Enjoying the best possible location in Lisbon, this modern boutique design hotel is born, like a phoenix, from the ancient structures of one of the most historic hotels in Portugal. The daring use of the colour Lilac in its façade, right on the traditional Rossio Square, denounce to the world the purposes of reinvention and exclusivity offered to a happy few.

Without a doubt the best hotel in all of Lisbon. The hotel is located right at the heart of Rossio in Baixa the main square in downtown Lisbon at the junction with Rua Augusta and within walking distance to all the main attractions including Praca Do Comercio and Elevador Santa Justa. The hotel is also within walking distance to important neighbouthoods such as Alfama and Bairro Alto the nightlife area of Lisbon.
The hotel itself is an architectural jewel with an Art Nouveau exterior and decorated balconies overlooking the main Rossio Square. The interior design of the hotel is even more intriguing as it conjures eccentric and alternative art with decorative design blended with modern architecture. Each floor has it own theme such as Zen on the second floor with statues of buddha and flavours of the far east.
There is an urban garden on the second floor where guests can unwind with a drink and a book and a loft on the top floor.
There is a restaurant on the first floor with sweeping views of the Rossio Square where guests can order a meal or enjoy a delicious cocktail while the sun sets on the exciting city of Lisbon.
My room and bathroom were spacious and the shower was fitted with a rainfall shower head. There was also a huge TV screen and there was complimentary coffee and tea with a minibar and room service.
What made my stay the most enjoyable and memorable were the reception staff of the hotel which made me feel right at home from the moment I arrived, They were more my friends than just hotel staff and made it feel like Lisbon was my home town. They were excellent in recommending day tours and activities to do in Lisbon and helped me in every other aspect possible in getting around the city or recommending places and restaurants to go to. They felt more like my own friends in Lisbon.
I would highly recommend staying here and would not think twice about returning as this truly was my home away from home.

As every review seems to mention the location is just fantastic if you wanna be at the heart of all things touristy. The Praca do comercio is a 5 min walk. Tuk tuks around aplenty and oh so many restaurants. I did find the room a wee bit on the small side but thats a very minor detail. The staff at the reception were friendly and very helpful, spoke excellent English. Theres a Vodafone a few mtrs away which was really helpful for a sim. our room had a pretty little balcony.

This is a great hotel when visiting Lisbon
Great location and easy walking distance to areas of interest
Rooms are large with huge beds and great bathroom with rainfall shower
Excellent buffet breakfast and can order pancakes, omelettes and eggs if required
Cava also available if that is your thing in the morning
Staff are very friendly and attentive especially in the dining room.
Recommend taking the train to Cascais for the day, its stunning and the beaches are superb. Who knew we would be able to have lunch in the sun in March.
We had a room overlooking the square so expect some noise
Overall a great experience 😎😎

There are pros and cons to every hotel and this one is no exception. The pros are the front desk staff, particularly Christina and Fabio, who were so helpful and friendly when I had a problem with my room. The hotel's location is another pro. Right by Rossio Square and Praça da Figueira, guests are best placed to catch trains, trams, buses, and the metro. Also, at my second room, I received a small unwrapped chocolate every afternoon. (This was not available during my stay in the interior room.)

The cons are significant, unfortunately, but some can be easily ameliorated. First, as you can see by the attached photo, room design is lacking. In my first room, an interior that looked out onto a wall (no courtyard), the desk was right below the TV and had a lamp that blocked part of the TV screen. The second room, an exterior with a view, has a step down into the bathroom. Both bathrooms have a high wall into the bathtub/shower and no non-slip surface, so I slipped and bruised my toe getting out. So, bring shower shoes or wear the provided slippers in the shower. Both rooms also have poorly placed electric plugs and no usb ports, silly in this day and age.

Second, housekeeping needs improvement. Worn, fraying linens were provided and the plugs and light switches had obviously not been cleaned in a while (see attached representative photo). I had to move rooms when in the middle of the night I awoke to the sound of the bathroom drains started making a loud noise (likely due to the flooding that was occurring outside). The second room I was given was an upgrade to an exterior (thanks to the wonderful service by Fabio and Christina). But I noticed that in both rooms, the housekeeping was lacking. So, when a different room on a different floor at a different price point has the same issue, I couldn't chalk the 1st room's issues up to an anomaly. I hope that this can be addressed by the hotel because a clean room is a safe and comfortable room.

Anyway, at this point, I would not tell people to avoid this hotel, but equally, I would say that it does not meet the standard of a typical 4-star hotel. It's a good 3-star hotel.

Horrible experience ! Hotel looks nothing like the pictures from outside and inside. Rooms are small, beds are short and your feet will not fit if you are 5’6 or taller. This is not a 4 star hotel, the service is non existent. We had 2 rooms for 2 adults and 2 kids (15&11), kids stayed in separate room. Rooms were on 1st floor. There was a constant sewage smell in the bathroom, more in our room than the kids. We asked them to fix it and they tried next day but it still smelled throughout our stayed when you flushed the toilet. The shower gel bottle pump was broken and we asked them several times to give us a new one and instead they gave us one without the pump as an open bottle. Breakfast was very limited in selection. The breakfast took place in a fish restaurant and it also smelled like fish in the evening and throughout the night. Finally, air conditioner broke in both rooms the last night and we had our windows open which was disturbing since it’s very busy area and gets very loud around 6:00 am. There was no one to fix it at night, we were lucky that it was not hot. Overall aside from the good location there was nothing good in this hotel and it deserves 1 star!

This was our first trip to Lisbon and the choice of hotels available to us for our short stay was extensive, however after reading the reviews from previous guests regarding the International Design Hotel we felt it was a good place to start.

Upon arrival, we were greeted by David at the check-in desk and what lovely, happy and friendly young man he was, he instantly made us feel welcome and explained that although our room was not ready, we could leave our bags at reception and he would put them in the room when available.

Everything about the hotel was fabulous, all the staff were polite and friendly, the bar and restaurant staff pleasantly going about their business with a smile on their faces.

The hotel was perfect for our needs and will return in the summer for a week long stay with our children.

We will happily return to the International Design Hotel if there is suitable availability for our next visit.

This hotel is in the heart of Lisbon with trams, buses, shopping, restaurants, coffee shops and buskers right on your doorstep. There are squares around every corner and when we visited were full with Christmas Market Stalls.
The hotel has a small foyer but the heart is the people. Sophia was a dream. So so helpful. From ensuring our bags were looked after whilst we went for a walk (we arrived early and the rooms weren't ready) to clearly showing us where to go to pick up trams, buses and the metro.
The rooms vary. Our friend were on the first floor and the room was pretty small. We were in room 304 which had a balcony and much more room. I would suggest you ask for a room with a view and the higher the floor I think gives you this.
Breakfast was brilliant. Nothing too much trouble. Hot bacon and scrambled eggs. You can order omelettes, fried and poached eggs which are then brought to your table. There are choices of yogurt, fresh fruit, donuts/pastries, hams, cheese, jams and their famous custard tarts. Tea, Coffee, Chocolate all available and fresh juices. If anyone complaints there is no enough choice they need to choose another hotel :-). The cost seems cheaper if you wait until you arrive at the hotel as it was 15 euros on line but 10 euros when we got there.
Everyone is friendly, but have I mentioned Sophia? She is friendly, helpful and smiley. Very professional and nothing is too much trouble. She will take you outside to explain directions and hale taxis when you want to return to the airport. All in all this is a great hotel and right where you need to be to visit this lovely city.

Sadly this hotel is not as good as it reads. The rooms are tired, the bathrooms need a good clean, mildew around, drainage and in the shower & the bath leaked. I booked for 6 nights, on check-in I was asked if I would like water in my room each day and it was replenished once. Coffee/tea was never replenished, as much as there was a coffee machine there was no milk. There is a restaurant attached but the food is not as nice as the menu and is quite expensive. The hotel position is good but bad for taxi pick-up/drop-off. The staff were “just ok” but their accounting practices I would say are dodgy. This hotel is expensive so I believe you could find better for the same cost.

We live in Portugal and we are fairly frequent visitors to Lisbon, but this was our first stay at the Internacional Design Hotel. The hotel is conveniently situated the Rossio Metro station, and we were greeted in a friendly manner on arrival. Being Buddhists, I hoped we would be accommodated on the Zen-themed floor – and, perhaps by chance, we were.

Our room was clean and neatly furnished, and I wish, frankly, that we could have that bathroom at home.

We enjoyed the complimentary Port welcome drink, but the main memory I have is of the wonderful breakfast bar – as good as any I have ever encountered, if not better. The view from the restaurant over the Praça do Rossio is great too.

I have discussed the issue with my better half, and agreed that we shall look to stay at this hotel again.

Check with the hotel. I would assume that it would be up to 17 or 18, but during our stay we only saw a family with an infant.
