After our original choice the Pensao one floor lower had a booking problem we were rebooked her. The owner was 'Basil Fawlty like and didn't want guests. There is a bidet and shower in the room but toilets are down a hallway. The rooms are shabby. It is fairly cheap.

Just loved staying here for 4 nights in Lisboa!! The best is the location.. in swankiest part of Lisboa in Chiado. Practically across from Baixa Chiado metro and as central as possible surrounded by upscale shops and charming cafes. But you must not mind climbing stairs as you are on 4th floor. Rooms have their own sink and bidet and... More

We stayed at this pensao one night because the pensao we originally booked had double booked our room. No bathrooms in rooms (down the hall), no breakfast, no fans, very small rooms, not very clean, uncomfortable beds, plus we felt seriously overcharged. In short, not fun for anyone who wants even minimal comfort. This is the kind of place we... More

The pension lay on the last and 4th floor (no elevator), with rooms with windows above the street and rooms without real windows looking at the building inside stair. We were above the street. Avoid saturday night there at all costs if u R not there to party. I m used to party noise and festival, this was close to... More

It´s like staying at your peculiar great uncle´s place -- the over-make-upped housekeeper adorned with bright costume jewelry, the slip of paper over the hallway telephone with portuguese phonetic pronunciation for English numbers (uon, tu, thri...), the mismatched antique furniture crammed into the room. It´s not the most gorgeous place I´ve stayed, but for the price -- and our room... More

We first spent a few nights at Pensao Royal just one floor down from Galicia. We had not booked in advance our last night in Portugal, and Royal was full. Royal's people suggested that we ask Galicia for a room, and they had many available even though it was mid-July and we we're asking for a room only some 5-7... More

The best accomadation I have ever stayed in. The Hostess Elizabeth is just the nicest person ever. The location is in the centre of Lisbon, the rooms are excellent and cleaned dailey, very safe area, wireless internet for free. Hinestly the perfect place to stay. Staying in Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores

Neighbourhood Profile
Baixa, Rossio & Restauradores
A pending candidate to become a World Heritage Site, Lisbon's downtown (the "Baixa Pombalina", or simply "Baixa") is a perfect example of anti-earthquake construction, having been rebuilt following the 1755 earthquake by the famous Marquês de Pombal (hence its name). Its offer is vast: restaurants and cafes in Rossio and Restauradores, outlets and shops in the Áurea, Augusta, Prata and other famous streets, the imponent Praça do Comércio and its Arch, the luxury shops along the Avenida da Liberdade, this is the beating heart of the city center. The Baixa also grants easy access to trains leading to Sintra, the trams that go around the Castle hill, old neighborhoods or even take you to Belém, and Lisbon's traditional restaurants and cafes. Considering a visit to the Fashion and Design Museum (free entrance) and don't forget to try the famous liquor, "ginjinha"!
