Memmo Alfama will definitely have a spot in our hearts forever. We were super sad to leave after 3 nights. The rooms are spacious, lovely furnished and you even get a welcome-pack with the best tips on what to do & visit. All of the staff were so lovely and smiled at you whenever they passed by. Location couldn't be...

This hotel is just so gorgeous ! It's an absolute gem tucked away in Alfama . It is well situated and you can easily jump on the iconic tram , with various stops just a short walk away from the hotel . The staff recommended fabulous restaurants for each evening of our stay however the room service at Memmo Alfama...

This hotel is in a great position to see Lisbon. So glad we chose to stay in Alfama, The Hotel is lovely, great breakfast and comfortable rooms. The bed was one of the best I have slept in. The only thing it was missing was tea and coffee making facilities in the room. There is an roof terrace with a...

This hotel is the perfect charming place for a romantic getaway in Alfama. It is very pleasant with an amazing staff and beautiful views of Lisbon. The location was a little hard to find as the entrance is down an alley off of R. Augusto Rosa, however Google maps will try and send you to the next alley over which...

A warm welcome. Great recommendations where to eat ( I.e. Avoid the tourist trail and wrote down ideas) and we enjoyed true Portuguese cuisine and warmth. A bijou room and it was very quiet. Wonderful power shower. The hotel is in the heart of the Old Town. Breakfast was excellent and also gins overlooking the River Tagus.

Very nice breakfast, nice small/cozy/efficient rooms. Very good location. Walking tour was worthwhile. Not the most competent staff but very willing to go the extra mile in a pinch. They saved our trip after our airport mishap! Lovely views. Would stay again.

We stayed at the Memmo Alfama Hotel on the final night of our visit to Portugal and enjoyed a very memorable stay. Wonderful greeting when we arrived and given a guided tour of the relatively new hotel which we were advised was a former bakery and two of the lounge areas are the original ovens. Room was well appointed and...

What a treat! We spent a long weekend in Lisbon at the beginning of February and stayed at Memmo Alfama. Everything about the hotel was just wonderful, from a very friendly and helpful staff, to an amazing terrace with a breathtaking view of the neighborhood and the sea, to a fantastic breakfast, finally to a perfect location. The Alfama neighborhood...

I can see that this hotel has a lot of good reviews and I would guess that is because the actual hotel is quite lovely from a distance (but the details are terrible). The views are nice, the location is pretty good and it has a nice rooftop bar and pool, however this hotel is the worst hotel i've ever...

Memo Alfama is tucked away down a side street with great views across the water, Alfama area and within easy walking distance of many key tourist sites. The hotel is a small boutique hotel having quirky seating areas and design. Very helpful staff who go out of their way to accommodate guest requirements. Rooms are on the small side but...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
