Stayed in the ground floor studio, completely self contained and ideal for a couple.anyone wishing to self cater might want to go for somewhere with a larger kitchen area, although for a quick breakfast, it was ideal. our hosts, the two Ricardos, were amazing in their efforts to make our stay as easy and comfortable as possible. This was a great...

Stayed in the ground floor 2 bedroom (double and twin) ground floor apartment. Spacious, clean and quiet. Beautiful garden terrace with lemon trees. Very quiet. Steep cobbled steps, don't stay here if mobility is an issue. Great location, close to castle, short walk into town and near a cheap supermarket. Our 2 boys loved it. Booked airport transfer with them...

The house is situated below the St Jorge castle with easy access to supermarket, restaurants, fado and Beautiful views over the city. Ten minutes walk to the river, Tejo. The apartment (bottom floor) was well functioning, well equipped with the staff eager to help you. DO NOT book a taxi transfer via the Tourist organisation. Let Portas Do Sol arrange...

Ricardo, who owns this apartment hotel, is terrific. He situates you and meets in a slightly difficult place on one of the old pedestrian ways. This is only reachable by steep steps, so be warned, which would be hard if you had heavy luggage. IT is remarkably quiet and has this wonderful private garden, immaculate. It is a remarkable little...

Back from a three night stay here in the 3bed apartment. We were a group of 5 friends and not one of us could find fault! It is located on a street of steps so not for the infirm . Its a two minute walk to the Castle which is well worth doing if only for the views! Some nice...

The apartment is situated in Alfama in the renovated building. There are restaurants, cafes and even grocery shops in the vicinity. But, pay attention to the fact that the building is located at the street which is composed of stairs, it means there is no access for cars. This is a bit of an inconvenience but when you see the...

We have just stayed in the top apartment in the house. I believe there are about 5 units. The location is great right in the old town under the castle. The building is situated down a pretty if rather graffiti marred alley – but saying that the graffiti is top quality and could be considered art!. Our apartment on the...

Staying in Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria

Neighbourhood Profile
Castelo, Alfama & Mouraria
Explore narrow streets and alleyways, small cafes and, of course, the internationally acclaimed Fado music. The earth-shattering Great Earthquake of 1755 destroyed most of the city but the contiguous neighborhoods of Mouraria, Castelo and Alfama remained standing to this day. These neighborhoods represent Lisbon at its historical best. The cool breeze of the Tagus river will take you up the hills to the sound of Fado, where you'll discover the best "tascas," eat delicious fresh fish and drink great wines. Discover hidden viewpoints and ancient traces of other civilizational ruins in the heart of the Portuguese capital. These are centuries-old neighborhoods that will welcome you to the very best of old Lisbon culture.
