Sintra Bliss House operates a few properties under their banner within walking distance from each other in Sintra. The one I stayed at was called Sintra Bliss A Part. Prior to my visit in June, I called ahead, and was told by the lady at the front desk that when I arrive in my rented car I should just "pull up and park in front of the office at Sintra Bliss House", and someone would accompany me to the accommodations at my property. Since they advertise free parking, it sounded reasonable. However, after I did this, when I got back to my car with their concierge, there was a parking ticket on the windshield. The manager was called, a short portly fellow named Goncalo. "No problem!' he told me. ""Give me the ticket, and we will take care of it!". I was impressed, and I figured that he would pay the ticket and the problem would be solved. 2 weeks later, after I arrived home, I followed up with an email, and Goncalo replied that he did not yet pay the ticket, but rather he asked the town of Sintra to cancel it. I was surprised to hear this, since in North America tickets typically aren't just cancelled upon request like that. "Don't worry!" Goncalo wrote, "I told you I will handle it!" Upon hearing that, I decided to just sit back and wait. A little over 3 months later I received an email from my car rental company that the town of Sintra sent them a notice for non-payment of the ticket on their car, and they were charging the 30 Euro fine to my credit card. I immediately phoned and also e-mailed Goncalo, who then became arrogant and defensive. "We waited to see if they would cancel it" he said. Then, after e-mailing him proof that the car rental company charged the 30 Euros to my credit card for this ticket, and after applying lots of pressure on Goncalo he then agreed to wire transfer 30 Euros to my bank account in Canada. There began a process of several days of Goncalo asking me piecemeal for my bank account information, the swift number of my bank, and my full name and address (which, obviously, he already had because I stayed at his hotel...lol) After a couple more days, the exact amount of 18 Euros (foreign exchanged to an odd amount in Canadian dollars and cents) appeared in my bank account, not 30 Euros. The description of the wire transfer on my bank statement read that exactly 18 euros and zero cents were transferred. I called my bank manager, who checked and assured me that no fees were deducted by my bank in Canada, and in fact if had there been any fees deducted, a Canadian bank would do so in Canadian dollars, not an exact amount of 12 Euros and zero cents. He explained that Goncalo's bank used a third party bank to transfer the money, and that this third party bank deducted the 12 dollar fee. After explaining all of this to Gancalo, and e-mailing him proof, he told me that he would not be sending me the short payment of 12 Euros, and that it wasn't his responsibility. The takeaway of this story is this, Bliss House has an amateurish poorly trained staff and a manager, Goncalo, who is obtuse and delusional. How they all got to be in the hospitality services industry, I do not know. So I am out 12 euros, spent a lot of time and energy dealing with this Goncalo fellow. What is most surprising is Goncalo has no awareness that his personality will in the end cost him a lot of business. This review now serves as a warning to anyone who wishes to place their vacation in the hands of Gancalo and his gang of amateurs.…
