Hotel's Favourite
Great overall hotel, well located (great restaurants and bars right next door), with great views, brilliant large suites, and service to match. We stayed at a sea view suite, got a Madeira traditional cake, chocolates and fruit when we got in. The only really less than ideal item was that the room service options after 10pm are heavily reduced, but nevertheless good enough. Happy to stay there again next time visiting Madeira

Me and my family had a wonderful stay at this hotel. The hotel staff were very welcoming and polite. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet was delicious and had a lot of options to choose from. The highlight of the breakfast was a freshly made omelet by Hari and his hospitality. I would highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Went with a friend in late October. Outdoor pool was a bit cold for me to swim in. No problem with getting a deck chair. Staff were pleasant and worked very high. Particular shout out to Dino who works in the bar by the pool. Rooms with side seaview can be noisy until 11 pm (think noise is from the bars on the slope to the side of the hotel). If you are booking taxi to and from the airport, booking a return journey with the hotel is cheaper than going by the meter.

We had to book last minute as my son had been taken ill and we needed to stay on the island for an additional two nights. Carla on reception was fantastic and could not have been more welcoming and helpful. The hotel was exceptional and made a difficult situation comfortable.

What a fantastic experience This hotel was perfect The wait staff were friendly, engaging and entertaining The front desk staff were above and beyond with assistance, from booking excursions, restaurants or taxis - they were wonderful The rooms were gorgeous We booked a one bedroom suite, which had an enormous wrapped balcony overlooking the ocean - the only complaint was the bed is quite firm, but many people like this. A small kitchen for drinks etc The spa and massages were 5* without exaggeration This has become one of our favourite hotels We will definitely be back We will definitely be back

Superb 5* hotel in a prominent sea front location in the lido area of Funchal Checking in was so smooth.Arrived on an early morning flight so arrived at the Melia just before lunch.Our room wasn't quite ready( which we expected) went for some lunch & when we returned our bags were in our superior sea view room awaiting us Nothing too much trouble for any of the staff.We stayed b&b & the breakfast were very good.Very well run restaurant by Mr Dinarte Used the facilities in the hotel on numerous occasions.Always a lounger available anytime of day & if you needed any help,Hugo the pool attendant was always there to help out.Also used the lovely indoor pool Our room had Superb views out to sea & all the pool & lido area The maid who tided our room daily was brilliant.Spoke good English & a very hard worker Many good restaurants in the locality which we used daily To sum our holiday up, it was brilliant.If you are looking for a good clean 5* hotel that won't break the bank,the Madeira Melia Mare is the one for you....Mr & Mrs Morton …

Amazing staff and property. Variety at breakfast including an omelet station. If you can get an ocean view room. Amazing views and amenities. Great restaurants across the street and along the promenade. 6-8 euro taxi ride into city center or take the bus. Highly recommend

A good deal to like about this hotel. Squeezed in a 5 night stay here using a avios free flight. I would describe the hotel as efficiently run for its guests, very personable staff and we received some lovely and unexpected complimentary snacks and treats to our Master Suite room. The suite was large and well presented with a very useful kitchenette , huge balcony including sun beds and table & chairs. Views over the sea from the pool and room were lovely. Lots of choice at breakfast mostly of good quality. Not sure if our stay coincided with an event but for first 3 days it was very busy and I could not support the “don’t worry about availability of sun beds” comments of other reviewers. We skipped back to our own balcony to overcome this. Staff work long hours and very hard and occasionally could not cope with demand resulting for example with a 30 minute wait for drinks in the pool side bar. I would definitely recommend to other guests however as there is so much to like here. …
