The hotel is located in a nice place, the staff were really doing their job well and with a welcoming smile, they were helpful, kind and always very busy attending to the quests needs. Thank you so much for making our stay so pleasant. The room was spotlessly clean and comfortable with extras like dressing gowns or a kettle. Surely, there was enough to eat, the food was fresh and tasty, no doubts here, and prosecco for breakfast was a nice touch, yet I would have expected a more ample buffet to choose from, and no empty serving dishes, which sometimes looked sad a bit. Am I that spoilt?
For all you need to know. Hotel is big and acomodates a lot of tourists, but if you come to MADEIRA to stay at hotel, by the pool.... You picked wrong trip. Madeira should be explored. No time to waste sitting in the room watching cable t.v. Overall conditions are more than satisfying. Staff always willing to help and smiling (eventho wearing masks, you can feel good vibes). I would like to highlight 2 staff members Lennine and Lucija working at the bar and restauraunt. Those guys know how to make your day or evening even better. Cheers and best of luck exploring this beautyful place!
With this hotel being a 5 star though it would have been better. Didn’t find the reception staff welcoming at all. Never spoke as you passed them. We just fancied a change As we have been in the Porto mare for 15 years. Well there is absolutely no comparison the Porto mare is an outstanding hotel with amazing staff. The pool area here was ok. Small but adequate bit tired as is all of this hotel. Breakfasts were ok. Room a bit like a canteen. Would I return. ? No!!
I am a big fan of the Melia group of hotels. It is clear they have strong management at the very top of the tree, which filters down to every Melia hotel I have stayed in. The Melia Mare was no exception. Whilst not super luxurious, it was certainly comfortable, ultra clean, and very much did the job for our stay. I also think it is exceptional value for money, helped by the discounts provided by the Melia Rewards scheme, which works very well for me as a Gold member. What really makes this hotel, and makes me sure to return, is the staff. All excellent to a man, and woman, and all go the extra yard with a smile. The ‘Can do’ attitude during our stay was very much appreciated. Examples being at breakfast when tables were quickly found and pushed together for our group of seven, the reception staff quickly and happily dealing with all requests, including reserving a bar table for watching the football, and the pool bar staff being chatty, friendly and efficient (as well as serving very good food). So another great stay at a Melia hotel, and thank you to all concerned there for making it so. You have a top team.…
I booked this hotel through Broadway travel to celebrate our wedding anniversary.A week before trip my friend and his wife decided to come with us and booked through Jet2.Our deal gave us an upgrade to a superior sea view and have to say the room was fantastic but my friend asked for an upgrade to be near us he had to pay 75 € per night for a room similar to ours but without a separate walk in shower which was the highlight of our room,I wouldn’t have paid it,way overpriced. Our room no 631 had that wonderful walk in power shower which was absolute bliss and also a bath + shower head, also lovely.Room had nearly all we needed, only thing missing was iron that you had to get from reception, lovely balcony and maids were very nice keeping everything tidy and clean. While we were there the hotel was not busy as neither was Funchal so I could see where there would be a problem with sun beds when place is full.Pool was freezing even though they say it is heated.I queried this and was told it was to stop covid spreading which is complete rubbish as the inside pool was warm.Hotel is never 5 star but I found the staff were very nice and polite except for the guy who done the omelettes who was a total misery and should look for a new job as he obviously hates that one.he should take a leaf out of a young lady Fatima who worked at pool bar as well as restaurant and was a joy to behold doing her job with a smile,Hotel was very clean, well manicured gardens and a lovely man with a Harris hawk going around at breakfast keeping the pigeons at bay.Breakfast is what brings the hotel down,it really is disastrous. The fruits, cereals etc.are lovely but the hot breakfast is terrible. The fried eggs are put out too many at a time, the beans are from one of those gallon tins with no taste as is the mushrooms. The bacon was ok but always cold like the eggs, the sausages were those mini hot dog things that are also tasteless, won’t even go into scrambled egg, horrible. One toaster that is older than me and porridge that to a Scotsman like me was shameful, have to say the coffee was ok.All in alll we had a lovely time as there is some excellent restaurants all close by and a nice stroll into Funchal where you can see the cruise ships in the harbour. One last thing, hotel did have entertainment but it was on too early, around 8_00pm when everyone was having dinner so there was no one in the bar to hear it.Also they advertise a 3 hour happy hour but doesn’t say what you get.…
