We have visited this hotel many times but normally opt for the superior rooms with balcony and partial sea view. However on this occasion we took advantage of a last minute cheap deal. Knowing the hotel as we do, we knew it would be well worth it. We were given a reasonable sized room in the old Quinta, with duel...

The good news. Brilliant staff. Interesting grounds. Good car parking. Now for the bad news. Enormous bedroom with many many loose floorboards (Room 4) Very dark, easily improved. Shower, not very well. Blankets Security to bedroom, pathetic. OK bits. Food could be more exciting Entrance hall, good but chairs difficult to doze in. Summary, over the past 30 or so...

Our 4th Christmas visit to this hotel. It ticks all the right boxes. Good location just out of town: well run: all the rooms are clean and tidy; good breakfast and 2 swimming pools. Good restaurants nearby. You can easily avoid the steep hill referred to by taking the lift down to the sister hotel and its a very flat...

We stayed at the Quinta Penha da Franca for the week before Christmas and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. It's close to the Marina and a short walk to the town. It has its own gardens and swimming pools with excellent views over the harbour. The rooms were clean and well kept. The food was very good and there was...

We really enjoyed staying here. It had a fantastic location, with some wonderful restaurants close by and only a fifteen minute walk right into the centre of Funchal. What we really liked is that it is so close to the centre of Funchal, so we went to restaurants there but it is also close to some of the bigger hotel...

The hotel is 15 minutes walk from the city centre up a rather steep hill. This worried me at first but there is a beautiful park on the way so you can take a nice detour and sit for a few minutes. The building itself is a beautiful old traditional house which is immaculately looked after, the attention to detail...

We spent a week in this traditional Madeiran hotel. It is a collection of low rise buildings including a quinta (villa) set in well kept gardens. It is very near the cruise ship port and the sea and within walking distance of the city centre. The staff are mostly charming (with the exception of one male receptionist who was disparaging...

Ours was a BA holiday but we contacted the hotel separately beforehand to get a higher floor garden view room. And good it was too: spacious, plenty of storage, double basins in the bathroom and comfy beds. It would have ranked very good if there was a light in the wardrobes (the dark wood and its position made identifying clothes...

The hotel has two sections, the original and a new section by the sea. The views are great and the gardens are nice. We stayed in the original section in a large suite with period decor. It needs some improvements, new beds, two singles just does not do for me, new mattress, improved bathroom would also help. The breakfast was...
