This was the most unexpensive place i found in center of the town. It's located on the 4Th floor of the building. They have elevator, and the reception is just a tiny room with no reception balcony. The room was very clean and quiet, the private WC also very clean, hot water and fresh towels every day. The Pensão is...

First impressions of the Pensao were negative - drab, dark and dingy - but I had a room at the rear with a tiny window overlooking a very dingy lightwell, with the smallest shower room imaginable Street facing rooms have a lovely bright sunny view. BUT bearing in mind the cost was less than 25€ a night it is amazing...

Set right in the heart of Funchal (my room overlooked the cathedral tower) and only a couple of minutes walk to the seafront. I was pleasantly surprised at the...

It helps to know what a Residencia is to understand what is on offer. Astoria seems to be an amalgamation of four large old flats on the top two floors of an old block. The original rooms have been split up, many with basic en-suite. The rooms are simply furnished. It could not be more central and for this you...

I stayed there for 2 nights. It's on the back of Se cathedral. Rooms are on the 3rd and 4th floor - there is a lift, but small and you need to get up a couple of stairs in order to get into it. Location is the best deal here - it's In the middle of downtown of Funchal. I...

Due to flights, it was £140 cheaper for us to fly out to Funchal a day earlier than our hoel accommodation started so I booked us into the Pensao Astoria for our extra night. We arrived early and the cleaner who did not speak any English happily shoed us to our room (which had only just been vacated) so we...
