Quinta da Casa Branca stands out for its festive atmosphere and well-kept rooms with garden access, especially its acclaimed Pool Villa. Guests have called out the property's cleanliness, with its immaculate gardens and pristine rooms, although a few minor improvements have been suggested. Service at the hotel is highly praised for the staff's professionalism and warmth, which significantly enhances the visitor experience.
While the rooms are recognized for their comfort and high standards, some guests suggest they could benefit from modern updates. The hotel's serene ambiance and lush gardens, alongside its comprehensive amenities, have earned rave reviews, despite occasional calls for refreshing certain areas. Its central yet peaceful location, close to the harbor and restaurants, makes it ideal for exploring the island, contributing to the hotel's reputation for providing good value.

Detailed Reviews
We spent a relaxing week in February at this lovely hotel. We had a superior room overlooking the gardens which was very well appointed and had everything you could possibly need. The room was spacious with a comfortable sitting area and a large bathroom with bath, walk in shower and double wash basins. There was a welcome gift of fresh fruit and the mini bar was restocked very day with complimentary soft drinks and water.
Breakfast was a feast with every thing you could wish for including a freshly cooked menu.
We spent a lot of time on the terrace outside our room relaxing in the sun and watching the Monarch butterflies. I enjoyed a late afternoon swim in the adult pool surrounded by banana trees. We also made use of the beautiful library, so quiet and peaceful.
This hotel is obviously managed extremely well and the staff are well trained. Nothing is too much trouble and every request is greeted with a smile. You are made to feel welcome and special.
We returned home refreshed and relaxed.

Quite simply one of the best hotels that I have ever stayed in. Situated in a former banana plantation and surrounded by lush tropical gardens. The former Leacock family home, now the Manor House, houses 5 suites and maintains an old world charm, whereas the more recently added garden and premium suites have classic but modern lines. All of the rooms are nicely situated with a pleasant outlook.
We were on a B&B basis, which gave us the option to try several of the plentiful local restaurants . The breakfast, served on the terrace was excellent with plenty of choice and the option of an evening meal in the Manor House, which is a set menu with optional wine pairing, is an absolute treat.
The town was within easy walking distance, about 10 minutes to the sea front and another 15 mins to the heart of the old town, which was well worth exploring.
What really turns this hotel from a great place to stay into an exceptional place is the quality of the team. From the reception, to the restaurant, the housekeepers and gardeners, every single colleague that we spoke to was charming, professional, helpful and friendly. I can't remember all of their names but special thanks to the staff members that we had the most interaction with, namely Carlos, Igor, Sonia, Humberto, Samantha, Robina, Christian, Andre, Joao, Andraia, Carolina - the fact that I can remember all of these names gives an indication of how welcome and special they made us feel. This hotel must have a fantastic training programme in order to turn out such a universally great standard from all of the team.
Worth hiring a car too as the rest of the island has stunning scenery and the lavada walks are a great way to see more of the interior. We also went to Porto Santo for a day, which was nice for a change but not much to see other than a nice sandy beach.
In summary, I can't recommend the Quinta da Casa Branca highly enough. You really need to go and see it for yourself!

We arrived at this beautiful hotel in June, 4 days before the island turned to Amber which meant that a lot of uk people had early flights home to beat the 10 days isolation, although hardly any COVID cases on the island.(crazy)
The hotel and the grounds are absolutely beautiful with all areas spotlessly clean, all employees of the hotel are very professional and always had a smile and a chat, a special thanks to Humberto who served us great cocktails almost every night at the bar and always had a chat talking about the island and special cocktails.
Everything about the breakfast was divine and plentiful although we didn’t make it every day( Lazy).
The hotel is perfectly located for so many local restaurants and bars, we didn’t dine in the Manor House but every one we spoke to raved about it.
We stayed in a garden room which are in the sun most of the morning up until mid afternoon but you can simply move the loungers onto the grass area.
The pool area is also spotless with comfortable sun loungers and waiter service by pressing a bell, always plenty of loungers available.
We met a lot of friendly couples on this holiday, Hi to Nick & Maggie, Maria & Matt, the Leeds and Belgium couple (sorry I couldn’t remember your names)
We will definitely return to this Hotel one day soon.
A special touch was all the reception staff who gave us a great wave off.
Thanks to all involved with the hotel for giving us a Fabulous holiday.

We had an amazing time at this hotel. The rooms were lovely, as were the facilities and the staff could not be more helpful and accommodating. The rooms and grounds (which are gorgeous) of the hotel are also very clean and there is hand sanitizer available by all communal doors at the hotel. The breakfast service was very well organised and there was a great selection available to order. The hotel is in a great location and is walkable into central Funchal - although it is quite hilly on the return back so you may want to take a taxi!
I would highly recommend the spa services here, which as well as being an incredible service, in my opinion, was great value in comparison for similar services in the UK. Also having dinner at the Manor House is a must, if you are vegetarian like us though is best to give them a heads up when you make your booking.
Overall I can’t really recommend this hotel enough. As our first trip post COVID, we felt safe here and well taken care of. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and it’s clear to see how hard everyone works to make sure it’s a great stay for their guests. After a challenging 18 months for all of us, it felt like we could truly relax and unwind for a while, and for that I couldn’t be more grateful.
Thanks Quinta da Casa Branca!

We returned last night having booked a last minute holiday with BA. This is a true 5 star hotel in every sense. From the modern reception area to the beautiful old Manor House and the stunning gardens everything shouts calm and class. We stayed in the Premier room (304) which was in the first floor. My hubby would have preferred a garden room because you could pull your sun bed on to the grass if you wished. Saying that, the Prem room was larger and we were both delighted with it. Breakfast was an event in itself. The service was really excellent, starting with the personalised menu, and continuing with the staff and food. Everything is beautifully presented and is plentiful. There are two pools, one of which is adults . We used the gym most days, it has a good selection of equipment (and it helped us come back only a few pounds heavier!). You are not far from a large number of restaurants and cafes. ONLY negative thing was that to get back to the hotel you had a serious, and I mean serious hill (not a problem, but if you have mobility issues then you may need to rely upon taxi’s). Definitely came back fitter than when we went. We walked into Funchal, It took us about 25 mins. It’s all downhill and no problem at all. Taxi back cost us about €6. We had a truly wonderful week and came back very refreshed and relaxed. Brief comment about cv19. Like many people we have our own concerns about cv19. The hotel, local bars, cafes and restaurants all take cv19 very seriously which is quite reassuring. Every member of staff was a credit to the hotel. We will be back as soon as we can!

The hotel is located in its own beautiful and very extensive grounds. These include trees and bushes from all around the world. The rooms are fine rather than extravagant but met our requirements.
The staff are all very friendly and helpful. From the housekeeping through to the reception, all the members of staff had smiles on their faces and were ready to be helpful.
The evening restaurant is a gourmet palace. The food was excellent, comparable with the best we have been to.
The location is convenient for the town, either a 20-minute walk or a quick taxi ride.
The only issue which probably needs an upgrade are the swimming pools. The main pool is adequate but probably does not compare with some other 5* hotels.

The hotel is located in a surprisingly peaceful location. It has roads all around it but once you go through the gates it morphs into an oasis of tranquility. The gardens are simply beautiful. Full of mature trees and plants with lots of colour. The pools are both heated to 25oC and were lovely - once you'd got it! And we did use the pools several times. Lots of sunbed towels are provided for use by the pool or on the loungers on our patio. The sun loungers on the patio were extremely handy. We went out for the first few days and then had some lazy days in the hotel. The patio sunbeds were perfect for relaxing after a days sightseeing and the other days we decamped to the pool areas. The breakfast was excellent though were were disappointed to have to make reservations. I think this is not so much about 'covid friendly' but to serve the hotel staffing and serving preferences. We could only get 08:15 reservations for our first two days and for the whole holiday we had to set an alarm clock so we didn't miss our slot. The room was well maintained and we didn't have any problems in that area. The only problem came because our room (6) was directly below the reception area and we could hear office chairs sliding on the floor, several 'clunky' floorboards as guest returned to their rooms and finally' dum dum dum' as guests descended the stairs which are adjacent to room 6. I simply mentioned it at reception and we were moved to a different room the next day. All in all we had a fantastic stay but my final comment is about the location at the top of a steep hill. We purchased a 7-day bus pass and that helped but it really is quite a pull up the hill - whichever way you approach. We had an amazing holiday and I'm really glad we tried this hotel. The staff were all super friendly and efficient. I would stay here again but I would have to choose carefully depending on what the deal is for this hotel and some of the others we have previoulsy stayed in in Funchal.

We had the most enjoyable, relaxing stay at this hotel in September 2020 (under COVID-19 controls). Every single member of staff we encountered was friendly, helpful, considerate and kind. Many of the other guests at the hotel at the same time were repeat visitors (8x, 13x, 23x), and I hope we'll someday be the same! I almost don't want to write this review in case QCB becomes too popular or expensive! We booked through BA on half board, which I recommend. There are plenty of restaurants in walking distance, but during COVID, for us, we just wanted the ease of staying put each night. The food was excellent if a bit heavy, so keep that in mind (and if you're vegan or no dairy/wheat - I can see it being challenging). Happy hour at the bar is also excellent and the Negroni QCB is personally recommended (lighter, fruitier, more summery than a standard Negroni). I had a massage with Joselle and was blissed out for days after. Both pools looked lovely, but we mostly enjoyed the Adults only pool. The grounds and room were absolutely lovely as well. One morning, we just sat on our balcony and read while watching butterflies in the garden. It isn't easy to see the sea from the hotel, but the gardens more than make up for this. It was our first time to Madeira, and we saw a lot of the other (big) hotels we had considered - frankly were so glad we stayed here. There are times when a large, showy hotel with rooftop decks make sense. I can't imagine staying anywhere else in Madeira.

This is a truly lovely hotel. The gardens are extensive, lush and manicured, there are two well designed swimming pools and the sun beds are the best ever with thick comfy cushions. The staff is first class. Everyone is friendly and helpful despite the COVID restrictions which make engaging with guests more challenging.
Our garden room, in the glass wing, was rather basic and its main attraction was a nice terrace overlooking the gardens with two excellent sun beds. The room itself felt rather bare and this impression wasn’t helped by the lights which were tragically dim. The room had too few sockets although a pop up extension Tower on the desk helped. The hairdryer in the bathroom wasn't very good and the only socket near a mirror was in the entrance hall with hardly any light. However, niggles aside, the bed was very comfortable and the room was quiet.
The bathrooms really do need updating for a hotel of this calibre. While the room itself was freshly painted, the extraction fan was useless and the shower over the bath was difficult to use (twice I ended up washing my hair unintentionally when the controls had been moved by the cleaner and I got a face full of water when I was trying to adjust them 😂). The shower screen is also too short so the bathroom floor got soaked when my whale of a husband showered. However the robes and towels felt like new.
Breakfast was excellent although a la carte due to COVID with three sittings at 7.30, 8.30 & 9.30am. Everything was delicious apart from the coffee, which I found a little bitter, but the fruit, breads and jams were varied and terrific and the cooked dishes excellent. The waiting staff were on point too.
There is a gym but the equipment is basic with just free weights and a multi gym as well as a few cardio machines but the hotel is within fairly easy walking distance of central Funchal. We had a car and the roads are fairly hair-raising with incredibly steep hills as soon as you leave the centre.

This is our 5th stay at the hotel and missing out last year we were excited to be returning for a relaxing two weeks . Unfortunately with deep regret we have to say that this hotel has let its standards slip and we cannot view this as a 5 star hotel . Unless you hadn’t visited prior to covid you would not realise the changes and I’m sure you wouldn’t have picked up any of the changes and still view this hotel as a 5 star .
Breakfast Buffett is no where near as good as previous years . The selection is limited , poor jams , poor and cold croissants , terribly bitter coffee, reduced size of fresh baked breakfast to name a few . On two occasions we didn’t have fresh towels in our room and I know the hotel will say we should have rang reception but we shouldn’t have too . The happy hour on an evening was previously but one get one free however this has beenreduced to a 25% discount which is a bit poor . Overall we have still enjoyed our holiday but have done so more away from the hotel . The overall demographic of the people visiting Maderia has changed over the last few years and as an older couple we feel that screaming children/ obnoxious 20 year olds and parents who think their children have the right to run wild on holiday is ruining not just a good hotel but the island as a whole . I don’t think we will visit the island for a long time in the future which is disappointing.

Dear Tripadvisor member, thank you for your enquiry.
We have air conditioning in all the rooms at Quinta da Casa Branca, the air conditioning in the Guest rooms are individually controlled and are available all year round.
With kind regards from Madeira, Quinta da Casa Branca.
Look for the supermarket Pingo Doce, which isn’t much further. It’s a much larger supermarket and therefore the prices and choice are so much better,
I am so sorry I simply dont know the answer to this as we neither had tea nor know whether it is available to guests only or anyone - or isnt served. I would either ring the hotel or check on their website. But it is a superb hotel - afternoon tea or not! Have a great stay.
