We had a wonderful 6 weeks here, although the rooms are in brown furniture which makes it look quite dated it is of good quality. The rooms are well presented and if you are short of anything it is very quickly dealt with. The staff are all very friendly, a special mention has to go to ARMONDO i hope i have spelt his name right. He is a credit to the hotel , He is charming funny friendly and a most welcoming front of house. The breakfast is a vast display of food enough to fill the largest of belly s. The breakfast staff are war and welcoming and do a fantastic job. The main pool guy who has a look of a young Ormundo is the hardest working pool guy i have ever seen. He too has a good sense of humor and is very helpful. The cleaners are very good and change the sheets on a regular basis. The pools gardens are well kept i could not find anything to say much in a negative way about our stay ,we met some lovely people here and will remember our time here fondly.

This locally owned hotel is a delight. Staff are professional and amiable . Rooms are great . Top tip if you like quiet ...ask for garden view room . Outside street view rooms ........though with a lovely sea view can generate alot of noise ............barking dogs (ofcourse it is Madeira) builders and tarmac guys (ofcourse it is Madeira). However watching the street life down below is fascinating . Indoor and outdoor pools are managed professionally - shout out to Miguel the pool guy and south London brought up .An absolute credit to the hotel as a natural people person . Mara the waitress , the barman and all concierge staff are great. It is quiet at the moment ....which I like but can imagine when things come back to a sense of normal this is a great family hotel for fun times and wonderful customer service. Get a great deal with Jet 2 or Mercury and you are in for some serious rest and relaxation here. Or book on Booking.com ..............could not believe the deal I got. Restaurants at the door step. Madeira shopping Forum just opposite. Big tip for UK mums/dads ..........wait and buy the kids sports kits at Lefties in Madeira Forum . Goodness you will save a fortune !!

This is our second visit to the Jardins d'Ajuda. We decided to return to the same hotel as we'd had such a good time there last year. We were allocated a lovely room looking onto the main street. I had written to the management prior to arrival to request a balcony on the main street as I love looking out at all of the beautiful Christmas decorations, and they had very kindly granted this request. We were on a bed and breakfast option. This is one of the only hotels I've been to who cater for coeliac sufferers like myself, without you having to ask them in advance. They have gluten free cereals and cakes, and a good selection of plant based 'milks' such as oat and soya. They have yoghurt, sausages, toast, beans, salad and many other options to suit everyone. The options change daily. Must say a special thanks to Susanna Jardin (the breakfast chef), who was always so cheery and friendly to everyone. Nothing was too much trouble to her. The rest of the waiting staff are also really attentive and that's what makes this hotel such a nice place to visit. Most days we used the indoor swimming pool, which is lovely. Ajuda is a great area to stay in as there are many good restaurants and shops nearby the hotel including the Forum Shopping Centre. We ate most days in the Pingo Doce supermarket in the basement of the centre, which does really good value meals at a fraction of the cost of most restaurants as the food is priced per kilo. There are many good cafeterias and snack bars in the centre, which are also good value. We like walking and walked the 3 kms into town and back most days, but you can get a bus pass if that's too far, and the buses are very frequent. In the other direction from town there is a stoney beach called 'Praia Formosa'. It takes around 15 minutes to walk there from the hotel, and there are 3 nice bars along the front where you can sit and look out at the ocean. If you continue along the sea front you will arrive at the tiny fishing village of Camara de Lobos. One of the things I love about Funchal is the abundance of public toilets, which are absolutely spotless. I think we will continue to visit Madeira around Christmas time as the Christmas light displays are fabulous and the atmosphere in the town is great. The Jardins d'Ajuda made Christmas Day very special with a beautiful breakfast and a drink of bubbly. Thanks, again, to Armando, the manager, and all the lovely staff from the cleaners and the reception who make this hotel such a great place to stay in.

80's decor in the rooms, good level of cleaning, hard beds and a sufficiently varied breakfast. The staff was friendly for the most part. When you go to this hotel, you get a three star hotel, covering basic needs. There is always room for improvement, for example in the variety of breakfast and the softness of the beds.

The hotel is huge. I was certainly a big reference a few years ago. It is in need of an update. The check in took almost one hour for a queue of three. The rooms are outdated but nice and clean. The hotel staff was extremely nice. The buffet breakfast is enormous but not that appealing.
