Well to me this was like a nicer travel lodge, clean and tidy, only thing was we stayed the night the fires broke out in funchal, and the smoke came through the air con unit which was not the hotel fault at all, was frightening and i even got up to check the hall way was not on fire. Good... More

I was travelling alone. This small hotel is friendly, clean, quiet, comfortable and I will be booking another stay here later this year. It may be disconcerting for some of you to see there is no big forecourt or fancy garden when you arrive - the hotel is on a small (steep) side-street. That said, I did not spend my... More

Stayed for one night only, waiting for our reservation at the nearby Pestana to kick in. Room was simple, clean and comfortable, but a sour smell of tobacco was included. Thankfully the balcony doors could be opened....... Good location, friendly reception, rotten breakfast (coffee was awful!). Cosy balcony. Fine for one night, but not more.

They say it to be 4 star hotel. Well, no, it is not. Breakfast is 3,5 stars, basicly room is 3 stars and bathroom is under 2 stars with boroken this and that, horrible smell, bad air-conditioning aso. Room itself is big but stupid with a long corridor. We happened to get the smallest possible balcony with space just enough... More

This hotel only has 18 rooms and is simply decorated and furnished but stylish. Rooms are a good size and beds comfortable. It is close to many good restaurants and the casino. It is conveniently located to walk to central Funchal and its attractions. it is also close to the sea and promenade. No steep hills to climb. Staff were... More

Very pleasant stay there in Sep 2015. Friendly and helpful reception staff. Crisply clean rooms, towels changed daily, comfortable firm beds, no tea/coffee making facilities (take your own kettle). Breakfast is toast, bread rolls, cake, slices of ham and cheese with tomatoes and cucumber, slices of fruit as you’d expect, coffee/tea and yoghurt. Eggs and bacon upon request. Overall very... Once again we have had a super holiday at Bright Star, since our last visit the hotel has had a bit of a makeover, thankfully the staff haven't, they're still the same great bunch we met previously. I cannot understand why some guests reported the hotel was noisy, it's one of the quietest places we've stayed in! Rooms are spotless,... More

We stayed a week in this hotel over the time of the flower festival and the location was brilliant as it was fairly near the town centre and yet in a quiet location. Surprised to see a review saying the area was noisy as it seemed very quiet and the rooms all overlook the pool area not the road outside.... More

Was very impressed with the modern hotel at such attractive prices. Have no complaints on the hotel itself. Rooms were good size, with balcony (but not the gretaest view as they look out across a carpark) The staff were super helpful. Problem is that it is a noisy area with traffic and the sound-proofing of the hotel is very poor.... More

Unexpectedly in Funchal for New year's Eve and needed a hotel. Modern, clean and generously proportioned rooms, comfy bed, included fridge. Good WiFi, and proper sized TV. Hotel very kindly gave a bottle of cava for the evening's celebrations too, which was a nice touch. Breakfast had good range of choice., Outside pool looked nice and all rooms appeared to... More
