The agriturismo MONTAGNA VERDE is located in Apella di Licciana Nardi (province of Massa), Lunigiana region, in the north of Tuscany, surrounded by the centuries-old chestnut trees of the Appennino Tosco-Emiliano National Park. The rooms are in an historic watchtower built in 1000 and renovated in 1995 by Mario Maffei. The attentive, painstaking renovation project led to the creation of colourful rooms (bedrooms, apartments, tasting room, honey workshop, restaurant) that combine the relaxed and characteristic atmosphere of historic buildings with the functionality and comfort of modern accommodation, to ensure guests experience all-round well-being.The tasting room and restaurant, with its zero-km menu (local product and slow food menu), are the ideal place to enjoy delicious, traditional Lunigiana cuisine . In the summer, guests can enjoy the pool-terrace (25 x 5 meters) with a view of the Apuan Alps, completely surrounded by the green landscape of the surrounding mountains. In autumn, the myriad of colours creates an impressive and memorable backdrop, and visitors can witness the metato in operation (every October this special wood oven is lit for the traditional drying of chestnuts), and breathes in the aroma of roasted chestnuts spreading through the village. The biopark and educational farm are perfect for those interested in finding out about the biodiversity of the area and to getting to know the farm’s animals, such as donkeys, sheep and cows, as well as the organic gardens where herbs for medicinal and culinary purposes are produced.

Great accommodation in small historical village. Excellent local food in restaurant. Close to Tuscan-Emilian National Apennine Park which is suitable for hiking. Access roads are narrow and twisty but it is part of experience to visit such lovely tranquil place.

On arrival you check in at a beautiful old clock tower which doubles as the restaurant and information centre for local national park. It is then a short, steep, uphill drive to the village of Apella where you stay in one of the rooms in the village. It is a short walk to a beautiful pool area and views are lovely. There is a little area back at the clock tower (a ten minute walk away) where you can view some of the animals and vegetables/herbs growing. The room itself was comfortable but very warm and there was no air conditioning. This meant you had to leave windows open at night (with mosquito net) and so heard every noise. Also could hear noise in room above, so sleep quality was not great here. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was plentiful with variety of meat/cheese, bread, fruit, yogurt and cakes. However the bread particularly was not very fresh - perhaps sitting out too long? We were a little disappointed with the local hiking trails, they were obviously once very good, but now overgrown and poorly marked. However, we still enjoyed beautiful hikes and views. There are interesting villages nearby but roads are small and winding and suitable for confident drivers only! The restaurant was also very good and extremely reasonably priced - I will discuss it further in a separate review.

Fabulous location , although very remote, immaculately clean, owners very helpful and meals at the restaurant very good, service a bit in consistent but this would not deter our return to dine, nothing was too much trouble. My only real negative would be kitchen facilities were minimal and shared terrace is quite a small area ,however there are ones with private terraces too, the location though incredible as is the story to this agriturismo

Far out and up in the mountains you will find this great restaurant. The restaurant has a beautiful view, serves fantastic food and gives good service. It is great value for the money. Will highly recommend the place even though it is far up in the mountains, and you have to be rather attentive to drive up here.

Tried to book in here. After several phone calls and emails I gave up. Initially they told me they were waiting on confirmation of another booking on the same dates, so i waited and waited. They never bothered to reply! I,m sure its a beautiful place and the restaurant is excellent as I know having eaten there before. All I can say is they that must be so complacent that they can afford to be rude to potential guests!

The two idyllic nights spent at Montagne Verde was one of many highlights of our recent trip to Tuscany. We stayed in a room in the picture-perfect village, which had a shared balcony with breath-taking views over the balcony. The drive up on the steep, winding roads was a little hairy, but it was absolutely worth it. Unfortunately, the weather meant that we were unable to use the outdoor swimming pool, but this also looked beautiful. The best thing about our stay though, was the fantastic food in the restaurant, where we ate both nights. I'm still daydreaming about the balsamic onions and the chestnut ravioli! Do be warned though, the restaurant is a 20 minute walk from the village (entirely uphill on the way back) with no lighting so, if you intend to walk, take a torch! We didn't but fortunately Mario (the owner) was in the restaurant when we were about to leave so he very kindly lent us one.

Montagna Verde was an incredible experience for us. The area is beautiful, off the beaten path so to speak, so it was not crowded, at least when we were there. We stayed in the village and had a little apartment. It was clean and comfortable - the village is quite old and in great condition. We ate twice at the restaurant which was AMAZING! The food was incredible - so fresh and unique, we absolutely loved it. For anyone interested in a non-tourist, unique experience, this is it. Highly recommended!

A lovely, friendly place to stay with a well kept pool. The restaurant continues to provide a high standard of tasty, wholesome food with plenty of variety at dinner. Service is efficient, friendly and without fuss. Accommodation is in a restored medieval little borgo. The location is superb. A great mountain stay and close to the wonderful coastline by car.

We were touring with the motorcycle to meet with some friends who were staying at a place nearby. It is the perfect place for anyone who loves and appreciates the beauty of nature. No complaints about the room, everything as expected. We were pleasantly surprised with the large variety of delicious food on the menu. The only thing is that the restaurant was about half a kilometre away from the sleeping quarters, so unless you like to walk after dinner, use some means of transportation to go to the restaurant.
