Only good thing about this hotel are three lovely hotel dogs. These three dogs are only welcoming beings in this establishment. Sorry to say, but reception staff in this hotel was the rudest we ever came across in our entire life. I would give this hotel a zero if I could. We booked this hotel based on positive reviews and the way it looks, of course. When we tried to check in, at first no one was there, then after a few minutes a lady appeared, she didn’t greet us, or show us even with a simple smile that we are welcomed. She asked us what is our room number- how we are suppose to know that, we were checking in. During the whole process, she behaved like we are her arch enemies. We felt so unwelcome and so uncomfortable. This was our first time in Bequia, and first contact with any establishment there, which obviously wasn’t a good start. Her male colleague, who was supposed to take us to the room, didn’t even offer help with the bags, we didn’t need one- but it’s a basic thing that absolutely everyone offers on your way to the room, he just had a quick look at our bags and obviously decided that there is no need to offer a basic customer service which applies in every hotel. He didn’t greet us either. The room was nice with a few hiccups. Unfortunately shower without a curtain didn’t offer any privacy, absolutely everyone passing buy could see inside the shower given the room is on the ground floor. Little window on the front door was absolutely unnecessary, again anyone could check and see if you are in the room. No mini fridge or at least bottle of water was left in the room. Kettle was rusty and full of water from the previous guests. The noise coming from some kind of a pump or whatever it is in the back of the hotel was constantly present. Bathroom window was impossible to close. Outside lights are switched off early and without torch is a pitch dark, which is not the safest option given that everyone could pass by rooms- by car or on the foot, given that hotel is not on the private road or doesn’t provide any sort of a seclusion. The front door was weak, and was constantly banging due the wind outside- which hotel could easily fix if they want to. Blinds in one part of the room were dark, but the ones on the balcony door were light so in the morning the whole room was bright - something to note if you want to sleep longer, because at the moment that’s not really possible. Beside that, be ready to be woken up early by the noise from the outside- passing cars, taxis picking up other guests, shouting etc. Note that right next to the room is some kind of a staff storage, be prepared to hear them early in the morning opening and closing the storage and banging the door, completely oblivious that someone is staying next door. In every hotel staff will clean your room only if you ask for it( or place the sign on the door handle to do so), but not in the Firefly Bequia. Basically on our second day, we came back to the room to find that room was done and all our stuff was scattered everywhere that we had to look where maid place them. Also the thought that someone was in your room without your permission is not what do you expect on holiday. Maid even managed to forget a messy bag with cleaning products on our table after cleaning the room. Again, thankfully we stayed only two nights, or should I say practically sleepless nights, otherwise we would definitely leave and go somewhere else. On our second and last night, we were so naive to try their restaurant.I guess we were looking for a tiny bit of something which could possibly fix this disastrous experience. Only one table was occupied and the same disinterested male member of the staff ( same one I’ve mentioned at the beginning) was at the bar. He completely ignored us, and kept looking at his phone. Eventually I had to go and ask him for the menu, he handled me wine menu without any word, when I asked him if they have cocktail menu, he said NO, which was shocking given that advert for their cocktails was literally above his head.He clearly didn’t want to make any cocktail. We waited for the food for more then an hour, the food came cold, undercooked and poorly presented in tiniest portions ever. With all this happening we felt like we are in some sort of a twilight zone. Again, we never ever experienced anything similar in our life. How one could treat paying guests in this manner?! We couldn’t wait to leave Firefly Bequia. Check out was the same as the check in. No one was there, so we had to look for staff to check us out. When lady ( same one who checked us in) appeared, she ignored our “Hello”, she just took the keys and left?!?! I don’t know how this hotel have so many positive reviews? What is positive in this unfriendly and rude behaviour?!?The whole experience was totally unacceptable.Did we pay and chose this hotel to be treated like a rubbish? Quite frankly, the rubbish is treated better. One would think, especially now, after Covid, that tourists will be welcomed and treated as they should, that someone in hospitality business would go above and beyond, but that wasn’t the case here. Do yourself a favour and spend your money somewhere else.…
We just had our 3rd night of dining and all 3 dinners were a 5/5 . The staff so welcoming . The meal was as delicious as it looked ! Loved meeting the lovely chef . It will always be our GO TO when in Bequia.
It is with exceptional gratitude for Liz, the owner of Firefly in Bequia that I write this. Liz’s kindness, compassion and connections were instrumental in helping me rescue a stray Bequia dog and return with her to the US. Covid-19 has brought on challenges at every level and especially for businesses depending on tourism. It is however this approach to community from businesses that has kept me returning to Bequia for many years. Thank you Liz. I will be sure to seek you out when I return.
If you are looking at somewhere truly relaxing and appreciate attention to detail then this is going to be the place on stunning Bequia ! The staff here are so friendly and eager to ensure you have a great stay. We preferred to be out of the hustle & bustle of the busy port - whilst still within easy access of it. If you are paradise seekers, rather than mere holiday makers, then look no further ! The minute you arrive it feels like an oasis of calm. I practice yoga and this place is perfect ! The rooms are very spacious with equally spacious verandahs - just the place for a cocktail (or two) at sundown ! The standard of food was excellent and housekeeping of a high standard. Whilst the nearest beach is a short ride away, the few times we ventured there we found it could be quite crowded at times, so we much preferred the tranquility of whiling the hours away, beside the beautiful pool on this stunning plantation. If you are thinking about Bequia - don't expect Barbados ....its a much more beautiful and low key Caribbean island than its noisy neighbour and surprisingly straight forward (or so we found) to get to . Its also an excellent base from which to explore the other islands of Grenadines. Firefly offers the perfect place to really soak up the true Caribbean vibe of this chain of beautiful islands. As soon as we can get back to Bequia, we will be back to Firefly !…
We stayed at the Firefly while friends stayed on their boat in the harbor and other friends stayed at the Bequia Beach Hotel. The Firefly is beautiful, has great rooms, wonderful staff and good food. It is also a $20 taxi ride (each way) into town/harbor. So, if you are looking to stay at the resort for a romantic getaway, it's great. If you want to go to other restaurants and bars, it's a bit of a trek.
From the moment you walk into the lovely open designed hotel you know you are in paradise. You are warmly greeted by Collin and Donavan who offer you a welcome drink as you sit back, relax and comfortably gaze out over the pool to the beautiful plantation. They handle your luggage as you are shown to your beautiful spacious room. There are stairs to climb but we did not find this a problem. The rooms are very large with a huge furnished veranda. The view is amazing of the plantation, hundreds of coconut palms lining the blue waters of Spring Bay and a warm tropical breeze. We stayed in an upper level suite with high vaulted ceilings, a very lush king size bed with mosquito netting, walk in closet with mini bar, huge two person shower opening to the veranda, two pedestal sinks and comfortable lounge chairs. The menu at the restaurant was not large but the food and service was excellent. We prefer this part of the island, about a mile or less from Port Elizabeth. It is more secluded and the way the island has been for years. We explored and enjoyed the entire island including other hotels and found Firefly to be our perfect home base. The entire staff was exceptional and make you feel right at home. We will definitely be back for another stay.…
A beautiful resort with great views. The rooms were large with several doors to a wonderful deck. The grounds and plantation were well kept. The restaurant had good food but a somewhat limited menu. The staff was very friendly, Colin, Melissa and Donovan showed us daily that they cared about our experience there. All and all everyone we met on the island were friendly, we would definitely return.
We have stayed here before. This visit was as fantastic as the first. We loved our room which had a fantastic view of the pool and sea. We love coming here and look forward to coming back next year !! Thankyou Firefly.
We stayed here before and loved it and this time didnt disappoint either. Rodney and the team were consistently friendly and on point if we needed anything. We didnt have dinner this time as we wanted to see more of the island (which is a secret im hesitant to share, Bequia is a beautiful, laid back and welcoming island) but breakfast was excellent each morning. We look forward to returning.
We enjoyed our visit to this lovely place so much! If you eat lunch there, you are permitted to enjoy the lovely pool and grounds also. Lunch was delicious! We had the goat and chicken roti, which was very filling and came with a side salad. The tour with Ezra was really fun. He did an excellent job of showing us all of the plants, fruit trees and herbs that grow on the plantation and explained how they are used on the island. This is right down the road from the turtle farm, so you can easily do both in one afternoon.
