It was only after I had booked two nights in Chic Hotel that I read all the comments about the neighbourhood being dangerous etc. But really, what's all the fuss about? We arrived after midnight and walked from Syntagma Sq. to the hotel. We didn't have any problems whatsoever and I never felt unsafe. There are quite a few homeless...

Before we came here we read about the hotel. I've seen alot of reviews stating that the area is unsafe and that you can only access it if you're beeing dropped of at the entrance, in my eyes this is not true. During daytime you can easily walk to Omonia square without beeing afraid. Yes, there's some strange people on...

I will start with the nice points. This hotel is clean and the staff are very friendly. The bad points, this hotel is in the worst, most dangerous place I have ever seen. Our taxi driver didn't want stop at this hotel because behind it is the most dangerous street in Athens. He drove around the block, before our car...

The hotel profiles itself as chic and hi-tech - both of which were probably true when it was renovated some years ago. Nowadays it is not quite ready for another renovation, but the presumptuous labels underscores that it has seen more ambitious days. The hotel was clean, welcoming and well-functioning. We saw few other guests, which is probably why the...

The area is run down and a bit risky closely in the night. The positive is that you can go by taxi right in the main door late at night if needed. I will definitely visit again and highly suggest. I stayed for 3 nights and I am very satisfied. The hotel it's near to metro station "OMONIA" as also...

Our hearts sank as we arrived at this hotel. The area is really shabby and run down, Athens has a lot of graffiti generally, some of which is quite cool but it looked scruffy and very tired in this area. The hotel is small and dark, and our room overlooked the main road which is very noisy at all hours...

The hotel is ok in terms of cleanliness, helpful staff and average breakfast. However, rooms are small and hotel is located in omonia which is not recommended in terms of safety. You can find a better 4 stars hotel in a nicer area.

I booked a minimum of a 4 star hotel in South Africa. I specified aircon, wifi and a full English breakfast.. This is a renovated brothel that used to be booked out by the hour Hence the shocking location. The rooms were clean basic and airconditioned. If I were travelling by myself as a female I would have been too frightened to...

Staying in Omonia

Neighbourhood Profile
Omonia Square is as plain in appearance as Syntagma is grand. Surrounded largely by functional blocks from the 1950s and 60s and no longer boasting its underground stalls, the square is now mostly frequented by immigrants and bargain shoppers. The most rewarding area to explore is to the south. Set off down Athinas Street, with the Acropolis gradually coming into focus in the distance, and you will get a sense of old commercial Athens, especially at the picturesque meat, fish and vegetable markets some way beyond the City Hall. The blocks to the west of Athinas are home to many Chinese and South Asian traders, adding a multicultural atmosphere to what was until the late 1990s a very homogenous society.
