We were a group of six people, one of them being a toddler, going to the capital city of Greece where at least 1/3 of the Greek population lives. And wanting to see what all other tourists want to see, we were worried about accessibility and distances. And honestly, we were hoping to stay in the Plaka. The number of...

Over the course of the last ten years, we would visit Athens from the coastal villages of the Pelopponese, usually to see a concert or ten , or just to appreciate the splendours of that lovely Capitol. Our koumbaros ( best man) being in the tourist business, recommended The Acropolis View hotel, omg, how bang on right he was.Access, by...

Acropolis View offers good value for money in a likeable area of Athens. During my first visit to Athens I stayed in the heart of the Plaka district. AVH is perhaps a ten min walk to the Acropolis Museum in a much quieter neighbourhoood, but as a result it offers far better value for money. Don't miss the rooftop views...

I returned to this hotel, after having stayed there in 2008, as well. The hotel's exterior is unimpressive, as is the street it's on - but the lobby, dining area are nice. The rooms are spartan, but clean. The charm of this hotel is it's proximity to the Acropolis (a block away!!) and the fantastic rooftop deck, which looks onto...

The hotel is very conveniently placed, about 3 minutes walk from the base of the Acropolis site, and maybe 10 minutes walk to the Plaka and 15 mins to Syntagma Square. After travelling all day we decided to get a taxi which cost 40 euro (standard price from airport to central Athens), but there is bus X95 which will take...

Convenient location to the main tourist attractions for the new acropolis museum and the acropolis. Close to the metro about a 10 minute walk to easily get to and from the airport and other areas of the city either by metro or foot. Very simple rooms but, clean. Good breakfast to start your day.

Perfect location for a short visit. Extremely professional staff, gorgeous views over to Acropolis. Rooms are tiny, but spotless. Breakfast is ok, AC was a bit complicated for us. Anyway we managed very well despite of 40 degrees.. Area of Koukaki is peaceful.

Reaching the hotel was painless; the sat-nav took us straight from the airport to the hotel which was astoundingly close to the Acropolis. As they say, they have a rooftop terrace where you can sit, have a drink and gaze at the Parthenon - except when we were there in early May it proved a little too chilly and windy...

We were pleasantly surprised when we stayed here. For the price we expected a lot less. The room was nice everything you need with an amazing view. The staff were particularly amazing, so helpful and really went out of their way to help. I even left my book in the room and they sent it to my next hotel free...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
