We try to stay at the Hera on our visits to Athens, and are never disappointed. The room is quiet, a balcony with chairs is provided, the air conditioning is self-controlled and quiet, and breakfast is included. The staff is always professional and friendly. If you have any questions, they speak flawless English. You can't beat the location for the Acropolis Museum as it is a short block walk to the entrance, and there are tavernas nearby if you don't want to eat at the hotel restaurant. You are in a neighborhood area instead of touristy Plaka, so you will see locals at the tavernas, and many very good restaurants clustered together a short walk toward the Fix Metro. Breakfast is very good with something for everyone, and the breakfast room is charming. Our room was clean and comfortable with cool sheets and comfortable pillows. The bathroom is all black marble. A couple of things to note in the bathroom: the tub wall is really high, so if you have mobility issues, you should ask if they have rooms with walk-in showers. Also, something we noticed in many hotels on our tour of Greece this time, hotels are not necessarily providing bar soap. We used shower gel to wash our hands, and housekeeping could easily see that is what we were doing, but no bar soap appeared. The room provided plenty of storage for hanging clothes. We had an excellent stay and look forward to returning soon.

I stayed here from Aug 3-12, 2021. The location is great, next to the Acropolis Museum and a short walk from the south entrance to the Acropolis (the entrance I would recommend). You can also walk to Syntagma Square and the Panathenaic Stadium (site of the first modern Olympics), a little further away but still walking distance. Tons of restaurants and shops nearby, as well as the Athens General Medical Center (a small clinic a couple blocks away) for those needing COVID tests to return to their country. The view of the Acropolis from the rooftop restaurant is unmatched.

Staff are very attentive and always willing to help with getting taxis or offering helpful information about the city. Food is good at the rooftop restaurant and provides great views. Buffet breakfast was provided in a dining room off the main lobby. Laundry service is provided but expensive (there is a laundromat nearby as an alternative). Room was small (I was in their least expensive room) but comfortable. There is a refrigerator in the room. Overall a good experience and I would stay there again.

We stayed at this hotel 10 years ago, loved it, so decided to stay there again this time for 2 nights. We weren't disappointed, everything was as good as we remembered.

We found the service to be very good. Questions were answered in a professional, polite and helpful manner. We were tired the first night so had room service dinner from the hotel restaurant. The food was delivered by a very friendly young man and the food was very good.

The room had lots of light (important to me), was quiet, and the bed was comfortable. The shower was great as was the A/C.

The buffet breakfast is held in a beautifully decorated room and the food is varied and plentiful. Even if you pay extra for it, their buffet breakfast is definitely worth any extra cost.

The area is walkable to different restaurants (we went to God's Restaurant, having good memories of it 10 years ago) and easy to walk to the Acropolis and Museum.

We had 3 roms here last week. Our quoted price was 95 euros per rooms per night. When we arrived the front desk manager said the rooms were 112 a night. I showed him my reservation and he said, You Americans, that is for one person, its different in Greece, we charged for each person. I continued to question him and he finally said our room included free breakfast and that's why it is more which seemed fair and we agreed to pay the higher price. The next morning we went to breakfast where they charged us 15 euros each - we complaned but the front desk manager, Demetrius, claimed he never said breakfast was free. Be very careful, this hotel takes advantage of Americans, we ended up paying 120 euros more than quoted and the rooms were small and ours overlooked a trash dump. The only good thing about this hotel is the location.

Response from Iro Chatzilia, Γενικός Διευθυντής at Hera Hotel
Responded 30 Sept 2021
Dear Terry, Thank you for staying with us. I am sorry to read that you misunderstood the hotel’s policy regarding the room rates. It is custom on the majority of the hotels all over the world to have single and double occupancy rates. However, I am really surprised with your comments and it is very unexpected to read a review were facts have been distorted, as far as the hotel’s rating policy is concerned and moreover, specifically regarding the conversation that you claim to have had with our Front Desk Agents. Our staff’s professionalism has been proven repeatedly during all past 17 years that Hera Hotel is operating and we have always behaved respectfully to all our guests, including American citizens of course, that are the majority of our guests over time and have been praising our hospitality and excellent services. As checked, all 3 rooms reserved for your party were for single occupancy. However, upon your arrival, you were 6 persons, instead of 3. Moreover, you had selected the Room Only rate plan, that does not include breakfast. As checked, we offered the best available rate for the difference from single to double occupancy, which was 13,89 euro in total, per room, without breakfast. Our Front Office Manager, Dimitris, as well as our Front Office Agent, Kostas, had thoroughly explained the rate differences and the extra charges, that were clearly stated in our website as well, confirming that the extra 13,89 euro per room were only room service charges for the extra adult per room. Should you wish to add breakfast to your reservation, the extra cost would be higher, and you had selected not to add it to your reservation. The extra charge of 15 euro per person, would have been if you used our Breakfast option, which you didn’t, therefore you were not charged. Consequently, in my point of view, what you suggest regarding our rating policy as well as our response to our guests’ requests and inquiries is not true and unfair, since the extra cost of the breakfast was never charged and we did not proceed with any hidden or unjustified charges that have not been thoroughly explained in advance. I hope that I have clarified this misunderstanding and I would like to thank you for taking the time and such effort to share your feedback regarding the extra charges of 13,89 euro per room, per day that have been applied to your initial bookings, giving us the chance to reply and explain the situation from our side too. At your disposal,

We paid extra for the Junior Suite with the Acropolis view, and it was great. We only spent one night at the Hera Hotel, but found the room comfortable and large enough with a large balcony to enjoy the view. We initially planned to have our teen sleep in the sofa bed and it would have been tight with 3 in the room, but doable. Instead we booked a small regular room for 2 teens, and they even had a small balcony (without a view). The breakfast is worth including in your room, plenty of food and a great start to a full day of sightseeing. COVID precautions are in place, and we enjoyed our stay.

Think of the Hera as a large boutique European hotel with appropriately small rooms and tiny lift, but comfortable and protocol compliant. Our reception experience was friendly and helpful.
The top floor restaurant's dinner menu is, of course, limited in selections but offering tasty options. Make reservations for a table with the Acropolis view! Mixologist Nilson Bit is one of the best! Try his Aperol Spritz for an apéritif and/or a Limoncello for a digestif. Strike up a conversation with Nilson to enjoy his dry sense of humor. Nice breakfast buffet on entry level and made-to-order omelets, etc. are available.
The Hera location is ideal for the active visitor (for pleasure or business) with most must-see landmarks within walking distance. Just a few blocks from the Acropolis Museum, the hotel is on a street with a buzz and not far from neighborhoods worth experiencing. Oh yes, make dinner reservations one night at Balcony restaurant (touted by locals) just one block away and request a table on the balcony (lap blankets and heaters if needed. "Yamas!"

So stayed in the Hera with two teenagers. It’s an older city centre hotel so the rooms are quite small but you aren’t going to get enormous rooms in the middle of a city. The kids beds were pushed together when we arrived so we just separated them as daughter didn’t want to sleep right next to her brother. Wasn’t a problem to sort out. The bathrooms are small and it’s a shower over a bath job. Husband 6ft 5 so always finds that arrangement slightly challenging but everywhere was clean and housekeeping seemed to come in like secret ninjas to make beds and change towels. The location is brilliant. Literally down the road from the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum and everything was very much on our doorstep. Great cafes further up the street too so no shortage of places to eat etc. breakfast was ok. Not the glorious spread that other reviews lead us to believe but that said, they had loads on offer and you can separately order some egg dishes to feed growing teenagers. The view from the rooftop was amazing. Literally my only complaint was that one of the female members of bar staff got our order wrong one night and then seemed to have a mini grudge against us for the remainder of our stay and trying to get served by her was more or less impossible. I will say this was only one member of staff and the rest were absolutely lovely

We were in Athens for 2 nights after a cruise, and chose the Hera because of its location and reviews. It did not disappoint!
The hotel made arrangements for the 12 of us to be picked up from the port in 2 vans. Upon our early arrival, our luggage was stored while we went off for the day on a city tour.
We checked into our well appointed rooms after our long day touring, and we’re happy to find that the A/C was in full gear and the view of the Acropolis from the balcony was lovely.
The staff were very helpful and the rooftop restaurant was small but offered an outstanding view and wonderful menu. The breakfast was held in a room down stairs and was more than we could ask for.
The hotel is located in a perfect location for touring, shopping and dining…all just a block or two away.
The only con is the tub/shower- it is very high to climb into, especially for someone with short legs or physically challenged.
We would definitely recommend the Hera.

We spent 4 nights at this hotel and it did not disappoint. We chose a suite on the top floor and we are very glad that we did as it was basically the size of a deluxe double room, though as the measurements were provided, we should have been aware of this. However, the plus point was the generously sized balcony. The hotel was well maintained and provided an excellent choice at breakfast. All the staff were very friendly and spoke English and those on the reception desk were particularly helpful in advising on sites and making restaurant bookings.

This is a hidden gem of a hotel! We initially selected it because of its proximity to the Acropolis, the new Acropolis museum (2 blocks), and the old town or Plaka for dining and shopping. We were not disappointed. We are older adults and can’t walk long distances. The location was perfect!! The restaurant on the top floor has a stunning view of the Acropolis and Parthenon as well as delicious and reasonably priced food! In the morning they serve a full and delicious breakfast downstairs. The real gem of this little hotel is Dimitri and the staff!!!! Unbelievably accommodating and kind!! They arranged our transfers through Welcome Pickups and arranged two private side tours for us. I just can’t say enough good things about this little hotel including a very fair nightly rate. The room was small but nice and marble bathroom with shower looked as if it had been recently renovated. The only caution I would give is that our room overlooked the street and was noisy late into the night. We were there the last 3 days of November, it was quite warm that week and the air conditioning had already been turned off so we opened the door to the balcony to get cool air in the night. We were so tired the noise didn’t bother us but if you have trouble sleeping if it’s noisy, you should request a quieter location.
