The room is average size, but well decorated, nice cozy bed and amazing marble bathroom. Service and politeness at the lobby is improvable. breakfast is average at best, poor and low quality selection of food.

Very conveniently located in the heart of Athens. Within walking distance from lots of shops, restaurant, Metro Station etc. Very close to attractions such as temple of Zeus, the Acropolis museum etc. The restaurant in the hotel offers a nice view of the Acropolis hill, especially stunning at night. Don't miss it. The rooms were very nice, clean sheets and... More

Hera Hotel is located centrally in Athens in the neighborhood surrounding the Acropolis and in close proximity to many other historical places of interest. There are fabulous restaurants within minutes of the hotel as well as convenience stores, pharmacies, kiosks for newspapers, ATMs, and other everyday needs, Metro stops, bus stops, and quiet! The staff speak English very well as well... More

We four ladies had a pleasant stay at the Hera Hotel, in early November. Each of our rooms had a balcony, where we enjoyed our view of the Parthenon, with a glass of wine. The rooms were very comfortable, with twin beds. The bathrooms were updated and modern. We enjoyed the breakfast and it was ample in quality and quantity.... More

This place is located right on the foothills of the Acropolis, within walking distance from the subway station. It is a very nice property completely renovated. The room we got was spacious and the bathroom even had a bath tub. Same of the staff are extremely friendly, other are a bit rough (room for improvement). The breakfast room has a... More

This is the second time we have stayed here. We chose it for the proximity of the Acropolis and the Acropolis museum. The Plaka is also very near. The room was good and the mattress was enormous and very very comfortable, however a bit mean with the tea-bags, hardly an expense! Overall the place is very clean so it's a... More

Pros: - Great location close to Acropolis Cons: - Traveled with my wife and starting on the first night, numerous bug bites on exposed surfaces in-line, in the pattern of bed bugs. Continued the subsequent nights. Confirmed likely bedbug bites when we returned home (ruled out scabies by dermatology, not mosquito bites, not fleas). We have since returned home, and... More

We come to Athens every couple of years and always stay at the Hera! Right across from the new Acropolis Museum, in the shadow of the Acropolis and lots of excellent tavernas. Lots of marble and polished wood in lobby and rooms - very elegant! The rooms are spacious (according to European standards!) and the beds and linens are first... More

The hotel was really nice. The staff was very helpful and polite and the little breakfast restaurant was lovely with an ample array of options for breakfast. As other reviewers have mentioned, the decor is rich, however the carpets and tiles could use a very thorough professional cleaning. I am a bit of a germaphobe and get really creeped out... More

Hotel in good spot but felt the hotel was pretty outdated. The shower sliding door fell off, the drain was bronzing and the hairdryer was cracked in some bits. The pillows were clearly overslept on. On positive side.. good food around and sites are closeby.

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
