We picked this Hotel for the location, which was great. Unfortunately, everything else was sub standard. We understand there is only a couple of rooms, and it is at the back of the complex. You are given a swipe tag to the entrance on the side of the building. The only trouble is you cannot exit that way, you can...

two days in Athens but two nights and not very good sleep, just few hours for sleep because the sound of the road cars was to big and we can't make a good sleep at all. I hope the owners to improve this hotel in the future.

The location was great, however the hotel itself was not. It has 2 rooms only, curtains hanging off the window, no lift, electric wires came out of a hole in the wall, tv wasn't working, breakfast was included, but either fried eggs or omelet, with chips. People were very friendly, but the service was slow. Main source of income is...

It is a small hotel, the major part of which has been transferred to cafeteria and only 3 rooms are remaining. These are very well furnished rooms, very clean and with a ver friendly personnel. The bathrooms are very small but clean.

Excellent spot, excellent view, great breakfast. But the room was dusty, and there was too much noise from the bar. there was a party going on (literally next door to the bedroom)... The hotel manager handled it in an extremely unprofessional manner and was too drunk to communicate.

At the hotel's website, Thission is introduced as a family business - and that's what it really is, with all the pros and cons that it brings. In other words, the atmosphere is cozy and the elderly woman (a member of the family, obviously) that served us was very nice, but don't expect any kind of sophisticated business service here....

During the last 15 years we have stayed at many hotels in Athens and we have learned that if you want something at the lower end of the price range not to have high expectations. This was our first time at Thission and we really liked it. There is a picture perfect view of Acropolis from every room, the rooms...

We booked a double room in this hotel since we had to attend a weekly seminar in athens. We chose the hotel predominantly on the basis of its location, close to the subway station, very good location in the centre of athens, quite safe region etc. Unfortunately when we checked in at the hotel we discovered that it is very...

Staying in Thissio / Makriyanni

Neighbourhood Profile
Thissio / Makriyanni
Named after the well-preserved Thission (ancient temple of Hephaestus), Thissio is blessed with a small wooded park and some less frenetic streets that offer numerous quieter places to stay and eat. Largely pedestrianised Apostolou Pavlou Street runs between the Acropolis and forested Filopappou Hill, well worth climbing for more great panoramas, until it merges with Dionysiou Areopagitou Street. This leads to the up-and-coming area of Makriyanni, whose centrepiece is the magnificent new Acropolis Museum. Opposite the museum is the entrance to the southern slopes of the Acropolis, while the eponymous metro station nearby is at the top of Makriyanni Street, another strip of touristic cafés and restaurants.
