I have stayed at the Nefeli 6 or 7 times over a period of about 15 years, most recently in October 2016. It's a friendly, relaxed place, family-run and the perfect location if you want to be in the heart of tourist Athens. All the main sites are within a short walk, as are plenty of good restaurants. The place... More

I've passed this hotel many times when I've been in Athens, so I thought I'd try it. It's a small, very friendly hotel located close in the Plaka, close to Syntagma Square. It was just what I needed. The room was small, but big enough for us. Good bathroom. Nice morning breakfast. And a good staff to provide directions and... More

I recommend the Hotel Nefeli whole-heartedly. I stayed here for a week in early October and it came to feel like home: I was sad to leave it, miss it already, and long to return. First, to address the things that the average US traveler cares about: the location is incredible. It is close to all of the important sites... More

A small family run hotel situated in a good location in Plaka which is ideal for all the tourist attractions. Hotel is very clean and provides a more than adequate continental style breakfast. The staff are very pleasant and Maria on reception was extremely helpful with lots of information regarding the local area and sights. Close to all transport links.... More

I was excited to stay at this hotel my last night in Greece before I flew home. The location was great, the reception was friendly and the room seemed clean. Until my friend and I woke up the next morning with what I thought were mosquito bites, which got progressively worse and worse throughout the day. At first we weren't... More

Staying in Plaka

Neighbourhood Profile
Plaka
Due to its proximity to the Acropolis, Plaka remains the area where the majority of foreign visitors stay and play. Its attractive features include small squares, some notable museums and the beautiful Mitropolis cathedral, as well as a host of places to stay, eat and drink. Its pedestrian zones make it a pleasant place to escape from the city’s notorious traffic. Adrianou and Kidathineon Streets contain a number of souvenir shops, offering classier items than you will find in the Flea Market. The most rewarding section to explore is the upper reaches towards the Acropolis itself, where many old stone houses with tiled roofs have survived. Up here you can find leafier corners and the odd quaint taverna with unobstructed views of the ancient rock.
