Quick review as I’m still sitting at the pool.
Pro’s:
Employees are fab- friendly and efficient
Rooms are very large and bedding is perfect
Breakfast is varied and you can order lots of different things. Good quality- thimbs up for great fruit every day 💕
The site is gorgeous- the beach area and the main pool. Take a walk around the gardens too 👍

Negative:
The guests block chairs at the beach area hours before they use them. Terribly impolite for those who want to use them early and then release them for others. I suspect it’s tough for management to handle this but they should try.

We booked our break only a few days before we arrived (last minute decision to risk sun than a week in Scotland), on the basis that if we did go away we wanted an open and low density hotel for minimal Covid risk. The hotel delivers on all fronts in this regard. Every guest/staff member wore a mask in the building/restaurants and gloves were used by all for the buffets. Hotel is on a peninsula with so much space it was perfect. There are lots of areas to sit without being near anyone and a sea breeze.

I would not class this hotel as 5 star but 4, it's not quite there. The costs seemed high even allowing for Covid for what you get.

Arrival was a bit of a faff with having to check in using an app (even though you have to sign every bill when you order) called exclusivi (download it in readiness). If I could have setup the app on the way that would have helped eg. Email me the link code prior.

We only had one room to choose when booking which was an upper deck infinity sea view. The room is great with only a slight annoyance of the shower leaking into the hall due to bad design. The bed was comfy and decor very modern and clean. View was fab, balcony needs some soft furnishings to stop bad echo due to being covered.

Hotel is designed to face east so all rooms get sunrise view except some that face south over main pool, waterfall suites get sunset view but that's towards mountains and overlook the entrance. I'd recommend the infinity sea view as the shared pools suites don't have sun after 3pm and a lot of the other rooms haven't been updated yet.

The main pool looks great and has fab view but is colder than the sea!

One thing I find difficult to accept when paying these prices is bad maintenance, the grounds etc were perfectly manicured and clean but there are a lot of broken/damaged sunbeds that clearly need replaced.

The beach bar is closed so they serve from inblu if you order via the app. We ate once at inblu and found the food horrendously overpriced for what we got.

Cocktails aren't that great for €10

Breakfast buffet is ok but as others said it's not amazing and I found some items rather soft or stale.

We had half board as part of the deal which was handy but didn't eat most nights as we went out. Evening selection was quite good but I wouldn't want it more than a couple of nights.

Staff are friendly and the hotel and as I found out are very lgbt friendly (quite a few couples staying). 40% were approx British, followed by German and french so great mix of people.

There is no evening entertainment (fine by us!) other than some music outside the bar.

If your after an incredibly quiet place away from crowds the hotel is perfect. If you like eating out most evenings it's a bit far from the main resort (35 min walk). Also you can't avoid steps at this place even with a lift there are no rooms on the same level.

The highlight of this hotel is definitely the stunning views available from every angle of the property. The architecture is sleek and minimal with olive trees and leafy foliage all around the site. A big positive of this hotel is not having to fight for sun loungers, there are always ones available, however the ones in the prime spots usually go early in the morning.
The staff were incredible, particularly the restaurant staff, very attentive and friendly. Two staff members particularly went above and beyond during our stay. The restaurant manager Anthimos and waitress Elena were an absolute delight and made our trip even more magical.
If you can book a private dinner one evening I would highly recommend, not only is the food delicious but the setup overlooking the hills and town was beautiful. The servers really go out of their way to make the experience very special.
The only thing we weren't quite expecting was the decor and style of room. A lot of the hotel has recently been updated but our room was a tad dated and not fully what we were expecting, but this didn't matter as it was cleaned and refreshed daily and with the stunning views outside we didn't spend much time in there anyway.
There are some great restaurants within walking distance of the hotel if you are heading out for dinner, Piato was by far the best of them, the bar Amoodi is also great for pre-dinner drinks. When we wanted to head further into the town we took a taxi from the hotel and it was only 7 Euro each way, definitely worth it to explore more of what the local area has to offer and avoid a 30/40 min walk in hot weather.
The restaurants in town that are definitely worth checking out are Pelagos and Gioma - you may need to book in advance to get the best table.
We will definitely be coming back to this hotel and I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxed, luxurious getaway away from the crowds.

I had an amazing time at Minos Palace Hotel & Suites. It's beautiful, stylishly decorated and very well maintained. The infinity pool and view from it are world class!!

I stayed in a Sea View Room (No. 144). It was clean and spacious, with a good sized balcony overlooking the town of Agios Nikolaos. One of the other reviews said that you need to stay in an Ocean View Room to see the sunset, however, it's the other way around. If you want to see the sun rise then stay in an Ocean View Room. For sunsets then the Sea View Rooms are better. I have fond memories of watching the sunset every evening from my balcony with a glass of red wine... :)

It's true what other people have said about the shower in the bathroom. It's over the bath and it's impossible not to soak the floor after you've had a shower! An improvement is definitely needed there. Also, the hotel rooms use a key card system and on a number of occasions my card stopped working so I had to get it reprogrammed at reception. It happened 3 or 4 times during my stay, which was a bit of a nuisance.

These are just minor issues. My overall experience at the hotel was excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is served buffet style and there was a large and varied selection of hot and cold options, which you can eat whilst enjoying the stunning view of the sea.

The hotel is a 30-minute scenic walk to the town of Agios Nikolaos. I did it every day and it was very manageable. You can also get a taxi for 6 euros and it takes less than 10 minutes. There are bars and restaurants along the way, so you don't need to walk all the way to the town centre if you don't want to.

They have a sister hotel nearby, called Minos Beach. I stayed there a few years ago. It's also a lovely hotel, similar decor and closer to the town centre. However, overall I preferred Minos Palace because it has a nicer pool area and the view from the hotel room was amazing.

I'd highly recommend this hotel if you're looking for a stylish, quiet, Instagram worthy getaway. I would stay there again.

Our stay was absolutely perfect from beginning to end and could not be faulted in any way. Everyone was so friendly, helpful and welcoming and looked after us so well with amazing food and service. We really appreciated all the hard work and effort of everyone at the hotel that made our stay such a pleasure. Views from every part of the hotel are stunning with either sea or mountains or both including from the large infinity pool. Food for breakfast was fresh and delicious with something to meet every taste and could be taken on the terrace with more of those stunning views. We ate at the Intublue restaurant, which is part of the hotel, down by the private beachon 3 nights. The location is amazing right on the waters edge. The food , cocktails and the service really were first class and we were made to feel very special every night we ate there. One of the nicest places we have ever eaten. We stayed in an upper deck infinity blue room. It was spacious, comfortable and quiet with an amazing sea view from the large balcony. Roof fan was great for keeping the room cool if you didnt want the air conditioning on. The private sandy beach is small but gets the sun all day and is perfect for swimming from, there are 2 showers and small changing room which were really nice touches. Gym was well equipped and easy to get access to even though you had to book. Hotel is about 30 minute walk from town but lots of tavernas, restaurants and supermarkets within 10 minutes. We are already planning next years trip!

My husband and I enjoyed a week at the gorgeous Minos Palace this September. What a beautiful spot! The hotel is sited on a promontory above the town which affords it spectacular 360 degree sea views. On one side you have the blue of the ocean and on the other, sea views and the town of Agios Nikolaos. At night it’s lovely to see the lights of the town below.

It’s easy to stroll down to the restaurants nearby at night and only 6 euros for a taxi into the centre of town from the hotel which is good for variety.

The hotel grounds are attractive and really well tended. Palm trees, flowers, herbs and shrubs abound. There are private little places scattered around the grounds to sit back and enjoy the views.

We initially stayed in a very private detached bungalow set in the gardens and with glorious sea views, just a stone’s throw from the hotel’s private beach. The bungalow had a fabulous balcony and was very comfortable. We would have preferred a walk in shower and the bathroom could do with refurbishment but the privacy and view more than compensated for the rather basic washing facilities.

In the second half of our week we were fortunate to stay in one of the hotel’s superb waterfall suites which really was a luxury experience. This is a high tech room with walk in wardrobe, super comfy large bed, spacious living area and stunning private outdoor area with our own pool. The suite had views over Agios and was a real special occasion treat. You can even pair the music on your phone with the room’s sound system. The pool was very cold but hey we could live with that! 🤣

The hotel is serene and has a very attractive main pool area. There aren’t a great deal of places to sunbathe for the number of rooms and a second pool would be ideal. We swam in the sea in the main.

Staff were all very pleasant and helpful and we were sorry to leave as we really enjoyed our stay here. There was one bIg problem…. a week just wasn’t long enough!

Stylish hotel in a spectacular location, we had a pool suite which was spacious, very clean and at times a bit unpractical set up (low sink, no hanger for towels) All pools were very cold, hardly any people swimming. The staff at breakfast was really nice, we found the receptionists not very attentive or friendly. Still a nice place to go back with some potential to improve - in both soft- and hardware.

Our recent stay at this beautiful 5-star hotel was nothing short of fantastic. From the moment we arrived we were overwhelmed by the excellent service and warm hospitality of the staff. The staff were not only very professional, but also genuinely friendly, which made us feel right at home

Our room exemplifies modernity and cleanliness. It was clear that great attention was paid to the maintenance of the room which significantly increased the comfort of our stay. Another highlight of my stay was the quiet and efficient air conditioning and the home automation in our room. This ensured a good night's sleep in a quiet room with a great view.

The international cuisine offered in the restaurant along with the themed evenings(barbecue) was exquisite. As for the bar, I am pleased to say that the service was excellent(thnx Efteria) What struck me most was that, despite the prestige of the 5-star hotel, the prices for cocktails and drinks were certainly not excessive. This was a pleasant surprise that made our evenings even more enjoyable.

All in all, I can confidently say that this hotel has met and even exceeded all our expectations. The combination of excellent service, friendly staff, modern rooms, diverse dining options and affordable luxurious extras make this hotel a top destination. Our stay was truly unforgettable and we can't wait to return.

Note:

Since there is no poolboy or life guard present before 10 a.m., some, people are busy reserving (laying towel on bed) the hotel indicates that it is not allowed, but they ignore it.

Hygiene..... I myself wear swimming shorts by the pool on my bare skin, I saw many hotel guests wearing regular underpants under their swim shorts, I know it is difficult for the hotel to check but I find this very unhygienic.

Dear harryk946, We simply cannot thank you enough for your thorough review and wonderful comments. Your high praise for our dedicated team is truly rewarding. Rest assured that your positive comments will be cascaded to all the team members with a special mention to Eleftheria. Cretan hospitality is something that we value and take pride in. Our aim is to go above and beyond guest expectations and on this occasion, it seems that we did just that. On a different note, we have taken down your comments on reserving sunbeds at the beach and around the pool and have issued strict guidelines against this unsocial behavior. Our entire team is eager to welcome you back soon and treat you to yet another memorable stay. Warm regards, Terry Kavieris General Manager of Minos Palace hotel & suites

A lovely hotel visually - I wouldn't say it's a 5 star, although everyone is very lovely, the service just isn't a 5 star service, but I think it will improve. We wasn't explained anything upon arrival or shown around. Theres no signs to show you where to go for any restaurants, lobby or bar areas. First two days we constantly got lost.

Location is beautiful, beach and sunbeds are wonderful.

When we booked it said we would get an upgrade if available, we never got this and was shown to a sea bungalow ( which is more like a 3 star room) we asked to change and they then offered us much better options.

The cocktail list needs to be improved, if you stick to classic cocktails without some strange twist, I think everyone would prefer ( the espresso martini is very questionable, along with the Pina colada) Wine is lovely.

Plates were often left on our table at breakfast for too long, and the offer of coffee and orange juice also took awhile, some mornings we had already eaten our breakfast before anyone offered drinks. However the breakfast selection is fantastic.

The gym was always busy, but the gym needs updated equipment, an actual running machine and a safer bike. there's also no wipes or cleaning supplies to clean the machines or mats after.

yoga was ok, again nothing to clean the mats, so were reusing dirty mats most days.

if this small things were improved it would be a great 5 star hotel

We stayed at St Nicolas bay next door for two nights after and the service, and cocktails were AMAZING, the gym was GREAT. I couldnt fault it. Was perfect.

My wife and I wanted to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary in style & luxury so deciding where to spend it was a big decision that had to be right!
WOW, what an incredible experience we’ve had, from the very first email I sent asking multiple questions right the way through to our last day, nothing as been too much trouble.
Every member of staff is professional, friendly and clearly have a passion to be here. It doesn’t matter who is is, from the front desk, waiting staff, bar staff, chefs, housekeeping, management, pool cleaner (I’m sure I’ve missed departments out) everyone has a smile, with a friendly, professional approach which makes the hotel an extremely nice environment to be in.
The hotel itself is stunning, spotless, comfortable with outstanding views, a real 5* experience.
The room was beautiful, lovely decor with some really nice touches and kept immaculate by housekeeping everyday.
The food was tasty and plentiful with lots of choices and the dining area was constantly being cleaned and squared away discreetly by the staff. We had a private dining experience in the herb garden one evening which blew us away. There was a slight chill in the air that evening which my wife a little concerned it may be too cold, we had no need to worry, when we got to our private table there were blankets and a patio heater to ensure our experience was perfect, and absolutely perfect it was, from the excellent service, dietary requirements taken care of and amazing views.
I could simply go on and on about this whole experience being perfect and as a couple who are fortunate to travel extensively I can honestly tell you this whole experience has been one of, if not the most special one we’ve ever had.
Thank you Minos Palace and a massive thank you to all the staff who make it all happen.
We will be back soon
