Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

a small renovated family hotel. The room is big + with a balcony where one can smoke. The hosts are very kind and helpful. excellent location within walking distance to the old city. The only complain is that the hotel is too expensive. We paid 326.88 € for 3 nights additional 9€ per person for breakfast. You can eat nearby for 6 -7 €. a small bathroom ' no conditional, no body lotion , no tissue. no safe but the it is a safe hotel

Hotel Filoxenia is a simple and welcoming place with a friendly atmosphere. Mr Nikos is a kind and very helpful host who is always smiling, asking how you are and he gives you the best tips for everything you want to do in Chania and surrounding areas. The rooms are always clean, the bed is comfortable, there is a fridge, tv, hair dryer and iron provided if needed. Also, the balcony is quite nice to spend the evenings. Everything is close - nice cafes by the door, the old harbour is just a few minutes away (walking distance), many shops, incredible restaurants and yet, the hotel is in a perfect spot to have a quiet night of sleep without all the noise from the bars. Theres a beautiful beach spot in front of the hotel as well, we loved to spend some afternoons there. Theres a lady who is also lovely and smiley that I wont forget, like Mr Nikos. Only good experiences in this hotel.

Nikos was a great host, he extended himself to make everything easy for us, I would be very happy to stay here again. For us, the hotel was simply a base to keep our things and sleep at night - and it was completely adequate in this regard. But for travelers who want different kinds of entertainment and facilities at the hotel, then they would need to spend a lot more and go somewhere else ;)

The family operating the hotel is very hostitable, friendly, clean and always willing to assist. They gave us directions when we wanted to find thing out about their town. There is actually nothing to complain about. The hotel is about 20 min walk to the main part of the tourist area it has however its own section of cafes and restaurants right on the water. Pricing is very reasonanle. I highly recommend it.

This hotel is family run. We were received by a young gentleman who promptly pointed on a map where are all the services ( and the scams to avoid) nearby: a small sandy beach with no service, the old port, the central market, all are about 5 minutes away. A nicer sandy beach with seat lounges/sun shade is about 2 miles away on the other side of the old town. We had a very nice, bright and clean room with a small balcony with sea view, ceramic floor, clean bathroom with a glass enclosure shower, comfortable bed. Breakfasts were served by the mother(?) of the gentleman at the front desk in a small dining room : freshly pressed orange juice, coffee, boiled egg, ham and bread, local cheese, half a danish, no choice however. With such a reasonable room price, it is an excellent choice to consider.

This hotel is very central and walking distance to the old town. It is right beside the beach for swimming. There is a huge variety of cafes, bars and resturants nearby. Owner has special deals for car rental which I would recommend. We came a bit early for checkin but the friendly staff made no fuss and solved any problems for us. We also got free local food while waiting. The staff were helpful in guiding to good local places and which places to avoid.

This is now our hotel of choice when we stay in Chania. Its about 15 minute walk from bus station .It is one block away from long esplanade / beach which is in turn fronted by a range of nice cafe/bars , most of whom serve good snacks .Not a fancy place but high standard rooms .Note : air conditioning set so it turns off if you open balcony window .If you head towards town you are immediately left with a choice , right towards bastion and five minute to old harbour or left into a rewarding maze of old streets that will eventually bring you to the market building .Not a lot of tourists in this part of town , and no bad thing.

Great service, very helpful and nice owners. Clean and neat. Excellent location, near the cafes and beaches. May also walk to the Agora and center of town. Great value for the money. If you need a taxi, just pick one up off the street. It is way cheaper than calling it in.

Room was never clean, the a/c was not working properly and trying to cool the room was a nightmare. The hotel is central but apart from this I see no other reason one would want to stay there. Avoid!!!!

We have stayed in many hotels in Chanea and this is the best .We only stayed for one night as we were in transit but we booked in order to check it out for future reference . Family run and impeccably clean the big bonus is the location .This area , the promenade facing the sea , is filled with cafes and restaurants mainly frequented by locals .....always a good sign .It is only ten minutes walk from the harbour or the market and on Saturdays is just around the corner from a big open air market with everything from raki to rabbits .We will definitely stay here again .
