I can not praise this hotel enough!

Rooms: We had a basic room and after a 5* AI last year we were initially shocked. However we realised we had paid for a 3 star SC holiday this year and that is what we got. The room was basic, but had everything we could possibly need and more importantly was clean!! The only time we spent in there was to sleep and shower. The room we had was 309 and overlooked the pool. It was great as still had the sun on the balcony after it had gone off the pool around 6pm.
There had been previous reviews of loud music - however we were in bed by 11/12 each night and there was no loud music at all. The music during the day was not particularly loud either. Beds were comfy - however the 3rd, child’s bed was very narrow and not very comfy, however I managed to sleep in it most nights (my son managed to con me each night for him to sleep in double!). My biggest shout out goes to our cleaner - she was so lovely, friendly and did a fantastic job each day!

Pool area: Always clean and tidy. No rush for sunbeds. We always went to beach in morning and came back around 3 and we always managed to get 2 beds right next to pool.
Waiter and waitress service to sunbeds was excellent.
Music was not particularly loud, however did get slightly louder during happy hour (4pm - 6pm) but still not offensive.

Hotel surroundings (gardens etc): Very clean and tidy.

Food: excellent food. We went SC so we could have the choice of various restaurants throughout the day. However we ended up having breakfast here everyday. We came back to the hotel and had late lunch everyday and then we ended up spending every other night there as well. I cannot fault any of the food I tried (the mixed grill to share was particularly good, and big!!). The cocktails are also amazing here, no skimping on alcohol or size!
Thank you to all the staff who ensured we were looked after when eating and drinking.

Mini market: stocks essentials and doesn’t charge more than other shops around the area.

Other Tips:
Bus to Chania is around €1:30 and approx 25mins away. This is defo worth a visit, very pretty town and harbour area. You get the tickets from the mini market in hotel

Aqua park - not the biggest but was good for a day out. We went through Jet 2 excursions, however you could get taxi there as it is close enough. I felt the whole day there was a bit long as it wasn’t massive. So you could get a taxi and buy a half a day ticket.

We went to the beach in front of the sunbamboo restaurant (turn right out of hotel and is down road on left) €9 for 2 beds and parasol and was a nice quiet area. On the first day we did walk right along the beach to the other end and it was a lot busier and the beds were €10.

Harbour opposite hotel is lovely and the little chapel at the end is beautiful.

If having late check out and don’t pay for a late room, ensure you take your towels from your room down with you and leave in luggage room for your shower later. I was expecting fresh towels for our shower later and unfortunately this was not the case so I had to use our beach towels we had used all week!!

I would definitely return to this hotel and we are already looking at pricing up flights for next year. Due to location it would be easy not to go through tour operator and get a taxi from the airport.

If you are willing to pay a little more for SC they do have some beautiful rooms, however we was trying to keep the cost down this year.

I want to thank all the staff at the Porto Kalamaki hotel for making our holiday so lovely. It was also our sons birthday when there and we never mentioned it to anyone, however they brought him an ice cream sundae and wished him happy birthday, which I thought was really nice and thoughtful.
Hopefully visit again one day! 😊

We had room in the back of hotel without view on pool but also without other guests. In front was just wall that give as more privacy and quite during mornings and evenings when sounds of bar were in place. Rooms are large, we had apartment with bad room and living room. Enough for family. Swimming pool is very clean and not crowded. Staff is vey helpful, specially Mrs Maria from the reception who offers advice anytime you need. Breakfast are served a’la carte and tasted delicious, omelet or fresh juice really worth to recommend. Just across the street is small bay and port with cosy chapel at the and. Beach starts just 200-300 meters in the left direction after you leave the hotel. Small shop with reasonable prices is on the facility of hotel with groceries and all staff you might forget for holidays.

Very nice hotel for family trip. Owner is a very nice person. He knows that your goal is to rest well. Restaurant in the hotel is very good and they have very good prices, comparing to others restaurants. Plates are really, really full. Taxi to Chania city center only 10 euro, bus 1,5 euro per person. We had really good stay. Parking is at the street and we never had problems with parking the car. Everything was perfect

The rooms did not match the description on the booking site. Four of the lamps in our room were broken. The thing holding the shower curtain was really loose and unstable, and could easily break.
Some of the cutlery were missing so we only had three forks.
The wifi was really bad and we couldn’t use our phones at the same time because the wifi was so slow. We also had trouble even connecting Four phones to the wifi.

We had multiple clashes with the staff and we didn’t feel welcome. The owner looked at us in a weird and annoyed way, whenever he saw us. He was mad at us because we didn’t buy all our groceries at the minimarket connected to the hotel and he even confronted one of us one morning.
He also ignored us and let other guests in front of us when we wanted to order a drink from the pool bar. In general he was just rude to us and behaved in a weird way.
The receptionists were really rude to us. The communication between the receptionists and the other staff was really bad and they told us differnt things, which left us in a really unpleasent situation where we were rebuked and scolded because of some hotel towels. We actually
felt like they were doing it on purpurs.

The only staff who was nice to us was the cleaning staff who did a really good job everyday and they were very helpfull if we had any questions. Also the ladies who worked in the mini marked were always very nice and friendly.

The rest of hotel was a bit like the rooms.
There were algre and food in the pool. No locks in the toilets by the pool. The drinks and food at the hotel was miserable and not worth eating. We would recommend going to Chania to get drinks and eat out. A good thing is that there is a busstop very close to the hotel so it easy to get to and from Chania, and it is easy to buy bustickets at the mini market.

We had a lovely time here. The accommodation was spotless, the staff were all very friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The pizza was the best I’ve ever tasted. The little shop on site was very convenient to get basics such as bread & milk. Happy hour is 4-6 every day, a fantastic selection of cocktails for €5. Can’t wait to go back

Came here as a solo traveler in may 2022.
When arriving, I was greeted by a lovely lady on reception, and a gentleman who showed me to my room. I booked room 305 - lovely view of the pool and also sea, brand new facilities and amazing shower!
Cocktails are to die for here, 7.50€ or 5€ on happy hour (4-6).
I would recommend taking a trip into chania town, only 1.50€ On the bus and takes about 15mins. Last bus back to the hotel is 11pm, but a taxi only costs 10€.
Hotel is close to many beaches, all within walking distance. If you are an explorer like me, I would recommend walking to chania town, takes about an hour and a half along the beaches but you get to see all the amazing agriculture and beautiful beaches.
Will definitely be coming back to stay here, Greek night was definitely worth staying for, the buffet was amazing.
Cannot fault this hotel, all staff and management were impeccable.

Thank you xx

What a find!! The staff are so friendly! Probably the most friendly staff of any hotel I have stayed at. Went to drop bags in reception on last day at 11 am. Maria asked what time our flight was and as it wasn’t till 10pm she instructed us to return our things to our room so we can chill and shower before taxi collects us!
The bar and waiting staff and shop staff are all just as helpful and accommodating. Nothing is too much trouble.

Pros of this hotel and area:
Small and relaxed atmosphere
Restaurant (great food and value) and shop onsite open long hours.
Lovely airy ac’d rooms (ours was 203)
On local bus route to Chania.
Beaches within a 1-3km walk either way, though we much preferred the road to the right as you are looking at the ocean as the little towns have a nicer atmosphere.
If you want some lovely shaded cove
beaches head right out of the hotel and cross the road and walk until you get to Lidl. Turn left and follow that road down. There left and right you can find lots of coves and a park.

The only cons we could say are of no fault of the hotel staff.
It is situated on a main road so can get a bit noisy with traffic but for us the sea being the other side of that
road made up for it.
There are no lifts, though the most you will climb are 2 short flights.

Otherwise a great little find !!

Have just returned from a lovely week here with my daughter. Hotel studio room was basic but clean and the hotel was well located. Easy bus journey into Chania and would recommend the fun train excursions for exploring if you don’t want to hire a car - great value and good fun.
Useful mini market on hotel site and restaurants etc nearby. We had a few meals at the hotel and the food was spot on each time. Cocktails also very nice.

Only cons were 1. Air conditioning is extra €9 daily which would have been nice to know about prior to booking, we lasted a couple of days without it but it was a very hot week and 2. The music by the pool felt a touch too loud and a little relentless all day every day - it really doesn’t need to be blasting out the same songs from quite early morning sometimes to late evening. The hotel is quite small so you can’t get away from it in your apartment if you are near the pool. Some days it was noticeably less intrusive than others so I guess depending who is in charge?

We came to Porto Kalamaki October 2021 for our first stay in Crete. The location is perfect for exploring the West part of the island with highlights like Balos Lagoon, Samaria Gorge, Chania town and Falasarna Beach. The staff is very friendly and helpful and always happy to give recommendations. Special mention to Spiros with his very welcoming demeanor and Andreas who makes excellent cocktails! The pool is great, our apartment had a very nice sea view, there are some great restaurant options nearby (try Salavantes!!) and value is very good! Would definitely recommend for your stay in Crete!

My wife and I have been to Crete many times and every time on an other hotel, this time it was this one. We did not have big expectations, since it's a tree star hotel. When we arrived, there was the sweetest man to greet us and showed us to our room. The room was big and clean, and yes, it was not one of the newest rooms, but the bed is one of the best we have ever had on a hotel! The room was kept very clean the whole week, so we were delighted. The manager of the poolbar and the restaurant (the man who met us when we arrived) is one of the sweetest men we have ever met on ours trips. His wife works there allso and believe me, both of them treated us like we were royals. The atmosphere they created made us eat nearly all of our dinners there! There was so much good food to choose from and everything we ate was delicious.
If you are looking for a great place to stay in Crete, this is the place to stay!
We will come back to this hotel already next year!
