We enjoyed 5 nights stay here.

I booked the hotel rather late, about a month prior to stay and the only room available was the ground floor room. It was fine but it had no balcony or private outdoor seating. Upstairs rooms looked nice with private balcony as I'd suggest rooms with balconies. We had a nice view of the water but the views would be definitely nicer from higher floors.

The hotel is very modern and stylish and the room is equipped with smart lighting features. I also enjoyed the steam shower in the bathroom. The beds were confortable and a/c worked well.

The housekeeping was fine but the only complaint about housekeeping was that they kept replenishing less towels. Upon check in, they provided 3 sets of towels and bath robes as we were 2 adults and 1 child, but towards the end of the stay we had to share towels and no wash cloths were replenished.

The restaurant was very good and we enjoyed complimentary breakfast. They had a small buffet and also a la carte menu. Their portions were quite small and my husband had to order double portions and they were happy to serve him double. We also tried their dinner and it was excellent. The restaurant is very popular with locals and it did get very busy. Their wine selection was excellent and the sommelier lady was extremely helpful and professional.

We enjoyed the evening swim in their indoor pool. It is quite small so when there were other guests in the pool, we preferred to wait for them to leave. The outdoor hot tub was amazing overlooking the ocean.

It is rocky oceanfront but the water is shallow and calm. We had water shoes and enjoyed swimming in the ocean right outside of our room one hot afternoon. We spoke with people snorkeling but they said they did not see much.

The location is about 20 min walk to Chania town centre. We walked to town one day but we were exhausted with a 5 year old and the July heat.

You can use street parking in front of the hotel but it is difficult to find in the evening as there are two restaurants that are very popular. We used their off site parking and walked to the hotel one day which was about 5 min walk. They do not offer valet which I believe they should if this was a true 5 star hotel.

Although I would not consider The Tanneries as a true 5 star hotel as advertised, it is a cute boutique hotel that is very stylish and modern. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. There was usually only one person at the reception as this is a very small hotel.

Hotel
The Tanneries is an absolutely beautiful hotel and really does feel 5 star. The quality of the interior is excellent, and you can tell that even the smallest of features had been thought through and considered. The room was a good size with views of the seas, the bed was large and comfortable and the steam shower was amazing. There were nice touches like the curtains automatically opening when you enter the room.

Service
Sylvia who we met upon check in truly made this trip exceptional. Her attention to detail, knowledge on the surrounding areas and help with our itinerary was invaluable. She was committed to making this experience as positive as possible and we always felt like she wanted to go the extra mile with any questions or requests we had throughout our stay. The service was also great from all of the staff we met such as from the restaurant, spa and porter.

Location
Although the hotel is not situated directly in old town, the 20 minute walk does not feel long which is helped by the amazing views on route. We only went to Old Town a few times during our 4 night stay and opted to walk. It is also located right next to one of the popular seafood restaurants in Chania.

Food
We had breakfast included which was in the Periplous Restaurant situation on the waterfront in the Tanneries and was very nice. They had a selection of items on the menu which were all made and served to a high quality as well and buffet style items which you could grab. The Periplous restaurant for dinner was nice and great for sunset.

Thank you so much you Sylvia and everyone at The Tanneries, you truly made this a memorable trip and we have already recommended The Tanneries to all our friends.

The hospitality and friendliness at its best!
The combination of inovative technology with use of glass, marble and wood in minimalistic style has
given this seaside hotel a unique feel.
The emaculate room and the sound of waves lapping on the shore... tops it all. What an experience staying in such a fascinating hotel! I hope I can do it again.

After over 5 weeks in Crete, my daughter and I decided to stay at The Tanneries for our final night in Greece.

This hotel is one of the most beautiful we've ever stayed in and the location is perfect. We absolutely loved the sunset view from our balcony. The restaurant downstairs had excellent service and food as well. One recommendation would be to open much earlier (we had to be on the road by 7am) so that guests going on tours or needing to depart earlier for any reason, could still enjoy breakfast.

The reason for the three stars is entirely around sleep quality. Our room was so incredibly hot. We set our in room thermostat to 19C when we first entered the room just after 3pm. By 9pm when we went to bed, the room was still terribly hot. I called the front desk and an engineer came up. She stood on a chair in the room and said that there was air flowing (we did this too, it was seeping in very slowly, definitely not what was needed to cool the room and we'd placed the fan on high) and she admitted that the room would never be able to get to 19 (not sure why this is an option on the thermostat then).

We were both sweating the entire night, wetting towels from the bathroom to put on in order to sleep even a small amount. I called the front desk around midnight to request a fan and was informed that they had no fans. The person at the desk did offer to come up and check, but with only wet towels on, I did not know what more he would be able to do than the engineer that came up earlier so we declined his offer.

Flying back to the states the next morning, we were really relying on a full nights rest which we did not get here.

This hotel is possibly the most beautifully designed space I have slept in. The interior design is exceptional in its use of materials and architectural lay out.
The staff were without exception, highly professional yet warm and welcoming.
The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, a buffet which managed not to be bland or excessive.
I did not use the pool, spa or gym but they too were perfectly formed.
Our room was stunning, the balcony above the crashing waves below was a delight. The steam shower a novel and pleasing experience.
I have very few reservations but will share them should anyone else like me be hypersensitive to sound, light and smell.
Our room overlooked a fabulous fish restaurant next door to the hotel and from here with windows closed I could hear conversation and crockery being piled up , but this ceased at midnight.
I prefer to sleep without the air conditioning on but a white noise hum was still audible in the room all night, I couldn’t find the source.
The room had an unfortunate smell of drains which did not appear to emanate from outside but staff very promptly located scented stick diffusers to address the issue.
The remotely operated blackout curtains unfortunately did not block the light at either side of the window so I was woken by light at 7am.
I only mention these issues as the hotel is expensive and new and I’m sure the management will appreciate the feedback.
Having written the above I have already recommended the hotel to friends who have extremely high standards and hope to return one day.
Many thanks to the charming staff.

The Service was very friendly with very helpful staff that went out of their way to help us. The restaurant was equally excellent with European cuisine which included local delicacies and fresh local produce. The waiters were very knowledgeable and friendly.
Recently built boutique hotel beautifully designed. Very luxurious beds and bed linens. The bathrooms were floor to ceiling marble with a shower/steam room and jacuzzi tub. All rooms have view of the sea which is a mere 20 meters away. We enjoyed this view from our balconies.
The hotel is just a couple of kilometers west of downtown Chania. We could see the town and the lighthouse from our balcony. We were amazed by the quietness of the area and enjoyed the sound of the waves lapping the dock just below the balcony.
We enjoyed our stay immensely. We had an afternoon swim in the indoor pool, delicious breakfast in the restaurant and a stroll around the neighboring seaside.
The worsted moment of our stay was the check out!

The Tanneries is one of the finest resort hotels we've ever visited. We stayed a week. Every day we pushed the buttons to retract the black-out screens and enjoyed the sight and sound of the ocean immediately below our private balcony. For the first few days we did not want to leave the room: it was so beautiful with comfortable large bed and high quality cotton sheets and pillows. The hotel is only two years and everything is perfect in the room and hotel. The heated pool is great but you will need to decide whether to use the general steam room or the one in your room. Staff is knowledgeable, personable, and caring. The full breakfast is excellent and even creative. Dinners are excellent. We did a Greek wine tasting with Ero, the Crete Wine Ass'n chosen international representative. The massage was excellent and reasonably priced. We truly did not want to leave and plan to return with the rest of our family. We greatly appreciated the fact that the resort did not 'push' us to spend extra money on the options but let us come to appreciate what was available. It is only a 20 minute walk into Old Town Chania and about the same to drive to the airport. Car rentals can be dropped off sat the hotel. Truly, this is an amazing place and a good value.

I first saw this hotel on a Youtube video and thought, Wow!
We booked it for 3 days in October and my initial reaction was..... Wow!
It's a refurbished tannery that was rebuilt from the ground up, using the original materials and tastefully renovated. It has a minimalist feel to it and no expense spared in the quality of the decor.
The view from the balcony is second to none and it helps that it has a waist-level glass surround which doesn't impair the view.
The separate shower room is also a steam room, although you have to give it 20 minutes to heat up.
The lighting, mood lighting, curtains and blinds are operated electronically by a touchpad on either side of the comfortable bed.
It certainly lives up to its 5* status, however, I felt it was a bit of a letdown regarding the breakfast. An excellent selection for the continental style but it was the same every day. The menu items were a letdown, in my opinion. They sounded better than what was presented.
Would I return? Of course, It's a beautiful, quiet location, with stunning views and lovely staff.

In early December we celebrated my wife's 65th birthday with a two-night stay in the presidential suite and also a dinner party in the restaurant with twenty friends on a busy Saturday night.
Both experiences were exceptional.
The hotel is an amazing combination of heritage exterior and luxury modern interior, with reference to its tanneries' past on display throughout.
The room was perfect with its twin Romeo and Juliet balconies, wood fireplace, lovely jacuzzi and steam room, soft bedding and the constant rhythm of waves outside … all making for a very relaxing and romantic stay.
And the birthday dinner couldn't have been better! We held it in a room adjacent to the restaurant, with a partition in place to ensure privacy. They even moved a Christmas tree from the restaurant into the room to fit in with my wife's feature of miniature Christmas houses in the middle of the room. The food, wine, cocktails, and service were perfect throughout the evening, with all our guests commenting on how wonderful everything was.
I can't speak highly enough of the helpful and flexible attitude of owners Manolis and Stefanos, and all their staff. They really bent over backwards to accommodate all our wishes and I couldn't imagine a better place for our celebration.
This is definitely one of the best hotels we have stayed in, and we’d highly recommend it to anyone planning a romantic getaway or a special event, especially in the quiet winter months.

Still fantastic!!! A year later and the room looked just as luxurious and inviting as the first day I stayed here. I was the first guest to stay in the Pesidental suite, last December and I was stunned to see that it looked just as new and fresh as it did a year ago. This year my husband and I spent a lovely weekend celebrating my birthday here. Waking up to the sound of the sea below our window was marvelous in the morning and going to sleep with the fireplace flickering at the foot of our bed in the evening was pure luxury! The bed & bed linens are so comfortable and inviting. The staff was very friendly and eager to help us plan our our weekend celebration. We had excellent service and food at the restaurant. Sylvia at reception was outstanding! This is a majestic place in a picturesque location, I think we will make a habit of visiting in the winter months!

I’m sure they could accommodate you, because the suite I stayed in had a loft with a master suite and a twin/double bed on the main level. You should contact them for availability.
