This hotel is located in the small and quite village of Maleme and although the beach is pebbles / sand we did notice that as you go into mid September the winds start to pick up and sometimes swimming was not allowed. However there are two pools in the hotel and even with the social distancing there were always enough beds and umbrellas.
We took up the hotels offer and they arranged a taxi service to and from the airport which worked out at 45 euros each way.
We just happened to be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary while we were out there and I had asked the hotel to arrange some flowers for the room. When we arrived with our adult daughter they had given her her own room next to ours which was a really nice gesture on their part. It was this level of detail that impressed me about the hotel management and a big thank you to Stavros and Yannis.
We booked an executive apartment which was lovely, we had a sea view at the front of the hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and modern.
The age range during our stay went from young families through to the more mature visitor and the hotel is also popular with a mix of nationalities. The gardens are immaculate and all aspects of the hotel were constantly being cleaned.
The hotel is all inclusive and during this time you were served your food and the queue always moved quickly and people learnt to come down at different times to space things out.
The food was varied and there was lots of it, especially recommend Mexican and noodle night and a glass of red, white wine or a beer always went down well I must mention Sykis who always served with a smile.
If you didn’t always feel up to lunch after a hearty breakfast there were always rolls, sandwiches cake and fruit available and at 5pm we always had an ice cream.
The bar drinks were made up of local brand and the lager was very nice as well as some of the cocktails in the evening and a big thank you to Sasha the afternoon and evening barman.
We hired a car for three days and got to visit Elafonissi and Falassarna beaches and took a trip to the Samaria Gorge and also the islands botanical gardens which has a nice restaurant at the end of your walk.
A fantastic, quiet, relaxing holiday and I would definitely recommend this hotel and a huge thank you to all the staff for making our stay such a wonderful experience during these difficult times, we wish we could have stayed here for longer!

Lovely hotel. Really friendly, nice staff. Excellent swimming pools. Nice play area for kids. Room was lovely. Sometimes the cleaning of it seemed to vary depending which cleaning staff did it. On the days we had the two cleaning ladies from Bulgaria and Romania, the cleaning was excellent. On a day we had a different woman, not so good, towels weren’t changed, dirty cups left etc. Our room was by the main pool, could be a little noisy at times with kids when we were on the balcony, but fine with the door shut and nothing too bad anyway. Good WiFi in the rooms. Good air conditioning included if all inclusive. Wonderful shower. Pools are good, loads of comfortable sun beds available. Could do with steps to the kids pool as I couldn’t get in with my grandson due to physical health problems and needing to kneel to get in with him. Really beautiful grounds, lovely sea front opposite (take good beach shoes, full of pebbles and slippy under foot) but definitely worth a walk or dip in the sea.
Loads of nice soft drinks constantly available, lovely ‘Mocktails’ made up for the kids. Spirits only served in the evening which we preferred (no drunken guests), but nice cocktails made. Bar closed at 10.30, which, again suited us. Some entertainment in the evening, really good singer doing loads of different genres. Nice ice cream available from 5pm every evening.
Food was varied and plentiful, but we felt that the meat sometimes seemed poor quality and appeared to be cooked from frozen, rather than freshly made. If you are a fussy eater, you may struggle a bit, but the salads and fresh fruit were plentiful and good. It would be nice to have more air conditioning/ fans in the dining area as it was very hot at times.
Loads of different nationalities but very polite and friendly on the whole.
Chanda is a beautiful City and definitely worth visiting, the boat trips are definitely worth doing. We wouldn’t recommend the little , local ‘ train ride’ that tours the local area. Very hot, uncomfortable and not worth the money.
Overall, a wonderful family hotel. Our 4 year old grandson loved it. The manager, who I think was called Stavros, is really hard working, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I would definitely recommend this hotel and hope to visit again.

We had the pleasure of visiting this lovely leisure spot for our summer holiday for the second year in a row. The hotel, located somewhat distant from mass tourism yet still not too far out, is a splendid place for retreating from everyday hustle and bustle to recharge your mental batteries in a cozy atmosphere. The hotel, with its lovely green garden with assorted plants of herbs and its two pools plus the pebble beach right across the mostly quiet road, is pure balm for soul and body, and the always smiling and accommodating hotel staff only makes it better.

Despite the pandemic, guests were minimally impacted by pandemic regulations. Only hotel staff needed to wear face masks, which was always done with a smile and a positive attitude. Food had to be served instead of being self service, but this worked out fine as well and with a nice variation of dishes. Room service should be arranged a day in advance, which was no hassle at all, and overall it was very comforting that the hotel took good preventive measures yet still managed to have guests almost forget about the pandemic.

All in all, for us as a family being in search of a relaxing holiday with sunshine, bathing in pool and ocean, lovely foods and drinks, and with superior hotel staff hospitality, this is a terrific gem, to which we hope to be able to return.

I would like to give Maleme mare a Good, not average but not very good! ! The resort is quiet, ideal for adults, not really much to do for kids, in fact they might be missing a trick by not making it an adults only resort! Our flight was delayed so we arrived after midnight and despite being told by email that someone would be there when we arrived there was no one to be seen and everything was locked up. There were 4 sets of keys left on a table but we had no idea which were ours. After a phone call someone did eventually appear from their accommodation to tell us which were our rooms.
Our rooms were modern and bright with sea views unless you are on the ground floor. The kitchenettes are not very well equipped, with random items, some rooms had glasses others cups, no tea spoons, All that is needed really is the facility and provisions to make tea and coffee but although there is a kettle and a strange coffee machine (that none of us could fathom out) you might not have a cup or a teaspoon. If you are lucky to have tea and sugar when you arrive they are not replenished so you have to take more from the restaurant and buy milk from the shop. Beds are comfy, maids come in each day but only do the bare minimum. Showers are nice and powerful but in some rooms could leak under the glass door and cause a mini flood! There were 6 of us in our party initially with 4 rooms but 3 of us stayed on for extra days so moved rooms so experienced 6 different rooms. Hence why I have experience of a good selection of rooms and their facilities!
Pool areas are lovely, but if you are after music around the pool or aqua aerobics this isn't the place for you. In fact if you want any entertainment this probably isn't going to be your ideal holiday. There is nothing in the day and entertainment only 2 nights a week. On the other nights they do not even play music in the bar area so very little atmosphere.
The resort has a few shops and tavernas within walking distance but if you want more bars and restaurants you can take a bus into Platanias or Chania. The beach is seconds from the resort but it is a stony beach.
The food is on the whole good but the 'restaurant' lacked in ambiance! Lunch and dinner were very similar with nothing like a panini, pizza or jacket potato on offer for lunch so you are eating full on meals twice a day. It is very much like a school canteen where you are expected to take your own plates and scrape them off. I feel the whole eating experience could have been made more enjoyable by adding some nice tablecloths and laying the tables and maybe a little table service if only at the evening meal. Having said this we paid such a reasonable room rate that we didn't mind paying to eat out a few times. Be aware that the all inclusive drinks finish at 10.30 after which you have to pay but the bar closes at 11 and it is off to bed.
On the whole we had a lovely quiet break so much so that us ladies stayed on for an extra 3 nights! Stavros the manager is really helpful if a little bonkers. To sum it up if you are after a quiet break away with very little entertainment this is your place. I would not advise you bring kids here as they would probably be bored.

We have both been here about a week now and getting ready to go home. The hotel manager offered a free 500ml bottle of olive oil made from the hotel itself. When we refused it due to not having any check in bags, he went out of his way to get us 4x 100ml bottle instead so that we could sill take the olive oil home. We loved every minute we have spent here at this hotel. It is very cheap to get a bus into the local town on Chaniá. We definitely will be booking again to this hotel.

We have just returned from a week here. The resort is clean and relaxing and the staff worked tirelessly to ensure that guests have a safe and stress free stay. Our room was smaller than expected, and we were immediately given a larger apartment, no questions asked. Due to regulations, all food had to be served, and the staff wore their PPE in the heat, and provided an excellent service, and the food was fresh and varied, allowing you to sample the local cuisine. They took on all the extra efforts to follow the strict rules in Greece and always welcomed you with a smile, nothing was too much effort. The pool areas were clean, with plenty of space and loungers. I can honestly say I forgot about the stress of the last 4 months and we had an amazing time. Stavros gave great advice about local trips to Chania, with his infectious laugh, you cannot help but smile. All the staff are a credit to this hotel. As a group of 3 women and 4 children, we felt safe and comfortable and I know we would all love to visit this great little hotel again.

The Hotel is literally a stones throw from the beach, you just have to cross a quiet road. Sunbed's and Sun Brolly's on the beach are 2.5 Euro's per day and you can take your all inclusive drinks with you. Beach towels can be hired from reception 5 Euros each which is refundable on their return.
The Hotel and surrounding location is very quiet, so if you are looking to dance the night away this is not the place for you. There are few shops and restaurants nearby. The local bus stop to the beautiful harbour of Chania is about 10/15 mins walk from the Hotel and costs 2.30 Euro's each way.
The Hotel and gardens are well maintained and also the two pools. The rooms are cleaned everyday and linen and towels changed.
Stavros and Sasha the barman were excellent hosts along with the rest of the staff. Nothing was too much trouble, everything we asked for was provided. One night i asked Sasha why i had not seen any Baclava, was it not available on Crete as it is a favorite of mine. He said he would speak to Mr Stavros ,the manager , and it was on the Menu the very next night and it was delicious! , as was the all inclusive daily buffet.
It was an unforgettable 10 day holiday, thanks to Stavros and his staff. On leaving the hotel we were given a bottle of olive oil, that is made from their own olive trees, which was a lovely surprise!

Mixed feelings about this hotel, but I've given it 3 stars because the time spent with the family was a lovely one.

We usually like a little bit of comfort when we go away, and unless necessary, don't do all inclusive because we love good food and nice restaurants/bistros to return to or explore.

We went with my daughter, son in law and 2 granddaughters, they are not bothered about great food, so long as they get fed, or where they eat as long as it's clean.
We are not comparing this to the luxury market, we knew what it was when we booked, so have tried to give an experienced based review .

What we loved

The welcome we had upon arrival.
Some of the staff were really friendly
The quiet location close to the beach
The pool area was great for the kids
It was clean
The chocolate cake you get with breakfast which morphs into "brownies" by the coffee machine during the day, and topped with a ganache by night for dessert.
The bread
The fresh fruit
The Aircon in our room was efficient and as it was so hot outside, and in the public areas indoors, a welcome relief from the heat.

What we thought was ok

The pool area for us adults, comfy sunbeds and plenty for everyone if a little close together
The Greek salad
The rooms were ok. Basic, but ok.

What we disliked

The food. In general wasn't good. We know hotels recycle leftovers, but the majority of dishes seemed to be different versions of what we had for lunch, or just a sauce poured over meat we had for lunch.
Baked beans on our last day literally swimming in olive oil.
Desserts were chocolate mousse, jelly (usually not set) a moussy type toffee or chocolate pie. Same every day for lunch and dinner.

The unbearable heat in the "restaurant" made for really uncomfortable, rushed meal times.

The restaurant was more like a canteen. No frills, no ambience in the evening.
Every morning there'd be a queue waiting for cups for beverages, and glasses for cold drinks. They seem to have insufficient supplies for breakfast.
We ate out twice just to get more food options and away from the uncomfortable environment.

The kids were looking forward to having ice-cream on tap as an all inclusive. This was served between 5&9 only.
The bar closed at 10.30
The wine wasn't great at all, the beer every lunchtime from canteen, undrinkable.

The bar area was also very hot with no aircon in the enclosed areas to give an option of moving out of the heat.

Old, broken inflatables left behind were just left in or around the pool for most of the week.

If you want a budget holiday in a good quiet location that is clean, and are not bothered about food too much, a hot canteen style setting and not having romantic evenings, this could be ok. We did have a lovely family holiday.
But if you are wanting some great food to eat in comfy ambient surroundings, you'll be disappointed.
This is definitely not a 4 star hotel, but it is somewhere you can have a great family holiday, just go self catering so you can eat out.

A beautiful hotel with stunning sea views and gorgeous gardens. The staff were very welcoming and polite, they greeted us off the coach and walked us back to the coach to say goodbye. We was also given a bottle of their homemade olive oil as a leaving gift.
The rooms were cleaned daily, the food could be a bit repetitive but there was always something to eat. We had a great time here and wish we could be back their now.
The area is very quiet with just a few shops and restaurants, with a reggae bar up the road. We catched the bus out to Platanos and to Chania.
Overall this is a very relaxing holiday, it's not a area with lots to do, but I loved it there.

The hotel is located in a great location for exploring western Crete. The rooms are clean and nicely decorated.
The staff is very nice and the owner sparkles with positive energy.
The food is very tasty and quite varied. The beach is rocky but climatic. The bottom of the sea falls gently, so it is quite suitable for families with children.
Oil from family cultivation as a gift at check out was a great surprise.
The surrounding area is quiet, so we recommend to those who want to rest or visit Crete.

We stayed early October and it was very quiet. We used the chairs and parasol most every day and only got charged 5euros one morning. The hotel is very relaxed with no strict rules. Towels are available for pools.
