What a lovely laid back hotel. It is situated just away from the village "strip" but is still within a 10 minute walk of it all. Rethymnon is about 40 minutes walk, and the Old Town a little further. The staff are very friendly, always have time to answer your queries, and if you do have any problems ( we had an electrical outage one morning, and a hairdryer that blew) they are very prompt in sorting it out. Our room had plenty of kitchen bits n bobs to see you through 2 weeks self-catering, although with the amount good food available nearby we found that besides breakfast and the odd salad at lunchtime, we hardly ate in. Beds are comfortable and the bathroom was modern. The pool is of a reasonable size and there are plenty of sunbeds to go round ( although the premium spots always seemed to have the same towels draped on them!) Everything is kept spotless, and the bed linen and towels were changed very regularly. The one downside was the 2am wake up call by the local roosters ( yes, more than one) followed by the barking dogs, and various other farmyard noises. We didn't sleep well at all. Our room, 221, was at the back, looking on the surrounding farms. Would we go back? Yes but maybe not to that room.

Excellent budget hotel, very clean and relaxing. Really beautiful with bougainvillea and butterflies everywhere. Staff all very helpful and friendly. Pool was a good size, clean and lots of free loungers. Safe and secure. Small on site shop had essentials at reasonable prices, with bigger supermarkets a short walk away. Close to bus stop to Rethymno Town or a 5-10 minute walk to the local strip of tavernas and shops and the beach. We booked an apartment for the two of us, which was plenty of space. Bed was huge and comfy. Air con was an extra charge but worth every penny in the heatwave! Showers were lovely, full range of temperatures and excellent water pressure. Cleaners were great. We just don't recognise the conditions described in other reviews - never saw a single rodent or cockroach anywhere on the premises! We were impressed with how clean it was. Breakfast was good - small but a decent range of hot cooked, toast, cereal, yoghurt, fruit, pastries or continental. Only thing we could fault it on was that the kitchen in the apartment only had hot plates to cook on, no oven. Perfect for a relaxing, low stress and reasonably priced getaway. We'd gladly visit again.

Arrived early hours of the morning a day late because of the flight problems, no one was there to check us in but I won't waffle on about who was to blame for that, got to bed eventualy at about 4am!
Happy with our room, big enough, we spend most of our time on balcony anyway or out & about. Beds were comfy. Self catering facilities were enough for us, ( on holiday I refuse to cook! ) maybe a toaster would be handy?
Everywhere in the hotel was spotlessly clean, bedding & towels changed about 5 times in 2 weeks. Bins emptied every 2 days.
Never saw one mouse, rat or cockroach the whole time we were there like other people have mentioned.
The hotel is situated in a residential area so there is some noise mainly in the evening from local families and kids as other people have said. The walk down to town takes 10-15 mins but it is uphill on the way back which can be hard work if its hot but there's plenty of taxis about!
I think the hotel could do with more staff because there are times when there is one person running the bar and reception which I've never come across before so they are run off there feet especially when having to do food too.
Would I stay there again? 🤔
I definitely would if I wanted a cheap week away in the sun, but I've never stayed anywhere twice in the same place as I like seeing new places and visiting new areas.

The Apollon is a small aparthotel with a lovely pool. That's the positive bit. The room we had was adequate and had comfortable single beds, but our room backed onto a residential housing estate and was noisy on a daily basis with scooters, teenagers with fireworks, dogs barking and people arguing. The balcony had no view and was devoid of any sun at any time of the day.
The room lacked storage for clothes and the floors were not clean.
Breakfast was very hit and miss. Advertised as being available between 8 and 11 but no food or very little left after 9.30. Monotonous offerings anyway so only went three times.
I found the staff cold and unfriendly, and the snacks offered by the pool side were grim. There was absolutely no nighttime atmosphere by the bar at night and it was flat and disappointing to say the least.
Sunbeds and space very cramped with the usual brigade of bed hoggers you find anywhere!
The Apollon is a fair walk to the beach along a busy road so be prepared if your mobility is compromised or you have young children.
Finally, be aware that when you check out of your room on the day of departure at 12.00 that you will not be offered anywhere to shower or change clothing before your flight home. As we were not leaving the hotel until 20.00, we were forced to change in the communal toilet by the pool.
We did not find our stay at the Apollon quiet or relaxing and for that reason we will not be back.

We couldn't have asked for better and this is always our place to stay. It's an apt. hotel so has a small kitchenette which is very handy. It's very clean and the staff are lovely and friendly. It's a smaller place without the "luxury spa" thing going on, but it's perfect for couples and families wanting a more homey feel. The breakfast is standard fare but always plentiful and there are plenty of restaurants within easy walking distance, as is the small town. It''s in a suburb of Rethynmo, but the larger town is a short ride on a bus or taxi, and the beach is a 10 min walk away. The hotel is located in a neighborhood, which is generally quiet and is easily accessed. The pool is lovely, there are plenty of sun loungers and it's a very friendly place with people returning year after year. We can't say enough good about it.,

The hotel is nice and located in a quiet area. Rooms are very spacious and clean, with a large dining area. Towels and bed linens were very clean, mattresses were comfortable. However the tablecloth had some small stains and seemed not to have been changed from previous guests. Cleaning is made every 2 days, when towels are also changed. The employees are very kind and helpful. Supermarket Lidl is nearby. The hotel is located 15 min by foot to a wonderful beach near Rethymnon and 5 min to the public transport (bus to Rethymnon).

We book 2 rooms here.We arrived at hotel around 1am.A guy gave as the keys and said good night. He did not tell us where are the rooms or any indication even we have a 3year kid.
We booked rooms with balcony and air con and we get 2 rooms somewhere like a bassement and when we ask the next day for the air con they said we have to pay 6euros per night.
As we booked rooms for family,we had 2 single beds and one "lets say sofa".
In the hotel is a minimarket and we bought 2 beers and go to check the pool and the owner come to us and said we cannot drink it to the pool because we have to buy it from the pool bar (that one was closed)
They had some amenities in the room and even that we did not use it we had to pay 8.50 euro because we had to take it back to the reception(We had no idea)
Very noissy hotel ,rats coming in the room and bugs.
The worst holiday that we ever had.
Never come back.Try to find other places that this one because there are a lot of them close.
All staff great except the owners that they are terrible.

The Apollon is a lovely place to stay and very good for a 3 star hotel.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. There is a little shop on site which is handy, although I never was sure when it would be open or closed! Air con is very reasonable at €70 for 8 nights. I think the safety deposit box was about €12. The staff provided us with an extra room key when we asked, which we appreciated.

We decided not to have the breakfast because I can’t handle that much white carbs!! If it had included a wholegrain option I probably would have gone for it because there were also hot items plus fresh fruit and veg.

Our studio room was relatively spacious with a nice modern bathroom. Kitchen equipment was limited and there was no sieve, which made draining pasta awkward. The balcony was a nice space to sit out for breakfast, although ours didn’t have much of a view. Our room was cleaned regularly.

The pool area is the jewel in the Apollon’s crown: a gorgeous bougainvillea makes a natural canopy and is just stunning. The pool is spotlessly clean and a good size. It is the same depth throughout (waist depth).

I hope to stay at the Apollon again and would happily recommend it to other travellers.

Lovely self catering holiday. Family run hotel. Staff was helpful and took care of our needs including letting us stay in our room late to use showers for a late flight. Snack bar was available during the day for light meals. Rooms were basic but perfect for us as we only use them to sleep and change and enjoy being out and about. Pool was beautiful with plenty of chairs even on the busy days. Not overcrowded with lie lows and many shared what was there! Walk to town was 10 minutes but a bit of a climb back up in the heat. It is about a 10 minute taxi ride to Rethmynon itself, but there are some shops and restaurants in the village where the hotel is.perfect for a quiet, relaxing holiday.

A very pleasant place to stay. The rooms were nicely furnished and the beds very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is well situated for all the local tavernas, beaches and shops. The bus route for Rethymnon is roughly a ten minute walk, as are the local beaches. Some of the rooms look out on the residential area which is ok if you want to see a slice of Cretan life but less so if you need an early or quiet night. We did request a room change and the staff responded immediately. There is a pleasant pool area and plenty of sun beds for when the summer weather kicks in. We were less fortunate as it can be windy and wet in October. However there is excellent wi fi and it’s possible to order takeaway deliveries from a couple of places nearby if you don’t fancy going out. Good value and definitely a place to return to.

There are plenty of taxis, there us a rank just near Lidl, although you do see them along the strip area too. We were told it was about €10. The buses are quite cheap, but get your tickets at hotel reception. Bus stop is near the church just down from Taverna Bar Stratos. Hope this helps.

Buses run until late. Bus stop we used was just at the bottom of the hill 5 mins max walk, every 30 mins timetable up in hotel reception. you need to buy a ticket from the kiosk before you get on the bus and the same at the other end. There are lots of restaurants close by again just walk down the hill and you have a good choice locally if you do not want to go further afield Have a lovely time, we did especially eating locally.
