The Old Markets is an utterly lovely place in one of my favourite spots on earth. It’s hard to know which is more exquisite, the island or the hotel. Both are magical. I have so many happy memories from the terrace at the Old Markets - excellent breakfasts, generous evening drinks, sunsets overlooking the harbour, the staff always warm, gracious and extremely attentive.
Then there are the rooms, each with their own particular charm and character, all decorated with the utmost elegance - an abundance of style, complete with ancient figurines and exquisite art. I have kept the little notes left by my pillow each evening as a memento of beautiful times. A huge thank you to Ben for looking after us so well. Truly a wonderful hotel, understated, refined, effortlessly elegant.

Room Tip: There are a lot of steps in Symi. The staff will help you with your bags.

I'm an avid traveller but I haven't been to many places that would strike me with the natural charm of the settings, the impeccable quality of the accommodation and the easy-going, caring attitude of the staff.
If you want to travel you Symi, you must absolutely stay at the Old Markets where rooms overlook the houses perched on the other side of the harbour, beds are comfy and breakfast are to die for.
I wish I could come up with some constructive criticism but I really can't.

Excellent location in beautiful Symi harbor! Around 3 flights of slow and winding stairs about from the harbor, this hotel is quiet but close to all you could want. The owner was very kind and helpful and met us at our ferry. He also carried our two suitcases for us up to the hotel and down when we checked out. Breakfast was also great and the pastries were excellent. Try the croissants! Our room was the smallest one, the Arabian room, and faced the street. I was worried about noise but it was not an issue and quiet at night. The room was a bit tight but had clever under the bed storage for our two suitcases. It was one room though so please do not book this room if you need any kind of privacy in the bathroom! The sinks and mirror provide a screen to the shower, toilet, and bidet but there is no blocking sounds. We were here two nights and it was totally fine but some couples may not be okay with that. Also, please note there is no hotel pool! Some sites mention one but it is a private pool for one of the rooms. You’d only have access if you book that room. I highly recommend this hotel and make sure to check out Agora next door if you are interested in fine dining!

Andy and his team have created a warm and welcoming establishment. Very accommodating with my dietary breakfast requests.
It’s in a fabulous location just close enough to the heart of things, but far enough away so that you get to enjoy the view and some tranquility.
The bar service in the early evening is a fun way to have an aperitif before you go out. I love the fact that it turns into an honesty bar at night.
The room was fabulously comfortable.
The bed was sumptuously appointed with comfortable sheets. The turn down service was welcome, with the little cheery notes placed by a chocolate at night.
We stayed in Ouaranos Suite which is worth paying for for the view.
Don’t come if you don’t like walking up steps as there are a fair few to contend with.
It was so wonderful that they helped us off the ferry with our heavy bags. When we left they did the same thing too- thank goodness.
They booked the most delightful restaurants for us too. Nothing was too much trouble.
There are only a couple of things I’d change. The bathroom needs re-screeding, as the water doesn’t drain away well. It’s a bit of a hazard at night. We had to put towels down.
I know it’s a Greek thing, but, I’d love it if you didn’t allow people to smoke during breakfast service. In Spain they’ve banned smoking outside in restaurants, and it’s fantastic. That would be the only thing that would stop me returning.

We returned to The Old Markets recently following our amazing trip last year. Everything was jus as wonderful, It was a delight to reacquaint ourselves with Ben, our charming and helpful host, as well as the regular staff Mikey, Anniq Anna, and Aghura ?spelling) who all looked after us so well. We missed Anna from France who returned home early - hope your papa is recovering well Anna.
We stayed in the Symi Suite, the most gorgeous room overlooking the harbour. Breakfasts on the terrace were delicious with top class service. Taking evening drinks with some of the other guests each day was a treat. Although The Old Markets is siyuted in the harbour it is tranquil, due to being about 100 steps up.
One evening there was a drinks party with a tape recording from Andrew Davies, the owner. Andrew has been away from the island for a couple of years due to health problems. Wherever we went on the island people spoke so warmly and highly of Andrew so it was good to here his strong voice. We hope to return to The Old Markets again in 2022 and meet Andrew in person. Rest assured Andrew, Ben with his natural charm and innate kindness is taking good care of The Old Markets and your guests.

Beautiful old restored buildings just a few steps from the quayside. We stayed in “Ouranos”, a beautiful, tastefully decorated room with amazing views over the harbour. Everything needed is provided and Andrew and his team couldn’t do enough.
Breakfast on the terrace was delightful and on two evenings we enjoyed the fixed menu three course dinner also on the terrace.

Our first trip to Greece will be the first of many! The Old Markets is a beautiful environment and totally relaxing. 5 mins walk down the steps to the harbour (with the water taxis to the extraordinary beaches and the fantastic Poseidon round-the-island boat tour) and 15 minutes to the top of Kali Strata and restaurants at the top of the hill (The Secret Garden and Kali Strata). It’s a VERY short transfer from the Sebeco ferry terminal and Daniel met us on arrival and made sure our bags were spirited to our room.
The staff are absolutely welcoming and put you at your ease most gracefully.
To be ultra-critical, a little more variety at Breakfast would enhance longer stays but what is on offer is lovely (especially the Symi Omlette). Don’t expect champagne as it says on the website.
However, we had a 10 days stay, full of superlatives, and would strongly encourage anyone to stay.
Thank you Carlo and Team. We will be back!

Although the room was stunning and the location picturesque, that wasn't even the best part of our stay at The Old Markets. The staff were so kind and accommodating, they really made our stay feel extra special. If you're considering visiting Symi, do yourself a favour and book here.

100 steps up to this gorgeous hotel where they pride themselves with attention to detail. The staff were very helpful especially Elizabett who nothing was any trouble for her. We loved the breakfasts on the terrace with the view of the harbour.Symi is a lovely island and so much fun getting on a boat every day for a quick trip to one of the many beaches all offering beaches (not sandy so bring swim shoes) tavernas and sunbeds with parasols. Coming back to the old Markets for a quick swim in the plunge pool was a treat.

We had an extremely relaxing four nights in this charmingly renovated old building, where the original features have been lovingly preserved.
Excellent informal service. Friendly staff. Beautiful views. Opulent bed and top quality bedding meant we slept like royalty.
Highly recommended as something authentic and out of the ordinary.
Thank you so much.
