A 'Designated Area of Natural Beauty'. The property thoughtfully combines the luxuries of having previously been a four star boutique accommodation. Adapted for the safety of guests you'll receive all the ease & comfort of a 'home away from home'. Day trippers to the village come and go between 10am and 3pm, the rest of the time is yours to enjoy the peace and quiet, eat at the local tavernas, sleep under clear night skies, surrounded by nature and fresh mountain air. Spend days exploring the island or beaches are just 15 minutes drive away. This used to be a hideaway from pirate attacks, a place where you could see, but not be seen from the sea.

Property's Favourite Review
The Merchants House is a collection of once-abandoned village houses that have been sympathetically restored. It is pretty much the only place in Old Perithia offering accommodation. We had what was once a weaver's room - all furnished with modern versions of the type of furniture that was once found in the original houses. All of the mod cons are there too - even a TV with Netflix (if you have an account already) and a good bathroom and shower. The owners were friendly and served breakfast on the patio in front of the houses. There are five tavernas in the village - all just a minute or two's walk away along the cobbled streets. We tried three of them and found them to be well-priced and with good menus. There is a bee farm on one side of the village that can be visited and from which we bought honey. The bee farmer also has a small shop (Old Perithia's only shop of any sort) where the honey and also handmade gifts can be bought - many made out of olive wood. Much of Old Perithia is still abandoned. It is an atmospheric place and very photogenic. Definitely worth a visit - as is The Merchants House.

Hi Mark, thanks for the outstanding review. It is very rewarding when we get a review that notices all the small details we put into the room and the general ambiance of the hotel. We truly appreciate the time you have taken to comment on the hotel, and the village and encourage others to experience a truly unique experience.

We treated ourselves to a two night stay at The Merchant’s House as we neared the end of our Corfu Trail adventure. Tired and dusty, we arrived to a warm welcome from Marieke who showed us to our lovely individually styled room. Following lunch in one of the great taverna’s in the village, we returned to find David setting up his Gin & Tonic bar on the comfortable terrace. A great space to relax and take in the beauty and calm of the surroundings. In the mornings, we enjoyed by far the best breakfast of our time away. Home made bread, preserves, granola with yogurt and fruits. We were too full to try the delicious sounding egg dishes also on offer. David and Marieke made us feel so welcome. They have created a truly special place in a beautiful, peaceful location. Really hope we can return one day.

A return visit for a few days relaxation after the Corfu Trail. This really is a special place to unwind and relax. Lovely rooms, excellent breakfast with local ingredients and hosted impeccably once again by Marieke. Highly recommended.

Old Perithia is a truly magical place. A previously abandoned village way up in the mountains of North East Corfu. The village is gradually being reoccupied but still has an abandoned, strangely enticing feel to it. The Merchant house is a great place to stay to experience this wonderful place. The hosts, David and Marieke, were so, so welcoming and helpful and made us feel very at home. The breakfasts were really tasty and enjoyed on the beautiful patio. David’s “gin bar” was also very welcome each evening before we wandered down to the local tavernas. The suite we had was very comfortable and stylishly furnished. The old village square was only about 50 metres away with 3 excellent tavernas. We tried them all! The drive up to the village is not for the faint-heated, about 20 minutes off the main road up a narrow mountain road. After a couple of journeys our confidence increased In conclusion, this was a wonderful experience and one we would look to repeat at some time in the future

I had a lovely couple of nights' stay at The Merchant's House. David and Marieke are friendly and welcoming hosts, and go out of their way to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. They gave great tips on local hikes, and prepared a wonderful breakfast every morning, full of local produce. The accommodation itself was spacious, comfortable, with lots of character. The bed was one of the most comfortable I can remember staying in! Old Perithia itself was a fascinating place to stay. The local hikes were excellent and the tavernas were welcoming and served delicious food. I would heartily recommend adding a stay at The Merchant's House to your Corfu itinerary!

We stayed here for a couple of evenings and did not want to leave. Absolutely charming and the owners cannot do enough for you. The room was beautiful and spotless. The little help yourself bar outside was delightful and the garden was a joy whilst we did our studies. Breakfast was thoughtful and because everything is home made you know that an effort is made. We will return and cannot recommend highly enough. An oasis of peace. Thank you

A return trip to Old Perithia and The Merchant’s House excelled once again. Lovely individually furnished rooms in keeping with the theme of their original purpose. The building is redeveloped from the historic commercial centre of the village. Marieke and David are great hosts from welcome to farewell. Excellent breakfast and a choice of at least 4 Tavernas in the village square. We’ll be back…

The Carpenter's suite was a wonderful retreat for 6 nights in July 2022. David and Marike were helpful and welcoming. Breakfast was lovely, tasty and generous. Nice beaches near by (Agios Spiridon is perfect). The northern part of Corfu has a lot to offer, including nice hiking options.

No one can expect the feeling you get when you visit the village, the beautiful little square but what is more, the “Merchant’s House”. Marieke and David welcome you to a wonderful environment to stay, have a great breakfast and try the tasty local beer. Super clean and spacious room and the smile on owner’s face can’t leave you disappointed. Definitely a must in the north of Corfu
