Nestled in a quiet, picturesque part of the old city but only a few minutes gentle walk along level streets from the port, the Phaedra Hotel (class 4 stars) offers an intimate and charming atmosphere with rooms that have been sympathetically renovated to a very high standard ensuring superb comfort and convenience while retaining all the character of a bygone era.

Our stay at Phaedra Hotel on Hydra was so perfect that we decided to stay 3 extra days rather than visit any other islands. Phaedra offers a terrific home base for visiting this unique island. It is located a short walk from the port - far enough away to be quiet and close enough not to require a lot of uphill hiking when you simply want to go to one of the many shops and restaurants on the waterfront. Speaking of food, breakfast at Phaedra was one of the highlights of each day. It is served on a rooftop balcony and was truly bountiful. Each morning we had fresh juice, pastries and bread from the best local bakery, a homemade savory pastry, hard boiled eggs, tomatoes, feta, yogurt, local honey and homemade jams. Our room had its own balcony overlooking the cobblestone street with a view of the mountains in one direction and the port in the other. At night we could close the shutters and windows and enjoy a quiet rest. Others in our group chose to sleep with their windows open and woke to the sounds of the roosters, birds and local activity. The bed was comfortable and the room was well appointed with plenty of closet and drawer space and lots of hangers. We had a small kitchen stocked with water, an electric kettle and tea. There is a two burner stove and refrigerator if you choose to cook. The best part of staying at Phaedra is Hilda. She is warm and welcoming and was ready to help us with any special needs. She can arrange excursions, point you to the best restaurants and shops and help with drivers to and from the ferry and airport in Athens. If you have not been to Hydra before you are in for a treat. The lack of cars make it truly unique retreat from the noise and haste of modern life. We spent our days hiking the mountains, enjoying the water and just sitting still. The sunsets are also truly magical. If I could give this trip 6 stars I would. …

Our experience was over the top! 🌟 Hilda made us feel right at home. The accommodations were spectacular! The food was 5 star worthy! Her staff, Lena was always there to greet us with a smile and fresh towels. I met some beautiful people. I will be coming back. Thank you again Hilda 🌸🥰🤗

Beautiful hotel, benefiting from Hilda, who is a real character. We arrived and were offered a pastry. Rooms are very pleasant with comfortable bed and functioning bathrooms. Hilda provided good advice. Breakfast was lovely. We contacted her directly and she allowed 2 nights accommodation (min 3 on website). Location is excellent.

We had a wonderful stay at Phaedra. The owner, Hilda, could not be more hospitable and the facilities were great. Every morning her assistant, Lena, prepared our breakfast which was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble and we wished we had booked our whole stay in Hydra at Phaedra.

The hotel is very charming. We stayed in the ‘Electra’ room which is the most basic room in the property but very clean and has everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We like to sleep late and the owner Hilda was very accommodating with serving us breakfast in the reception room in the late morning, which meant a lot. The breakfast was perfect and the juice was delicious! We had fun chatting with Hilda! The hotel is very well located and has a lovely roof terrace for the use of guests. We would recommend the hotel for anyone wishing to visit Hydra.

We stayed at the Phaedra Hotel for 3 nights last month and I was glad to have started our trip around Greece by staying here first. It's always a bit tricky going to a country you've never been before and don't speak the language, but our innkeeper Hilda made our start seamless. Our flight out was three hours late taking off, but she had arrangements made for a driver, Manus (Manuel) to meet us at the airport in Athens and take us to the port. He took us there and also made sure we got the right ferry tickets we needed to get to Hydra. Perfect. The island was a picture-perfect delight to see when we got off the ferry, and happily, the hotel was not terribly difficult to find. We try to travel pretty light, so luggage was no issue. The room was on the first level and was large and clean. There was even a little covered kitchenette, but as I told Hilda, I wasn't there to cook, so it was nice, but not needed. Good AC since the weather was always in the 90's. The bed was a bit firm, but some folks are good with that. Every morning was a delight with breakfast served on the upper terrace. Fresh fruit, breads, yogurt, and Hilda always had some freshly baked goodies. Breakfast and the setting were a great way to start the day. The location was pretty easy walking from almost everything and yet just far enough to be quiet when the streets nearby were busy with people. Mark & I would sometimes go up to the terrace in the evening to quietly sit with a cocktail and enjoy the feeling of it all. Coming from New England as we do, we were also happily surprised that there were also no bugs bothering us during those evening cocktails. Lovely way to unwind and start our trip. Wish I could have gone full circle and come back for a few more days to finish it up. Hilda, thank you soo much for doing all you did to make this easy for us and our stay a delight.…

My husband and I had only a short time in Hydra, but after we arrived at the Phaedra Hotel we wished we had stayed longer. Hilda, the manager of the hotel, was welcoming and knowledgeable. Our room was charming and had all the amenities you might need. Not only was the hotel great but Hilda was also able to make any arrangement we might need. Please ask her if you have transportation questions because she will make it much easier for you to get from Hydra to the mainland. You’ll be thankful.

Lovely host, nice hotel, a little dated, in a great spot, fabulous breakfast, bed was comfortable and everything was clean, bathroom had a little mould in and above the shower, we were a couple and + one adult, family suite was better for a couple with children rather than 3 adults. We absolutely loved Hydra and would return again and stay here again, it was a lot more expensive than we had read about, we read it was 80 euro per night per room, we paid 950 euro for 4 nights early June 2022.

Location: 6/7 minute walk from port- Good ✔ Establishment: Traditional and quirky. Could use new bathrooms; however aircon in room which is a must. Cleanliness: Was clean and well taken care of Breakfast: Basic. Could do with a buffet- nice patio to have breakfast. Fresh fruit juices watered down. Staff/hospitality: We were accommodated for having missed our first night due to unforeseen circumstances and swapped the dates around for us. The staff are smiley and lady in charge/owner chatty SHOCK FACTOR: Never have I visited any accommodation around the world, mainly attracting couples; to have the owner try play matchmaker between her niece and my partner. She tried to show him pictures of her niece, analysed their family properties, praised him on his views she happened to listen in to whilst we were having breakfast; and totally disregarded his relationship (whilst he was alone paying for the room). I find this type of behaviour rude and at the very least unprofessional ; how disappointing!…
