Annette was so kind and friendly when we arrived. We got to pick our own pitch from the few remaining. The site was busy but not crazy and felt very calm and peaceful. Some clear rules were set out to maintain cleanliness eg shoe coverings in the bathroom areas. There was also a generous curfew on the children’s play equipment. This benefited everyone and we had no problems with it at all. All facilities were provided to the highest specifications. This included a complete kitchen with a full range of cooking equipment. We particularly liked the “from camper to camper” food donations and the variety of herbs, and vegetables that were being grown in the kitchen gardens. It felt great to be passing things on to avoid waste. There was lots of indoor and outdoor seating areas that were effectively and naturally divided using plants and flowers. The shower and toilet facilities were incredibly clean and very good quality. We loved the bread that was available to order daily. It was a great touch that there was a basket of samples that you could choose to select your bread as a non Danish speaker. We also liked the coffee that was made available for all guests on Sunday morning. We don’t know if this happens all of the time but it was great. The free live music on Saturday night and the improvised bar were welcome too. Our whole family really enjoyed it. It is only a few minutes walk from the site to a Hillerød town centre and Frederiksborg castle. We cycled to Frederiksborg so we could get around the extensive gardens too.

This isn’t just a good campsite, it’s an outstanding campsite and well worthy of all the plaudits previous reviewers have given it. We are a family of three travelling to Denmark with our reasonably old but renovated caravan to visit my son and daughter in law and my new grandson. On arrival we were met by the very friendly and welcoming mother of the daughter who owns the site who took us around the site in a golf buggy to pick our pitch. The site, whilst joined is on two sites being cut in half by a public footpath into Hillerød. This footpath provides very easy access to Hillerød via a small housing estate (5 minute walk or 2 minutes by bike). The terrain can be a little hilly so some kind of levelling device would be helpful but not essential. Our pitch had electricity, charged at 5 DKK per day, Water was 50 metres away and had wi-fi coverage through the campsite server, charged at 10 DKK for all of us for 7 days, although the site what’s 4G coverage in most if not all areas. At the entrance to the site is the reception which is also a small shop. This is set in one end of a building which has, facing the campsite, a paved frontage with tables and chairs for the use of campers to eat meals or simply chill and chat. At night time this area is lit up by lanterns and candles creating an incredibly relaxed environment. Go into the building and you’ll find a larger lounge/dining area with tables and chairs which very much resembles a restaurant although there is no restaurant. Instead, from this lounge area pass through a doorway into a large, very well appointed and extremely well kept kitchen where you will find all the facilities you need to prepare any meals you might choose whilst camping. You can then do all your washing up in the sinks in the kitchen. An absolutely fabulous idea, especially, but not exclusively, for those under canvas. Go through an external door to a courtyard at the rear and you’ll find the toilet/shower/ laundry facilities. All of which are beautifully presented, kept fastidiously clean and maintained to a very high standard. There’s even a limited selection of aftershaves in the gents showers should you wish to use them. From the shower facilities turn left and walk through the courtyard, again laid out with tables and chairs for dining and relaxing enhanced by the presence of a large number of plants, potted trees and, in the evenings, lanterns. Turn right and the courtyard continues back round to the reception. If you carry on walking ahead without turning right you come to another small area of the campsite which is set out on the edges of the children’s play area, adorned with all manner of things that kids love including a trampoline... This is a terrific site which has knocked my previous ‘best site’ into second place by some way. It has some amazing facilities and a wonderful atmosphere. It’s extremely convenient for Hillerød town without being affected by its proximity. At no point did I ever feel we were in the vicinity of a largish town. The efforts the family make and the lengths they go to to make you feel welcome are plain to see without being obtrusive. We’ve absolutely loved every minute of our stay here and would love to return. Thank you for making our stay so enjoyable.

We visited with our young family (2 young kids) for 5 days and we had a marvelous stay. We lodged in one of the recently built cabins. The cabins were quite luxurious, but its really the campsite itself that steals the show. Clean toilet buildings, immaculately maintained plots, a cosy communal centre with indoor and outdoor playground for kids, and most importantly of all; very friendly staff (fluent in Danish, English, German and Dutch). I cant remember ever having staid at such a good camping. They win the price for best camping in Denmark in 2019 and this really doesn't come as a surprise. Highly recommended!

Been to many campsites over the years and this has to be one of the best, from customer service and the welcome you get on arriving at the site. Annette and her team are just great. The site is just so well kept and the showers and toilets are the cleanest I’ve seen on any campsite. The site is just a 5 minute walk to the town centre and good coffee and the Castle is just behind the coffee shop. My only small point is having to pay for WiFi. But, that is a minor, minor point. My wife couldn’t believe the ladies had a selection of perfume in to use. It’s just a great site and we will recommend and use again. It’s only a 30 minute train journey to Copenhagen and the station is under a 10 minute walk again from the site. So, thanks Annette for a great stay.

We have been caravanning for over 25 years and have had a holiday in western Europe each year. Since retiring eleven years ago we have spent about eight weeks per holiday ( sometimes twice in a year) touring. We have been from Portugal in the west to Czech Republic in the east, from Scotland in the north to Slovenia in the south. This site is the nicest ever in every way. The owner and partner make you feel like friends, nothing is too much trouble. The shower block is immaculate. There is the most amazing large kitchen area for the use of campers. It is fully equipped with everything you could ever need, easily as good as your own kitchen at home. The area around the reception and shower complex has wooden garden tables and chairs surrounded by a profusion of wonderful plants - olive trees, lemon trees, bushes and shrubs as well as many fresh herbs which campers are welcome to help themselves to. Of an evening instead of the usual electric lamps there are lovely paraffin lamps which take me back to my childhood. Around the reception block itself are candles which give a cosy atmosphere. The cost of staying on a pitch at this site is 100kr per person low season/120kr high season, electric hook-up 13A 40kr low/45kr high season. We think that this site is worth every penny. It is also perfectly situated to catch the train to Copenhagen and to Helsingør. The rest of Sealand is worth seeing too. We would recommend this site without reservation. I'm not a person who writes lots of reviews but I am so impressed with this site I simply had to review Hillerød Camping because it is such a delightful site.
