This was my first stay in a hostel and I had a room for four people to myself.
I have to purchase pillow sheets and the town for the night breakfast with extra but the rooms overlooking water the man on the reception was fantastic he told me best place to go in eat local food and recommended local dish which was deep fried pork belly. He the showed me were to go and drink cheap beer in a bar which also was great

We were a family of 4 traveling and stayed here only 1 night.
The location of the hostel is great: right by the water and near the viking museum. Going into town is walking-distance, through the nice park, 10 minutes.

Staff was very friendly.
Breakfast was nice and yes, we could sit outside.

The room was spacious, with bathroom.

I would go again!

I had to spend a couple of nights in Roskilde, and there were not so many options where I could stay. I chose Danhostel. In my opinion, it is a very good hostel. But you should keep in mind that it is not a hotel. If you don't bring your own sheets and towels you can borrow them from the registration desk (quite cheap). The room I got was spacious and quite clean. The bathroom didn't include soap or shower gel - but I'd guess it's possible to purchase them from the registration desk as well if you forget to bring your own. The level of heating in the room could be easily adjusted - I think that's important - so I wasn't ever freezing there.

Sound isolation was rather poor and I could hear everything what's being said and done in the common corridor (my neighbors seemed to be really cheerful folks) :)

It was possible to have breakfast in the hostel for additional price. The breakfast was quite simple (juice, musli, sandwiches, coffee, tea, and such), but I think it was good overall.

The girl in the reception desk who met me was very helpful and friendly. It was a very good first impression of the place :) Unfortunately, I don't know her name.

Our room was dirty, something resembling snot smeared next to one of the beds. The pillows very old. The toilet seat was broken, we reported it, nothing was done. Black mold in the shower. Breakfast was disappointing on the last day, we were told that rundstykker would not be made available until all the bread was eaten. Not very service minded staff. One would think that after three months corona virus lock down, they would have used the time to clean and renovate their rooms, alas No!
On the positive great harbourside location, next to the Viking ship museum.
Recommend you bring your own pillows if you choose to stay.

The Hostel is one of the more modern designed versions and not basic at all. More three star hotel. Where it differs from a hotel is that you need to rent your bedding and towels. This is of course reflected in the price, which for Scandinavia is very good.

The rooms are very spacious, clean and contain everything you need for a couple of nights stay. No sharing a bathroom required!! Our room would have easily slept three on the bunk beds and single bed. The artwork painted on the walls, by the way, is quirky to say the least.

Its proximity to the fjord and the Viking Ship Museum is the reason we came. Both my wife and I have a very strong affinity for this place which we discovered on a previous visit and that feeling was still present. You must visit the museum if you come here.

After a couple of expensive lagers in a smoky bar in Roskilde we spent the rest of the evening looking out at the fjord and viking boats and speculating as to why so many people needed to visit the area on foot or by car even when it was dark? Still don't know the answer to this.

In the morning, after a good nights sleep, we had the hostel breakfast which, though limited in variety, was very good. We the headed back to Copenhagen.

The staff are helpful and friendly.

Very peaceful, very Viking and perfect. I really hope I can return one day.

I actually haven’t stayed at a hostel before. Had to make my bed as expected. But room was far nicer than I had anticipated, roomy, desk and chair, shower worked well and it was warm. Security was great with a key required for room and the building. The room was larger than a recent Ibis Hotel stay, check in and breakfast Staff were great. I’d recommend.

No-frills hostel in a great location if you want to hang about the harbour or visit the Viking museum.
There are fast-food outlets (hot dogs, cafe that also does pizzas), two icecream kiosks, one posh looking restaurant (didn’t try that!) and the shipmuseem cafe (which is lovely). There’s a garage that does a few bits but most of the shops are an easy 15 walk uphill through the park in Roskilde centre. You’re best to get a taxi back up the hill to get back to the station, unless travelling light!
Remember to hire a sheet and towel pack. The breakfast is 60 DK and simple but there’s lots of it (muesli, yoghurt, lots of fresh breads, cheese , jam and sausage/salami and those weird Danish thin-chocolate-slices-for-bread). Good coffee! The bunks are basic but comfy.

When I first planned to visit Roskilde, there was another hotel in town, but booking.com told me it was kaput, so I the only alternative I could find within walking distance of the train station was the Danhostel. Unfortunately, the hostel was about a mile from the train station, and the return trip was substantially uphill.

The reception folks were a mixed bag, one friendly, the other not. The room itself was decent sized, but poorly designed. The room was too warm because the windows cranked open only about 4 inches, so no cool air could come in. Parts of the hostel may have had elevator service, but the part I stayed in did not.

When adding the price of bedding and towels, the hostel was about the same price as a normal hotel in the area.

Me and two friends just spent three nights at Danhostel...and it was just as perfect as the other times we have been there. Location is excellent, just by the water, and it only takes a short walk up to Roskilde city. Staff is very nice and friendly and creates a good atmosphere - as always! : )
Breakfast and breakfast area is super and according to the weather it`s also possible to eat outside. Rooms are clean and nice.
I look forward to next time we will be staying at this hostel : )

I have low expectations of anything with "hostel" in its name, but this place is OK, more like a budget hotel. We had quite a large, en suite room to ourselves with several beds in it, including a double, but the hired bedlinen is only for single beds. You have to make up the beds when you arrive and strip them afterwards, and hire linen and towels unless you bring your own, but otherwise the experience is not so different from a hotel and the other guests are by no means all youth hostelling types. We saw a number of business travellers.

Niggles: poor lighting - had to get out of bed to turn off the main light because the reading lights were inadequate; few sockets; wifi isn't free; by the time you've paid for linen & towels plus wifi, it's not really any cheaper than a hotel; noisy all night because the Roskilde Festival was on (not the hostel's fault).

Good things: a reasonable breakfast (at extra cost); washing and drying machines available (again, extra cost); a kitchen for guests' use; a good location on the fjord with restaurants and the Viking ship museum nearby.
