My visit was to their spa was wonderful. I highly recommend Camp Ripan: Aurora Spa. Everyone that I interacted with was patient, polite, professional, and personable. I arrived an hour before my massage appointment and used the spa. The pools, hot tub, and saunas are a great way to unwind after all of the different activities. My massage was nice and relaxing. In fact, if it was any longer I would have fallen asleep. I also used the spa services before I left. I will visit again next time I come back to Kiruna.

Hotel's Favourite
We stayed here over Christmas with a booking through Nordic Visitor. Check-in was easy, but the person gave us a card when our cabin actually needed a key and our cabin was very close to the end, so a bit of a haul back and forth in the cold when we first got there. The cabin was good for us three adults. There is one main room with the main bed, small kitchen, and table and chairs with a separate room for the bunk beds. The mudroom when you first enter was great for the winter clothes, especially the drying cabinet! There was no cleaning service unless you asked, which we didn't need so we were fine with it. Breakfast had an excellent selection which we really enjoyed! Dinner service was a bit slow, but they did warn us one night when it was extra delayed which was appreciated. The menu is the same every night, which we knew going in and planned accordingly. We loved the spa!! We did some sledding as well and borrowed sleds from Camp Ripan, but larger sleds probably would have made the experience much better haha. We ran into an issue with one of our tours - seems like poor communication between the travel agent and hotel - and the man working at the Front Desk was so great about it. The tour guide called her mom to drive us (so sweet!) and the hotel said they would reach out to the travel agent for us to make sure we were set for the rest of the day. The travel agent called us to check in too, but it was great knowing that Camp Ripan was able to help as well. We didn't walk into town or even see where town was because of all of the tours we had booked. If we had more time, we probably would have since there wasn't a ton to do otherwise. Camp Ripan had scheduled some things for us, like dinner times and thankfully they were flexible that we could move it fairly easily - just ask! Highly recommend a stay here and to take advantage of the activities in the area!

We stayed here for two nights. Camp Ripan is located a little way from the old Centre of Kiruna and there are blocks of flats on one side (not a complete snowy hideaway if this is what you want). The cabin Giron was fine, ok for maximum of 3, it would feel cramped for 4 adults. There is a very small separate bedroom with bunkbeds which would be ok for smaller children. The other “room” comprises the kitchen/dining area and a double bed. There is a microwave/small hob and tiny kettle. Crockery/cutlery are provided. There is no clothes drying room, but it was warm inside. The bathroom was a little tired, water pressure is good, and a nice range of shower gel/shampoo and conditioner are provided. Shame the rooms have no sauna inside or a drying room/cabinet for winter clothes. The dinner was lovely, the bar staff as other reviewers have said seem inexperienced and it is pot luck as to whether you are served quickly or not. The breakfast was fine, but busy so restocking was an issue unless you asked. The reception staff were helpful but check in was quite slow, the weekday reception staff are more experienced than the weekend ones. The reception area is fine to sit in for 10 minutes or so, it is not that big. There is a nice upstairs room with chairs/board games and books, worth a look to relax in. There is a fire outside so bring marshmallows to roast (we could not find these in the local supermarket)! Sledges are available to use inside. There are many organised activities to do to fill the day, and some sign posted hikes. The spa looked ok (it does cost extra), I personally feel if you are staying at the hotel it should be included but bookable to avoid overcrowding. There is a small ski slope nearby. There are 2 supermarkets (Coop & Ika) each within a 10 minute walk. The main new centre of Kiruna is further away. All in all, Camp Ripan is ok, not luxurious but fine for a few days.

We loved our stay at Camp Ripon. No complaints. Plenty to do there. It would have been nice to have been told on arrival that ice skating, sledging were fun activities to do and readily available. Coop very close by to collect provisions. Gorgeous food. Make sure you arrive before 9:30pm if you want a nightcap. We arrived at 9:45 and they were reluctant and forget having a hot drink after a late night stroll. Stunning sunrise. Weather dependent obviously.

They have good range of winter sports equipment equipment to rent which are priced very reasonable, even if you're not a hotel guest. Very warm and cosy facilities too, with a range of activities to do on site. Good parking infrastructure if you're arriving by car

There are a lot of positives re Camp Ripan, the spa is pretty cool and the facilities are good in general. We liked our cabins, as a couple we’d booked one that would fit a family of 4. There are good walking trails nearby. However, service at the front desk was cold and officious. It was made very clear that check-out time would be 11am - this was delivered in a way that felt like I’d just been told off. It was very weird. Service at the restaurant was slow and we got a sense that there’s a big turnover of staff who are unfamiliar with the payment system, so even settling our bills took some time. While we enjoyed the spa, foreigners unfamiliar with Swedish spa processes were left to their own devices to try and navigate the various steps. No clear instructions were given that guests had to go up to staff for the coffee/chocolate face masks, the foot massage stones or the birch scrubs. So that was a little frustrating. Still, we enjoyed our time there.

We stayed as a couple in early January 2024 in a cabin at Camp Ripan. We experienced temperatures from -40C to -5C during our 4 night stay. The cabins were clean and comfortable and warm. The showers were hot and pressure was excellent! We are from Australia, and have never seen or experienced temperatures or even snow like this. The cabins are located away from reception, and I did wonder beforehand whether that would be difficult with luggage. However, the camp is well kept with cleared paths and lots of lights. Easy to walk around with or without luggage! The camp is located on the edge of town but you still get the town lights, ski hill lights and hotel lights. We were able to walk to town easily, if that is what you want to do. We easily walked in -30C to town to get bus to ice hotel (which takes about 30 mins on the bus). You could do it with luggage to get the bus to the airport, but not our preference! The dinner at the restaurant was fantastic food and friendly service - recommend at least once during your stay. Breakfast buffet was included and there was good variety. It was disappointing that there is little variety or option for lunch onsite - if you are out on a morning tour and get dropped back, you will be lucky to be able to have some crisps or some dried reindeer. Shame they don't sell simple lunch soups or chips. But the hot chocolates are great :) We liked the fact that not being in the same building as the reception/restaurant it forced you to walk outside and acclimatise and enjoy the surroundings. It was great watching people use the sledding hill and we enjoyed our spa experience (although almost impossible to get other spa treatments like massages - so difficult to book!). We were fortunate to see the northern lights on site at the camp on 2 out of 4 nights - once from our cabin and once up on the walking trail late at night. However, definitely recommend a formal tour as the views are much stronger out of town with no light pollution from camp or town. We would stay here again - it is clean, comfortable and the location on the edge of town is good.

The hotel is made up of cabins spread over the property. The cabins are very nice, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast is excellent. My only complaint is there is that the bar service is very scant. I basically had to beg the people who are also waiting tables in the restaurant to serve me a drink from the bar. None of the employees felt it was their responsibility to serve the bar.

Poisitives - The place is in a great location - Breakfast was good - Free sleigh to borrow is great Negatives - I spent over £5,00 to be there a week for being told in the spa that I had been undercharged for ice cream for my children 3 days earlier (which I had not and I showed the lady my phone with the charge. I thought it was unprofessional and unpleasant - today I just found that unknown to me they charged my card twice (through booking.com) for the Spa, which I had paid in September 2023. I know when I visited the spa, they told me that I needed to pay and I explained that I had paid with the other activities. They did not say a thing but unknown to me charged my card for about £300, which I am now contesting. What a shame as it really spoiled the place for us and we will not be back.
