The Grand Hotel is where my grandparents would stay. This hip spot just next door offers all the glamour (including views of the Palace) with a much more updated cooler crowd. You also get a discount at the Nordic Spa at the Grand next door, which even has a discrete entrance basically next to the Lydmar. CECELIA! You did NOT break my heart, she's the charming front desk staffer who the last few visits helped me out with welcoming my family for a reunion dinner and hooked me up with an UNREAL room upgrade with a panoramic view of two harbors, the National Museum and even the Palace. It was such a nice return to the hotel when on arrival Cecelia remembered me from my last stay. This place feels like home in Stockholm with the most convenient location, easy access to nearby Djurgarden, all the harbor ferries, the best museums, great dining and culture. They even went the extra mile to help me try and get tickets to an opera that ended up being cancelled (damn you Covid!) and did their utmost to help out with all sorts of recommendations. There are more modern lux hotels like the AtSix (which is sexy but almost too sexy), and there are places a little closer to town like the Nobis (but price wise I think you get so much more bang for the buck, especially considering the generously sized rooms at the Lydmar), which is great because you can still just pop over there to enjoy a drink and come home to a hotel knowing you've got the best room in Stockholm at the coolest spot in town.

We were spending a week in Stockholm so finding the right hotel was important. We thought about others, including the Grand Hotel, but decided to stay at the Lydmar, just next door. We were absolutely delighted with our choice. The location is perfect, directly opposite the Royal Palace and right in front of the quay from where many ferries and tourist boats depart. It’s only a short walk to many of the main attractions, museums, shops and restaurants. Our room was fairly large and, like the whole hotel, kitted out with comfortable sofas and interesting artwork. The temperature was well controlled despite it being very hot outside too. The bathroom was good, with all the usual amenities. Breakfast was what we needed - a good choice at the buffet, including nicely ripe fresh fruit, and the ability to order one dish a la carte included in the rate. I’d recommend the waffle with blueberry jam, but add strawberries, maple syrup and whipped cream from the buffet. No need for lunch after that. Finally, even though all of this made the Lydmar a great choice, the thing which really sealed the deal was the staff. Without exception, they were so friendly and helpful. I’d like to take them all to our next hotel!

This is a 5 star boutique hotel. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the beds were extremely comfortable, high ceilings provided a sense of grandeur and the bathroom was complete with everything one needs including tissues which no other places we stayed provided. The windows are dual double paned (probably for cold weather), resulting in keeping outside noise to a minimum. Each floor offers a nice sitting area and is decorated with unique photos, each telling a story. The staff was equally friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was outstanding. Evening dining was equally delightful.

A beautiful hotel in a great location overlooking the Royal Palace opposite. The staff were very friendly and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was plentiful and a great selection of items on offer. We also ordered room service one evening and ate in the restaurant on another occasion and the food was delicious each time. The room was spotlessly clean with a very generous shower room (which was almost the size of the bedroom) and the bed was extremely comfortable.
The only problem was that our room faced another hotel opposite and we had to keep our curtains closed, so not to be overlooked by the windows opposite, which meant that the room was dark even in daylight hours. This was also the case for the bathroom. By simply placing some sheer curtains/voiles/ nets at the window behind the curtains would have rectified this, which we have seen in lots of hotels that we have previously stayed at. Other than this small issue, we had a great stay at the Lydmar and would definitely recommend it to others.

We couldn't decide between staying at The Lydmar and the Grand Hotel next door, so we chose both for 3 nights apiece. They are literally next door to one another and share an incredible location with harbor views. We learned that both hotels share the same owner. The Lydmar is definitely the young, hip, artsy sister to the Grand. The room was cozy and on the smaller side (we booked the entry-level price room), but still very well-appointed and comfortable, full of fun and funky art. The staff here really shines. They are fun friendly and professional. The lobby bar and restaurant are bustling and offer delicious food and cocktails. The breakfast buffet in the morning is wonderful, with a HUGE selection of hot and cold items, and the staff makes wonderful coffees. If you are looking for a younger, hipper scene, this is the place to stay!

Wow! This hotel is amazing! From the quirky art works and amazing photography to the brilliant friendly staff and super comfy beds!
We stayed with our 10&7 yr olds (the hotel
Has some interconnecting rooms) and they were made to feel very welcome.
We loved all the decor - this is a superbly decorated and well thought out boutique hotel. The breakfast was great - and they made a mean Bloody Mary too! Perfect!
Location wise it’s minutes from the main shopping areas and right on the waterfront so beautiful views too.
Would highly recommend this hotel. We can’t wait to come back!

Lydmar Hotel is centrally located, in front of the harbour and walking distance from Gamla Stan and most of the Stockholm highlights.
Welcome was fluid yet somehow standard.
I have stayed in this hotel several times and would have expected some more generous and less ‘standardised’ (hello, welcome, can I have your ID and CC) welcoming.
The building is great, with exceptional design and many nice and cosy public corners and rooms. They have a great bar/restaurant and two terraces, one at the ground floor and one at restaurant level, where often the ‘beautiful crowd’ from Stockholm hangs out. It can get crowded and sometimes a bit noisy.
I got the type of room I had booked, no upgrade, neither any special attention. Compared to the rooms where I stayed before, this one was the least attractive and hence gave me a bit of a disappointing feeling.
The room was comfortable though.
The bathroom was quite small, with a bathtub-shower (I don’t like to have to step in a bath to take a shower), and toilet in the bathroom. Which I find quite a downer for the price one pays for the night.
I had dinner in the restaurant and most enjoyed it, because of the great warm service, and the excellent food.
I also had breakfast, served in buffet style, in the restaurant (with nice outside views). Very good. Choices are not huge, but quite enough to start a day with good vibes.
The hotel is a good place to enjoy Stockholm.
Prices are (kind of too) expensive.

Dear Olivier, Thank you very much for your warming words regarding your stay! Indeed, Lydmar is well located within walking distance to all main attractions in Stockholm and the Terrace & Patio is a great place for sun soakers and music lovers. We are terribly sorry you did not feel acknowledged during your welcome. We do hope that you were able to express your concerns regarding the bathroom and that the room itself did not meet your expectations this time so we had a chance to make things right. Please contact us directly the next time you'd like to book a room with us and we will make sure to make your stay memorable! Kind Regards, Cecilia Björklund Sales & Marketing Manager

We loved our stay at the Lydmar! It's a great hotel for discovering Stockholm as you can pretty much walk to everything.

The hotel is very well designed with funky furniture, quirky and interesting art and design pieces, the rooms are lovely with comfortable beds - a must in my book! Each floor has it's own lounge, it's a very smart and chic hotel which is kept beautifully clean.

A hotel is only as good as the people who work there and the team are excellent! Nothing is too much trouble, they are really helpful, courteous and polite - special mention to Carl and Cecilia on reception who booked, restaurants and trips for us and were there to offer advice on great recommendations of things to do, how to get there, where to eat.. The restaurant team are also very friendly and the breakfast will set you up for the day!

We will definitely go back to Stockholm again and the Lydmar is where we will stay!

Right from the start. the friendly staff made us and our little dog feel very welcome. The suite was beautiful, with an eclectic mix of selected curiosities and modern photo art . The bed was excellent, and we can recommend ordering breakfast to the room - a private breakfast buffet with probably the best scrambled eggs we ever had. The hotel is owned by Grand Hôtel, and you can get spa treatments there if you wish.

Hi we had no problems at all with noise. Our room was on the bar side of the hotel. The outside bar gets quite busy in the summer but shuts on time. If you have concerns the hotel will no doubt put you in a room well away from those outside bar.

We stayed there at the end of June for 4 nights with the nightlife and disco in full swing and didn't hear a sound at night once we returned to our room. The location is fabulous for touring the city and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the hotel.

There is a Nespresso espresso machine in the room with pods restocked daily. There was no charge for this on our bill, so I assume it is included in the room rate.
