If you would try and mark the ideal spot of a hotel in Stockholm, you'll probably hit a spot no more than 10 meters away from the Lord Nelson. the hotel is located right in the middle of Gamla Stan, Stockholm's old city, connecting all it's boroughs and attractions. the hotel itself is more like a marine museum: bursting with...

Pros - Location was awesome. In the heart of old town and away from all the business of the city center. The staff were friendly and helpful. Although light, a complimentary breakfast was included which was unexpected and nice. Cons - The hotel is older, therefore the rooms are 100% dated and not as crisp and clean as a modern...

Before arriving in Sweden from Australia I had been "falsely" advised by others that Swedes were cold, snobby, unwelcoming and that it would be difficult to find "good service" particularly if you were a tourist compared with a local. Arriving my first day in Sweden I stepped into this hotel after asking the taxi driver his opinion of a good...

Very good location in Gamla Stan which unfortunately meant loud noises from constructing etc early in the morning. Pretty worn down interior. Very hard bed. Basically no heat in the bathroom making it very uncomfortable to take a shower.

Quaint, narrow and long hotel squeezed into the delightful streets of the old part of Stockholm. I was here on business, but knew I had a few hours on Saturday to see the interesting parts of Stockholm and this was an ideal base. Interesting decor in the room I was in including a newspaper cutting from the London Times reporting...

This is a fun little hotel in the center of Stockholm old town. Everything is close by or easily reachable by public transport (5 minute walk). The rooms are really, really tiny. I had a single room, which had a 90cm bed, a desk and a small bathroom, with absolutely no room to move. Still, it was very nicely decorated...

I was a bit taken back at first. The room was smaller than I expected. However I quickly realized it had everything I needed. A nice bathroom, a comfortable bed and a desk. I realizes it was perfect. The hotel boasts being the narrowest in Sweden, just six meters wide. It is however huge in all other ways. It is...

Stayed for 4 nights. This hotel is in a perfect position to explore both the old and new towns, positioned in the heart of the old town. Rooms are lovely and clean. The hotel staff where very helpful and the free continental breakfast was lovely. A really great hotel which I would highly recommend.

The Lord Nelson Hotel as you would expect has a nautical theme and is full of atmosphere and charm. The hotel is situated on Vaesterlaanggatan which is right in the heart of Gamla Stan/Old Town. I stayed in a single room (room 28) and it was perfect for my needs. Everything was clean and well presented. The staff were welcoming...

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighbourhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Lord Nelson Hotel is an intimate, friendly and pleasant hotel right in the heart of Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s Old Town. You find the hotel on the main street, close to the city centre and all the capital’s sights and attractions. But the hotel itself is also an attraction, as it contains a unique, private collection of maritime antiques – passionately gathered through the decades by the owner family Bengtsson. All rooms have been designed and decorated to resemble cabins on a ship. The building dates from the 17th century and at just under six metres wide, this property is undoubtedly Sweden’s narrowest hotel. In the Summer time the hotel guests can enjoy a Beautiful view on Poop Deck, the roof top terrace. The Continental Breakfast has an organic a fairtrade profile, and the hotel offers free coffe and tea service in the library on the first floor. ... more   less
