Malardrottningen, or what the ship is really called: Lady Hutton, began its journey in 1924 and no one knows where or when it ends. With its amazing history, she has managed to take care of Barbara Hutton, the British Navy, traveled around the world and since 1982 moored at Riddarholms Quay. The yacht has 61 cabins, sauna, restaurant and is perhaps best known for the latter. The restaurant with the beautiful view of Malaren, serves Scandinavian dishes using only the best ingredients.

The location of the Hotel is great, directly in Gamla Stan, you only need around 5-10 minutes to reach every important location in the old town by foot. The ship as hotel in itself is beautiful and a great experience. The staff is extremely friendly and competent. The Ship is, after all, still a ship, so not 100% fixed. At the beginning it was a weird feeling, but you get used to it really fast, so no worries.

My best friend and I decided to visit Stockholm over Sylvester for a week and we chose this particular hotel on booking.com since it has been reviewed positively almost exclusively. The double room (bunk beds) was adequately sized for both of us with a somewhat small but sufficient bathroom. As the hotel has been a "real" private Yacht its decor and structure were authentic to a T. It is located directly west to Gamla Stan, the old part of town (Parliament, castle) and right in between the south party of town (södermalm) and the centre/ north part (norrmalm) allowing access by foot in all directions.
The breakfast buffet featured a good variety, although its sortiment was unchanging. The hotel offered a sauna free of charge, which was a great bonus. The staff was most competent and friendly, approachable at any time of day or night to tend to our wishes p.e. boiled water, plates and cutlery long after the restaurant has been closed, a detailed description to the airport etc.
We can wholeheratedly recommend this hotel to anyone!

To Stockholm, I traveled with my teenage daughter. We chose the cheapest option, so we got a rather small room with a very tiny bathroom. Nevertheless, we were very satisfied with our stay as there was everything we needed, even a hairdryer. First, we were a bit afraid that the room would be cold in January there, but the room was heated well, and the temperature was just right also at night. We could feel the movements of the yacht on the water, which was relaxing in the evening but a bit uncomfortable in the morning. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Good breakfast. Great location at the historical center on Gamla Stan, just 10 minutes walk from a tube station.

Stayed here for four nights in October 2021 with my husband and two children. We got two cabins next to each other with a view of the sea. One room was an ok size with room enough to breathe while the other room was very tiny and barely had enough room to turn around without going out in the hall. Had both rooms been so tiny we would have gone somewhere else, as it would become really claustrophic! The kids slept in the smaller room and we spent time together in the lounge or in the larger room, so it didn't become a problem for us.

Bear in mind that the ventilation is really noisy and goes on all the time, so bring ear plugs! Also, the windows are the original ones, and they are not isolated and very drafty! We had to isolate the window in the kid's room with blankets to they wouldn't freeze in the night! Bring warm pyjamas!

The beds were bunk beds, so if you have a problem with climbing a ladder to get to bed, don't book here! The mattresses, pillows and comforters were really great, and it was nice to visit a hotel with extra length comforters!

The bathrooms were ok, but again - the one in the smaller room was tiny and claustrophic. The one in the larger room was fine and clean. However, the drinking glasses weren't clean (one of them had a nasty brown stain on the bottom of it - and during our stay it was moved from the room to the bathroom - clearly the maid just dried it off and placed it somewhere else in the room!) Besides that, everything seemed clean.

Breakfast was ok, lots of spreads, butter, cheeses, youghurts, sausages, eggs, pancakes etc. However, the bread was the worst I have ever had! Never have I had bread so stale and dry served at a hotel! It may be a Swedish thing, but I've traveled the world and never tried that before. Orange juice and coffee ran out all the time, but the staff were quick to refill at once.

Reception was fine, and the staff were friendly and helpful. It would have been nice to be able to get some coffee or tea at the reception since the boat is situated quite a walk from the cafes of Gamla Stan.

The boat itself was wonderful! It was very interesting to read the old news paper articles and see the old pictures of the former owner on the walls, and it was charming that there were so many old detalils everywhere.

The restaurant or bar weren't open during our stay, and the nearest cafes are situated at least 10 minutes by foot away, keep that in mind when booking.

I don't think we'll be staying here again, but it was a fun experience staying at an old boat.

This is my second stay here and it’s fantastic. It’s quirky to stay on a boat and the location right near the old town is brilliant.

The staff are so friendly and helpful, the breakfast is great too.

We had the Owners Cabin which has its own outside area which is brilliant even in winter. The room also has a little area to make tea and coffee and has glasses, plates etc and a fridge.

Bear in mind that as it’s on a boat space is at a premium so don’t expect a huge bathroom, the toilet / sink / shower is all in one wet room so bear in mind. Didn’t bother me at all. The lovely atmosphere of the boat far outweighs the small bathroom!

This yacht hotel is comfortable, warm, cosy and is great value as breakfast is included. It’s in a great location as under a 5 minute walk from The Old Town and a 20 minute walk from the Central bus/train station. We were grateful for the early check in and upgrade to the Stavsalongen room. The room was beautifully atmospheric with wooden panelling, comfortable twin beds, a desk, table and chairs, storage for clothing, extra heaters and the en-suite was functional. There were high portholes allowing natural light in but no view. The room and all areas in the yacht were clean, neat and tidy. We found the staff all polite and pleasant. The buffet breakfast is superb with hot/cold drinks, cereals, bacon, scrambled egg, baked beans, pancakes, muffins which set us up for the day and is served in a room overlooking the harbour. There is a free sauna on board and a 1 hour notice is needed to use it. We would highly recommend this floating hotel especially for value and location

I only stayed for one night in this hotel and I really enjoyed it. It is a very moderately priced hotel that is very central to all things touristy in Stockholm. Be aware that the rooms are pretty small... it is in the end cabins on a boat where space is rare.
I will be back for my next, hopefully longer stay in Stockholm.

We stayed in the owners cabin. Please be aware that this cabin is at the top of two very narrow staircases which are pretty steep. Also, the bathroom is not what is pictured on their website. Basically you can sit on the toilet and shower, plus remember to remove the toilet paper before showering or it will get soaked. Other than those things we loved the uniqueness of the hotel and the location was amazing. We walked thru old town every night where there are great stores and restaurants.

My husband and I stayed at the Malardrottningen Yacht Hotel & Restaurant for several days, and we loved every moment. Its location is ideal, close to Gamla Stan, shopping and major attractions. The front desk and housekeeping staff were courteous and helpful, going above and beyond to ensure that our stay was memorable. The accommodations were very clean and comfortable. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of cold and hot foods. We dined twice at the restaurant for dinner, and enjoyed the Swedish meatballs and entrecote. A complimentary sauna and well-equipped ironing room are available to guests. We had an early morning flight, and the staff efficiently arranged a taxi and breakfast boxes. We intend to be repeat guests on our next visit to Stockholm. Thank you to the staff, especially Toby, for a wonderful stay.

Malardrottningen Yacht Hotel & Restaurant is situated in a splendid position both for the view of the bay and for the sight of the old town; easily accessible by public transport from the train station. It offers a particular environment different from the usual hotels that we found pleasant. The restaurant is not bad and a large breakfast is served in the morning. In our opinion the quality / price ratio is more than satisfactory and if I return to Stockholm I would choose this location again.

Absolutely no dorm-style on this boat. I see that some of the rooms have one bed above the other. Always best to contact the hotel for clarification.

I don’t think they have any traditional shared rooms. My guess is that it will be bunk beds rather than a double bed. But as others have said it can’t hurt to ask them directly.

I would reach out direct to the hotel for questions about their services. This group is travelers who have stayed at this hotel. Personally, I took the train and then walked to the hotel.
