Lovely hotel with amazing staff! Front of house manager was so friendly and helpful on check in. Our room was lovely with a really comfy bed, good breakfast and all staff were great. Would definitely stay here again the next time we are in Stockholm.

Perfectly situated in trendy Södermalm at a lively little park and only a few stops with bus or subway from the city centre.
About twenty years of age, but very well maintained. Only signs of decay was the dull desk chair replacing the original (and promised) chair by Gunnar Asplund and the strange power socket arrangement for the ceiling lamp resulting in a gap in the curtain (and sun in the eyes waking me up too early).

Reception was efficient and friendly. All important information given at check-in and no fuzz at check-out. Overall, the staff is friendly and attentive. For instance a cleaner volunteered to follow me to our room and open the door for me when I was carrying some coffee and ice from the coffee station. Cheers and smiles from all people in this place.

We had the upgraded de luxe room and it is highly recommended. Wonderful, spacious bathroom with both bath and a separate shower. Marble and quality in all details. The same goes for the room itself with great bed, bed linens, pillows, furniture, floor, carpet... Fantastic closets big enough to store clothes for a full week’s stay. Caring details like an ironing board and iron, umbrella and shoe horn, bathrobes and slippers. Complimentary mineral water at bed turndown. A really well equipped minibar with six half bottles of wine (red, white, sparkling) and an extensive room service menu in addition. Now in Covid times they even offer guests to bring a drink and snacks tray to the room and only charge what is consumed.

Generous opening hours for the buffet breakfast that was offering anything you could ask for and some fun, unusual additions to standard stuff. Amazing bread, scramble, cold cuts and an egg chef happily cooking you that perfect omelette.

You will not be disappointed here.

This is a very unique boutique hotel! I give it my highest recommendations. Everything was just fantastic! Richard and his staff at the front desk was genuine friendly and very service minded. Arranged everything and went above and beyond to make sure my stay was as pleasant as possible. I stayed for 10 nights and it felt I met a new family! Their cleaning routine felt very rigid and safe. They disinfected my entire room several times during my stay. The room was bright and the balcony was just fantastic to enjoy my breakfast on in the mornings. The bed was very comfortable. The valet parking made it easy if you have a car since finding parking in Stockholm is not always an easy task. The hotel's location is very convenient, I could walk everywhere. At checkout I even got 2 gifts.

Excellent one week stay at RIVAL. I valued the AC in the Stockholm heat. Also great not to have room cleaning stress; no door knockings, nor noise. Breakfast great as always. The buffet and the included menu choices are top quality. This summer opening hours were also great from 07.00 to 11.30 It gave you the choice of either making early visits or sleeping in. The bed and its trillion of pillows were very comfortable. I have been coming here for 15 years and I find it great that the initial, very simple, design of the rooms still is so functional within a small space. At that time tiny was not cool and the choices made were bold. Having free, real , coffee and tea served around the clock on the 4th floor is really a plus. Some fruit offerings would be very welcome! The location is the best setting in Stockholm if you don't want to feel as tourist and just enjoy very privileged urban Stockholm life, where nature is never far!

Upon entering Hotel Rival, the vibrant colours used for its interiors already cheered me up! It is clean and stylish; but not luxurious. The staff are friendly.

The hotel also has a theatre so the bar was busy with hipsters every night before a show. The place is very happening.

The hotel is not located right in the city center but is close enough to make must-go destination walkable. It is 15 minutes walk away from Gamla Stan and the ferry pier to all the museums. The walk was manageable in winter so I can imagine what lovely walks they could be in summer time.

Around the corner of the hotel is a cafe that serves fresh semlas; delicious!

The hotel is walkable from the good party areas of Stockholm. It also has a bar on the ground floor which keeps this place lively. The rooms are smaller and is not really value for money but I guess most places in Stockholm are the same. Everything is based on movies and a plus is the music and movie dvds that you get free of cost to watch in your rooms and to top it all a very welcoming staff.

Sodermalm was not our first choice of area but now I'm really glad we stayed there. Online sites had suggested staying in the Gamla Stan area but none of the most recommended hotels were available anymore when we booked, so Sodermalm seemed like a good alternative. We didn't even end up going to Gamla Stan until our last day and while there is some cool stuff there (e.g., the Royal Palace) and we did get some shopping done, Sodermalm was so much nicer overall. We found great restaurants in Sodermalm, and it was *much* quieter and less touristy. If you want a Burger King and to load up on waffle cones and buy trinkets, Gamla Stan is your place. We wanted something quieter, less touristy, but still with great restaurants and access to public transport. And we got that in Sodermalm.

As for the hotel itself, we had a Deluxe room with a view of the park and it was very comfortable. The pan showerhead was a luxury for us Californians :-). The front desk was very helpful several times, like when we needed to find a covid test or needed restaurant suggestions/reservations. Breakfast had a lot of options. We were there for 6 nights and this is one of a very few places we've stayed where I did not get bored with breakfast. We ate in the on-site restaurant a couple times too, which was also very good. Like most restaurants we encountered in Stockholm, you'll likely need reservations. Although we did use the red-line at least once, for many things (like access to the boat terminals) it's easier to just walk down the street.

In short, Hotel Rival is a great choice if you want to stay in Sodermalm. We loved the area, the hotel itself, and the people that work there.

Just enjoyed a weekend break at Hotel Rival and I have to say that I was really delighted. Quite a decent price, really well located to walk/ferry to some of the main tourist attractions, new and nicely appointed and very friendly staff. There are a few bakeries nearby to indulge in Fika too. Pretty much all you could ask for and a few things you wouldn't expect (extensive pillow menu, movies and music in the rooms).

If I had any gripes, the rooms were very hot but you could open the windows to address that. Breakfast was served as a buffet which is unusual in these times of Covid but sanitiser bottles were present to help mitigate those risks.

Overall though, I was impressed and will return.

This boutique hotel with 99 rooms was founded in September 2003 at Mariatorget in Södermalm. It was our first time visiting this trendy hotel owned by ABBA's Benny Andersson.

The hotel is highly rated and so very popular. The prices are quite high starting from nearly 300 euros for standard rooms.

We booked a Deluxe Balcony room with a Date Night Package which included one night stay, a bottle of sparkling wine, a three-course dinner, breakfast buffet, and late checkout (2 PM). The price was 460 euros and had better value than booking the room without the package for 90 euros less.

The room was spacious and the balcony was nice despite the views being mainly trees from the 4th floor. You could hear the fountain behind the trees but not see it.

Luckily, we got our room on the 4th floor. There are no coffee-making facilities in the room but a coffee station on the 4th floor. We had just 10 meters there and it was easy to fetch our morning coffee.

The breakfast had a good selection of high-quality food. There was even sparkling wine which is very rare at Scandinavian hotels.

Our dinner was okay but not so enjoyable that we would book it again. Only the main courses were tasty.

The service was very friendly everywhere.

Hotel Rival is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed at!! From our first day we were greeted like old friends and treated so wonderful. The front desk staff were so welcoming, especially Rickard. He helped us find all the best places to see, eat, and drink. And his recommendations were perfect!! The bed and pillows are so comfortable and the shower makes you never want to leave. Everything was so clean. We definitely enjoyed the top notch breakfast every morning and the coffee and biscuits before heading out for the evening on the 4th floor. They even supply dairy free milk ❤️ It’s located just a block away from the subway so super convenient if you don’t want to walk everywhere. Although we highly suggest the walks. The bar staff downstairs is also wonderful and after one night having a drink they were waving to us any time we walked by. This place is an absolute gem and if I’m back in Stockholm I wouldn’t stay anywhere but here. ❤️

Hi are you near the main train station.
Answer from MarkHud
London, United Kingdom49 contributions68 helpful votes
The Arlanda Express & Tunnelbana journey is often faster than a taxi and is quite pleasant - as long as you don’t have a lot of luggage. The interchange at Central Station is a fairly long walk and although there are lifts at every point, there are often queues for these. The cost is about half of a taxi IIRC, and the cheapest single Tunnelbana ticket suffices (Mariatorget is only 3 stops from Central). Metro trains are quite luggage friendly and not super crowded except at real peak commute times. So worth considering. Mariatorget station also has a lift - a rather fun funicular style one. Again IIRC, the back of the outbound train is nearest the lift for the Rival. Final note: it’s surprisingly easy to lose your way in Central Station - watch the signs carefully and in particular, you need to look for Fruängen & Norsborg which are the final stations on the branches of the line passing through Mariatorget.

Hello 477bradp! The room safe is 14" wide, 14" deep and 8½" high. It wouldn't fit in the safe lying flat, but will fit at an angle, as long as the depth works.

Hi Closest airport is Bromma but it is mostly for domestic flights, Arlanda Airport is the closest International Airport. You can find all ways to get to and from Hotel Rival on our website. Under "About us" and "Find the Rival Hotel". Sorry I cant send url links in this forum. Please dont hesitate should there be anything else. /Jesper Sandberg
