An Eco Sensitive resort with self-contained canvas eco cottages, each with an ocean view terrance. We are located in the St. Thomas Harbor, on a pristine 500-acre island, Water Island, which has regular ferry service (10 min. boat ride) to St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. Each cabin has pillow top mattresses, all 100% cotton linens (including beach towels), an outdoor cooking pavilion with an ocean view and the property is only 5 minute walk to the beach.

My first trip to Virgin Islands Campground on Water Island was Christmas, 2007. This past Christmas, I returned for my 20th visit, and the magic that I serendipitously found so many years ago has continued and thrived all these years. I am an avid traveler, but always find my

Going in we were expecting a good experience based on other positive reviews and it did not disappoint. First you need to understand that this is a camping experience, with shared bathrooms and kitchen facilities. This is not a resort situation where everything is available on

Very peaceful place to relax and enjoy the surrounding beauty. This may not be a place for everyone but if you're intention is to unplug, unwind, and relax then it's hard to beat. Leave the party behind and take a break here.

I believe this would be a good choice for you. We have camped all over southern Africa and youth hosteled in Europe so we are also comfortable with some roughing it. This hardly qualifies as roughing it unless you are really a Hilton recluse type (go to the resort hotel and not leave). We are in our 60s but never rented a golf cart on this island. Walking is easy. The ability to cook our own food to save is a big plus and this is well set up. There are two places very very close to the ferry to Water Island. One is upscale and very expensive but only 50 yards from the ferry. (This is Gourmet Gallery, Trip Advisor did not like grocery stores but it is reviewed on Yelp.) The other is perhaps 1/3 mile away, a Pueblo. Not as nice an experience but it had most things. You might go to Pueblo and then finish at Gourmet Gallery. Check how far the walk is. All groceries are expensive in St. Thomas. Back to Water Island: I am sure other reviews tell you what a superb place it is. Honeymoon Beach has some snorkeling and resident turtles who are used to people and tend to move away, not liking much attention. There are other locations you can walk to without too much trouble to swim or snorkel and locals are extraordinarily helpful. Have a super trip.

"I'm sure all of the cabins are wonderful, but we have stayed in cabin #5 three times and the view is amazing- day and night!"
