Great location just a short distance from town. The town is lovely, and you can walk along the fjord. Staff very friendly (offered to contact us up to 11pm if Northern Lights were out). Easy parking. Breakfast was delicious. Bathrooms down the hall. All in all a good value and we'd stay again.
This was one of the stops on our tour for horseback riding. The Icelandic horses are a pure breed, relatively small but stout and have a very gentle gait. We had a very nice ride for about 40 minutes. The only problem was we had 14 people who wanted to ride and they had only 9 saddles, including the 2 for the guides so we had to wait for the first half to get back before the second group could ride. It was just poor planning from our tour operator
This place is a gem. I loved our stay here. Warm friendly greeting upon arrival and received a tour upon check-in. Thank you for the kind hospitality. Definitely recommend. Hot tub on property and pretty horses you can say hello to out back near the water. Peaceful and wonderful view. Cutest and most enjoyable breakfast out of all the hotels we stayed at. This place captures the charm of Iceland. Favorite bed out of all the places we stayed at during our trip around the country. Similar to sleeping on clouds "Home away from home" lives up to the saying. Thank you for a nice stay.
Wonderful place, wonderful people, wonderful rooms, wonderful views, wonderful hot tub and the best breakfast we have had in Iceland in the past two weeks! We’ve loved this place! Very close to Akureyri, where you can find many shops and restaurants.
We stayed two nights and this is a wonderful place. It’s got character, not like the sterile modern hotels you find everywhere. The room was very comfortable, and spacious. The staff have been super friendly and courteous. You can’t go wrong staying here. I would definitely stay here again, should we return to Akureyri.
I was told this used to be a retirement home, and you can see some of the safety features. Decent sized room, with a sink. The bathrooms are clean and nicely decorated, but shared. However, there appeared to be two on each hallway of rooms, and I did not have to wait to use. Nice common areas, including a honesty bar (write down on a slip what you take to be charged to your room). Near the reception is a gift shop area with nice looking handicrafts, though I did not get a chance to browse much as I got in late and left early. With COVID I think they are not serving dinner, but breakfast was included and was the typical continental with some nice extras like overnight oats. As another review mentioned, the walls are thin and the halls seemed to echo. Not that the other guests were late partying, but you can hear every door closing or shower.…
Honestly a lovely place. Pros: The location is beautiful, and SO much better than staying the city of Akureyri, which in my opinion is not nice at all. It feels like a commune--with cute dogs, a huge property, and breakfast made for you by the staff. Food was delicious, and one of my favorite moments was just sitting in the backyard having a beer--looking at some horses and the sea out ahead. Potential cons: (could be for some); Shared bathrooms. (private while using, but shared with others) BUT--there are plenty, and you're realistically only sharing with a few other people. This was not a con for me, but some would not like it. Walls are thin. Again, I had very quiet people around me-but if you didn't it could get loud.
This guesthouse has a lot of rooms, but also a lot of space and certainly enough toilets and bathrooms. Which are nicely decorated btw. They just opened a guest kitchen so I made myself something for dinner there. Akureyri is also close by and has a lot of eating possibilities. Breakfast was fine. The guesthouse is situated in a quiet surrounding (I laughed out loud while approaching the guesthouse and reading the messages along the way :-). They offer horse riding tours, there is a hot tub, the views are great, you can have a seat in the dining area in the evening with coffee or tea,… so I can honestly say that this place has everything you need and more!
If you want to get away from everything, and just be present in nature and life. This is the place... Loved the views, my kids went horse riding and two stays wasn’t enough. There are 5ish bathrooms so this wasn’t a problem at all.
This was my second time in Skjaldarvík. Came here first for a couples weekend and now with the family. I love the location and the staff is really nice. Love the hot tub outside where you can relax and the wiew over the ocean and mountains is so beautiful. Highly recommended.
