Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This hostel is truly unique. Off the beaten path in a residential area this hostel offers a very affordable, well-run, extremely tidy and friendly alternative to more costly stays in the more touristy downtown. The shared facilities, such as exceptional kitchen and dining areas surpassed expectations. The room was small, but very functional. It’s a hike to town, swimming, etc., but with a grocery store next door I found the location ideal. I enjoyed every aspect of this place and very likeable folks at the front desk. Pay in advance for the breakfast. It’s five minutes away on my a bakery. Tons of food and such a nice way to start each day. Exceptional stay. I highly recommend this hostel and suggest pay for a package with breakfast!

Room Tip: Pay for breakfast if you can. Get ready to walk. It’s not far to most things, but is off grid a bit.

You get more than you pay for in this hostel. It's cheap, but very clean, quite stylish, well equipped for cooking, good beds, and we've used it repeatedly when we need accommodation in Akureyri. It´s also possible to come late, once we came at 4 o´clock in the night, but told them about it, and got a pin so we could open the door ourselves.
Of course one gets what one pays for That phrase is often used to describe something cheap but bad quality, but in Akureyri hostel you get basic good accommodation for a very fair price. The service is simply what is needed to let everything work out great. I give the plase 5 stars because it's a wonderful hostel when you simply want good accommodation for a very reasonable price.

For some reason , my booking got cancelled , because of some glitch. They did update me , but I didn't see the message as we were on road. When we reached the place, the front desk lady mentioned that it was cancelled, but she was very helpful and got us the same cottage (we were lucky, it was still available) and gave us a cheaper rate too.

It's not just that the place is so well equipped and so ready to handle a huge amount of people for the summer tourist season. It's not just that the beds are reasonably comfortable and our room was spacious. The thing that really makes it is the staff. The manager of the hostel was incredible kind and welcoming. He was thoughtful and helpful and genuinely cared about our stay and our safety in Iceland. You can tell he really cares and is proud of the hostel and wants everyone to have a great experiance. This place is getting a 5 star review, no question about it.

Everything was very clean & the hostel was quiet in the evenings. The shared kitchen / dining area is very nice & well equipped compared to other hostels. The room was very nice too.

Akureyri is quite small, so the location was fine for me. Also, it is very near a big supermarket (Bonus) too, which was really convenient.

Given that it is a hostel, I can't really fault it for anything. It was inexpensive therefore great value for money.

I noticed that there is a rule against heavy drinking, so I suppose if you are planning a heavy weekend, this wouldn't be the place to go. Although, I don't imagine that many people go to Akureyri for that reason (I don't know).

It was nicer than I expected. The best of all, the wi-fi is absolutely perfect. The room is of course simple, that's ok. You have to put the duvet & pillow cover yourself. There are sufficient showers available. The only thing I wish they had is a pizza slicer, and kitchen scissors. There are none such.
The location couldn't be better... next to the Bónus supermarket, and Domino's pizza.

I booked a single room with shared bathroom. All information about entrance and code to the room was clear. The bathroom and toilets were clean and well maintained. The only downside for myself was that I expected a room with a sink (as shown on most of the pictures, bot not all apparently). So be aware not to expect a room as on most pictures. Should have specifically asked.
