Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We stayed here from the 3rd to 7th February 2020 and had a lovely stay. We were in the microsuite in the newer block of rooms just a few seconds away from the main hotel. The room was clean and tidy with snacks on our arrival. After a long day of travelling this place was perfect. The beds were soooo comfortable, like sleeping on air. The microsuite is smaller than your standard hotel room but from reviews about the shoebox rooms, I'm happy we had the microsuite. There was never a time that I didn't look forward to coming back to the room. The location was just a little further than most hotels but it was still only about 5 minutes walk from the main town. The breakfast was great. A continental breakfast but with a lot to choose from. The yogurt was particularly tasty for me. Fresh fruit and good coffee available. You could even have a waffle if you wanted to. There's also happy hour between 5pm and 8pm where you get 2 for 1 on beers (happy hours are essential in Akureryi! ). The only problem that we had was the WiFi kept dropping out in our building and the shower took a while to heat up. But other than that, it was a great hotel.

It is a nice old fashioned and refurbished hotel. The room has great view in the Port of Akureyri and
The check in was too quick, without seeing anyone because of Covid. The location was great too. I would stay there again.

I don’t expect much at this price but the hotel was below expectations in almost every way. Staffers were unfriendly - sullen for the most part. Room was so small that even though we only had carryon bags there was no place for them and no place to sit other than the bed. (A stool next to a one-foot deep shelf was useless.) Shower was tiny and it was impossible to use without drenching the floor. Small window (we had “upgraded” to a sea view) didn’t provide enough ventilation.

The room was so tiny! in forth floor with no elevator, the window was facing a view of constructions, we ordered a double bed but there were 2 small beds, we asked for another room but there wasn’t any so although we knew we wouldn’t find any other hotel in town at this time we talked to the manager by phone and told her we want to leave and get the refund. She agreed to that and asked us to tell the boy that was on shift to do the cancellation . He was very nice but told us he can’t do it and only she can, so she will do it in the morning And that we shouldn’t worry, because that is the procedure. We left and talked to the lady in the morning. She said she would talk to booking and Ask them to refund us the money. Ever since she avoided talking to us and denies she agreed we could leave and get the refund . It’s our third time in Iceland people were always decent until this disappointing experience

No reception present "due to Corona" - felt unsafe (is this even allowed??), like an excuse and unwelcome. Hotel was pretty much empty and yet we were placed on the 3rd floor with rock wall view, jeez, thanks! No wifi password anywhere. Breakfast in mini bar, soggy chocolate cake ended up in the bin, just like the frozen tomato and cucumber slices from the bread and the expired coffee milk. Red and brown stains on one towel. Dated interior. Socket next to the bed did not work. Socket for water cooker so low you had to put it on the floor. Duvet too sort. Good location. Mattress bit soft but did not cause back pain. Two different pillows nice.

The hotel was in a great location, just steps from the main tourist/restaurant area. Free parking is available right outside the hotel. The restaurant onsite was good and worth a visit though it is only open for breakfast and lunch. There is no elevator and they do warn you about that. We were on the 4th floor so it was quite a hike with the bags and there is no assistance. So just be sure you are ready for that or ask for a lower floor. I would stay here again.

Great location in Akureyri with some great restaurants a short walk away. Rooms are on the small side but nicely decorated. Hotel could use better TV service as all 3 of our rooms were unable to watch for 2 nights. Staff was very friendly. Please note that this hotel operates electronically with staff available via phone. Also, breakfast is not included.

We were feeling a tad scrunched when we checked into our room, but when I called to ask for a bigger one, we were told, "you have the biggest room in the hotel".

Love the entry in which an old film is always playing on a TV monitor.

Decor is funky all about.

Was excited to see a small record player and some vinyl in our room, but there was no stylus on the record player.

Nice breakfasts and other goodies located a short walk away in the next building.

Me and my wife had to travel to Akureyri from East of Iceland to have our baby and staff here did everything for us to make our stay as pleasant and safe as possible. We have bin in 5 stars hotels before this and the service there was not as good as here. So we fully recommend this hotel for everyone, staff is really nice and rooms really good and clean.
Thank you so much for everything Staff of Hotel Akureyri.

Best regards The Birgisson's

Me and my hubby had a great stay. Everything was perfect, good service, clean room and great location. Breakfast was delicious, we had smoothie, oatmeal and a toast. Great touch with the guitar, as I got my private concert.
We highly recommend hotel Akureyri.
