The FossHotel Husavik is a small, clean hotel located just a couple of blocks from the harbor in the tiny town of Husavik. It’s easily the largest structure around at 4 stories so easy to find. While certainly not a luxury property, this 3 star spot was perfectly fine for a one night stay on our driving tour of Iceland. If you are coming to Husavik for whales like we were, it just makes sense to spend a night here and then it’s easy to do the morning tour before heading out. Plus it’s close to a great thermal bath-GeoSea too.

Our room, 339 had a nice view of the church and snow capped mountains, was clean and modern. The bathroom while small served all our needs and the extra firm beds gave me a decent sleep. While not a place to spend a week, nice enough for one night.

Unlike the rooms in all the other Fosshotels that we have stayed at during our road trip around Iceland, we were surprised to find out that the room given to us has very outdated décor and furniture.

Our room faced the entrance of the hotel. There were ample parking spaces for the guests. It seemed that this hotel is very popular with tour bus groups because it was crowded with guests when we arrived around dinner time.

Our bed was comfortable, and the room was well cleaned and heated. The shower was hot with good water pressure, and basic toiletries were provided for. Wifi was fast and free.

We slept very well at night, despite the fact that a lot of activities were going around at the entrance, and the black-out curtains worked great. We did not have any meals in the hotel, so, are not able to comment on that.

For the price that we had paid for the room, we are satisfied, and have no qualms at recommending this hotel to others. The selling point of the hotel has to be its central location – we could simply just walk down the street to the beautiful town centre of Husavik.

Fosshotel Husavik is a wonderful hotel. The rooms are spacious and clean and we loved the fact that we could bring our dog with us and he was welcomed with a little towel on the floor, a water bowl and a few little bones, which was incredibly thoughtful.

All memebers of staff were really helpful and nice.

An incredibly enjoyable experience for the whole family and I recommend that everyone goes there.

Usually when I low score a venue there are some redeeming features but unfortunately in this place there were none.
The service throughout our 4 day stay was nil from start to finish.
Poor check in and out. Bar was hopeless.
The picture on Hotels.com of the rooms were not the rooms we had. They have a new building but we seemed to be in the old one which resembled a very old travel lodge from the 80’s but rather than £29.99 per night it was £250 excluding breakfast. The polyester curtains didn’t even fit the windows which isn’t good when it’s daylight for practically 24 hours.
Breakfast was equally shambolic with self service buffet of the lowest possible quality. It takes place in an Eastern Block style big room which serves as a restaurant in the evening. Unsurprisingly we never tried it.
We actually checked out a day early even though we had paid for the extra night and could not get refund. We literally couldn’t wait to leave.
I would never stay here for any reason.

Standard hotel in anonymous location. Modern rooms properly cleaned guarantee a confortable stay and a quiet sleep. Shower lukewarm. Low quality breakfast served in a room dedicated to banquet with table for 8 to 10 people. Reccomended for one night stop travellers.

We stayed here on our holiday as we were travelling around Iceland. When planning our trip we chose this modern looking hotel for its location - being a minute from route 1 and the harbor, which it was. When we arrived the area immediately outside the entrance doors was full of sitting and standing people drinking, and the first main area inside is a bar, which gave the impression that there was a priority on providing a bar service over a hotel. The reception to check in at, is towards the far side of the entrance area. I would like to report that we experienced a friendly greeting, from a helpful receptionist. Sadly not. We were happily informed that the restaurant was fully booked. So no evening meal for us. We were not given any suggestions as to where, if we wanted, we could go locally for a meal. Our room was clean and comfortable and adequate for our stay, with an ensuite shower, but nothing special. It was furnished more like a room a traveling sales person would require. The TV initially had only 2 channels then suddenly about 5pm more channels became available. The room was quiet and we could not hear any outside noise. We did not have any view, as our window looked out onto another window in a wing of the hotel. The room for breakfast was huge, and was rather impersonal. The breakfast buffet was fair with a good range of breakfast items, but on one day had a limited selection of foods, this may have been as there appeared to be less guests on that day. On the day we checked out the guest lifts were out of use, luckily we had already taken our luggage to our car, so we walked down the stairs, but here was no signage to inform guests of this. When we mentioned it to the Receptionist, they appeared to be aware that there was going to be work carried out. We completed the guest feedback form and handed it to the receptionists, but to date have heard nothing. Following our experience at this and other hotels, we feel that for the cost it was not as good a value for money as it could have been.

Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience at Fosshotel Husavik. Because of a mix-up in the reservations we stayed in a two-person room with an extra bed in the old building instead of a deluxe room in the new building with an extra bed. When we arrived at our room, the window was open there was a lot of noise coming from some sort of man-made waterfall type of thing right outside the window. The noise reduced when we closed the window and we decided to sleep with the window closed. When we went to bed it soon became clear how hot and humid it would be. So, the choice was noisy or hot. The noise was extremely annoying and loud the whole family hardly slept in the unbearably hot room.
The room was VERY poorly cleaned. Little things on the floor such as coins, popcorn, candy and small rubble stones. The bathroom was poorly cleaned as well, dust, a small piece of toilet paper and some curly hair were on the floor. The toilet tank had constantly running water, with the noise that comes with it and the shower drain was clogged and barely any water went down.
When we talked to the woman that checked us out about our grievances, we were shocked at how rude she was. We politely talked to her and she looked at us for a few seconds and then back to her computer, without saying a single word. Then she started whistling and kept on with our check out. All we wanted was acknowledgement and an apology but there was nothing of the sort. This was the fifth out of six hotels in our journey and the only one we weren’t happy with. Because of the “bad taste in our mouth” after the encounter with the woman we decided to send an email to Fosshotel Husavik. Now, more than two weeks later, no answer, nothing!!!!!!

Fairly modern looking hotel but with a few upkeep issues peeking through. Room was minuscule for what we paid for it. We got rooms all over the east fjords at a similar price with 5 times the space, so it’s not the Icelandic standard. There was barely space to get to the bed it was so close to the wall.

Bathroom was also built for hobbits, and none of it had any real aesthetic appeal. I’d rather pay a bit more and get some level of comfort, but then again I guess they are banking on most of their visitors being just a one night stop, and then back home.

As someone living in the country who has visited the area a few times, this won’t be one of the places I’ll stay in future.

This was our first trip to Husavik and we were not disappointed.

The staff were super friendly and helpful.

Our room was large with a beautiful bathroom with a walking wet room/bath/shower and a window where you could see the hills.

The food at the hotel was amazing and again staff in the restaurant were great.

Breakfast was also great with an affecting if something for everyone.

We will certainly be back to this hotel next year!

Pleasantly surprised by the clean and comfortable room, everything new and in excellent working order, good value for money. Great location in the centre of town, beautiful views, and very quiet even when there are large gatherings. Some of the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, others indifferent to the point of being rude. Staff could clearly also be better trained, it seems that half the time they´re not sure what´s going on, what to do, or how to handle things. There´s also a distinct lack of attention to detail, everything from empty soap dispensers in the room that were never refilled, to staff not knowing what you have or haven´t ordered (and then not receiving any itemised bill upon payment!). As far as breakfast is concerned: don´t bother! Definitely not worth the money! There´s an excellent bakery in the next street with a large variety of freshly baked bread, sandwiches, and good coffee - which all in all is both a lot better and a lot cheaper than the hotel offers.
