Had heard great feedback on this spa and very glad we were able to enjoy a pre Christmas 🎄 getaway for four wonderfully relaxing days. Just bliss. All staff from arrival to departure were helpful and friendly. It’s the little touches that are noticed for great customer service including having your car jet washed to luggage collected from and to car on arrival and departure. The spa itself was spotless and a tranquil environment to enjoy the Scottish 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 countryside views with a pool great for swimming, hydrotherapy room, sauna and variety of steam rooms. We both had facials and Crystal body treatments and found the therapists fabulous - I had Kemma for facial and Cheyenne for the latter. Both left me feeling pampered. The food is plentiful and delicious. My personal favourites were the salmon starter at dinner followed by sea bass and the 🧁 enough said! We’d chosen to stay in a suite, the Oriental found this well appointed and spacious. Overall highly recommend

What other can I say but my daughter and I had an amazing stay at Stobo. It is the most welcoming, with superb caring staff. The treatments were most relaxing. We enjoyed the pool, cocktail bar and spa facilities. The food was first class, 2 course lunch, 3 course dinner. Enjoyed the breakfast. I was so relaxed I nearly fell asleep at the breakfast table! The Japanese gardens well worth a visit. We were in Darnley room, toilet is in the turret and never spent a night in such a beautiful comfortable room. One of us was vegan and there is a vegan menu which was excellent. Staff were so aware and attentive of dietary requirements. The only two things for feedback to Stobo would be for chef to change make of vegan chicken. Also we would have loved to sit on chairs at poolside fir a peedie while to take in the view but some guests were leaving towels on the bed for a long time so no one else could use them. We were there for about an hour, towels on bed and no guests sitting on them. This is not the Hotels fault just selfish guests. Good on the lady guest for removing the towels. She was thinking exactly the same as myself. A notice or someone checking periodically to remove towels on unattended beds would be helpful. I visited 10 years ago but won't leave it so long next time. Truly a wonderful place just love it. ❤️

Dear Guest, Many thanks for leaving such a wonderful review of your time here at Stobo! I was so pleased to hear everything was to your satisfaction, with the exception of the inconsiderate behaviour of other guests - there are signs in place discouraging the practice of "reserving" the pool loungers, however we will certainly consider a stronger approach going forward, if necessary! We all look forward to the pleasure of your company again, hopefully in the not too distant future. Best wishes,

After a really busy Christmas and start to the year, I booked a solo trip to Stobo as a chance to relax.

I had a lovely stay a week ago in the Melrose single bedroom. I felt really well looked after from the minute I arrived (when my bags were taken to my room and I was given a welcome tour) to check out and lunch when leaving.

The room was comfortable, well equipped and my (small but appreciated) special requests were taken care of in advance of my arrival.

The included meals were delicious and the service from the waiting staff was quietly efficient without feeling rushed.

The facilities were immaculate, varied and I felt I was able to really switch off and relax - I enjoyed both the spa facilities and my treatment.

Looking forward to another visit sometime

We were given a room at the castle lodge which sounded nice, but when we got there was a walk uo the hill and not connected to the hotel at all , so you walking around in the robe and flimsy slippers that were provided didn’t seem like a good plan. It was also raining and very cold! Inside the front door to the lodge it reminded us of a uni dorm as you went up the stairs- not the classy interior you’d expect. The room was average size and had 2 large beds , but I don’t think it was worth £239 each for one night . Perhaps in the castle but not in this extension area which was in no way connected to the hotel. The price did include meals and spa facilities but despite booking this in August, I could not get any spa treatments and was on a wait list. We were never contacted to say if anyone had cancelled or changed bookings so I didn’t get any treatments.

Meals were okay, but I honestly expected much better considering the staggering price per head so we were disappointed . At dinner, my starter of haggis pakora was very, very dry , didn’t taste of haggis at all and the accompanying lettuce was brown at the edges and had clearly come from a bag of mixed leaves , similar to what you’d get in Tesco. Main course of beef was very tasty , but with the beef I only got one piece of broccoli and one stick of carrot , and some potato. Breakfast was your standard hotel cooked breakfast and again, very dry haggis and also black pudding . For lunch I had Caesar salad and again , some of the lettuce was brown and there was way too much dressing - the lettuce was so limp! Puddings at dinner and lunch were tasty and much better than the mains. We were actually only asked once if the food was okay and we don’t like to complain really , we just don’t return!

The castle and grounds were actually lovely and some parts were very quiet and relaxing especially the Japanese garden . Sadly the price wasn’t worth it. I wish I’d removed the gratuities that were just added on.

Dear Guest, I was most concerned to hear of your dissatisfaction with your recent Stobo visit and would like to take this opportunity to address the points you have raised. The choice of rooms available and the rates applicable would have been discussed and accepted at the time of booking and confirmed by email where it states “Castle Lodge is a 200 yard outside walk from the main castle”. There is no requirement for guests to wear slippers and robes between Castle Lodge and the spa as changing facilities are provided – again, this information was included in your confirmation: “Changing facilities and lockers for Castle Lodge guests are located in the Spa”. I’m so sorry if the haggis was dry or for the presence of any brown salad leaves – it’s hugely unfortunately that this wasn’t brought to our attention at the time as replacement dishes would have been arranged immediately. Apologies also for our inability to accommodate your treatment requests on this occasion. We spare no expense when it comes to recruitment and should have a full complement of therapists on the team once again very soon. It is widely advertised that the gratuity is entirely discretionary and our Receptionists are more than happy to amend or remove this charge upon request. Given our residential packages include a three course dinner, full Scottish breakfast, two course lunch, unlimited use of world-class spa facilities, a complete programme of fitness & relaxation classes and exclusive entry to The Japanese Water Gardens, I am confident the rate of £239 represents excellent value for money. Your positive comments are very much appreciated, I’m just sorry we didn’t match, or indeed exceed your expectations this time around. With kind regards,

Misleading advertising with this spa hotel. Allows you to book on line for a short stay at the hotel at a reasonable high price for room and food which were average claiming access to the spa hotel facilities. Well appointed room and public areas with lovely helpful staff. However, on arriving you are informed that there access to the pool and gym but there is no access to the spa treatment facilities without giving 2 weeks notice. Lots of discussions with staff and spa director with no resolution of the problem. His hotel clearly makes their profit from accommodating clients on spa day packages and has little regard for its resident’s requirements . Therefore unless you can book more than 2 weeks in advance, I would avoid this hotel and seek out one of the many other excellent hotels in the area with a spa .

Dear Guest, Stobo Castle is run with the utmost integrity and I am hugely disappointed that you would choose to describe our advertising as "misleading". Unlimited use of the "spa facilities" is indeed included in the room rate and it's widely accepted that this terms refers to the pool, hot tubs, gym, hydrospa etc. Guests visiting any reputable destination spa/spa hotel will find that pre-booking for spa treatments is essential and our guests are advised at every opportunity (within the confirmation email, on our website, in our promotional material) that treatment requests must be made in advance, preferably at the time of booking, as appointments are subject to availability. I strongly refute your claim that we prioritise one type of guest above another - all are equally valued and every effort is made to accommodate everyone's requests, however our treatments are extremely popular and we rarely have "on the day" appointments available. Your positive comments regarding the accommodation, public areas and staff are appreciated and I do hope my response clarifies our position with regards to treatment bookings to anyone reading your review.

This place is in a very stunning part of Scotland. The whole hotel is spotless and airy.
All our meals were absolutely delicious, the cocktails were the best we’ve had and the staff all friendly and helpful.

What made us give an average review was a few things but mainly basing it on value for money. This was a wedding gift for us, one night luxury stay so we were looking forward to it. After arriving we quickly felt it was much more geared up to women. The women only steam rooms and experience showers were very good but I only used them for 5 mins as I was there with my husband and wanted him to experience it also (he was also keen). There are of course mixed facilities but the ladies only ones are particularly special. The whole time I didn’t know where the ladies lockers were as they weren’t painted out and not next to the pool.

On the Saturday morning I went down to the main atrium to get a coffee, it was 8:30. There was not one person- customer or staff so I thought it hadn’t been opened yet. I asked at the main reception and she took me up ensuring me it was opened at 8. She finally found a member of staff in the back room of the cafe. She came out and immediately made me feel like I was an inconvenience because she was ‘still setting up’. So I started to ask for my order and to my surprise she told me to wait and then proceeded to turn the lights on (it had been open for 30 mins) and THEN I was permitted to speak.

I can see this is a common misunderstanding/ mistake but we booked our lunch for 1:45 as we were allowed to do so, therefore thought we could use the facilities until then. Whilst in the hot tub we were told to get out. I guess there are logical reasons for managing the numbers but seems silly that we are paid to have our lunch up until 2 pm but we have to get out of our rooms at 12 Would be much more pleasant if we could use the facilities until then. That said, the gentlemen that told us to get out was the same one that checked us in and he couldn’t have been nicer about it. We thought he was great at check in too. A real asset to the hotel.

We used the gym when we arrived, this is a lovely gym and the member of staff was helpful and friendly. Unfortunately, we were both told not to do a couple of exercises because it was too loud for the yoga class downstairs. Pretty annoying being given restrictions to the facilities that we’ve paid to use.

Lastly, we stayed in the castle lodge, I did read it was in a separate building which was nice. It was a bit disappointing as we thought it was going to be in keeping with the castle style but it was much more modern so we didn’t feel we got the castle experience.

Dear Guest, Many thanks for your opening remarks which are hugely appreciated however, I would like to take this opportunity to apologise for the less than friendly welcome you received in The Courtyard Café – please be assured that your disappointment will be brought to the attention of the member of staff concerned and appropriate action taken. With regards to the allocation of our spa facilities, additional steam rooms are provided for ladies to accommodate the higher percentage of female guests we attract compared to male - in mitigation, this policy is publicised on our website here https://www.stobocastle.co.uk/spa/spa-attractions/. Thank you so much for your high praise of Graeme – he really is a much valued member of the Stobo team. The check out time of 12 noon is stated on the confirmation email and is set as such as a window of three hours is required to service all 50 bedrooms. I was delighted to hear how much you enjoyed using the gym – as a courtesy to those attending the Yoga/Meditation sessions on the lower level, we do monitor noise levels whilst the 5 minute relaxation section of the class takes place. I’m truly sorry the Castle Lodge interior design was not to your taste – a slightly more modern theme was chosen to complement the style of the building. I do hope you enjoyed your time with us on the whole and you will perhaps consider a return visit to Stobo at some point in the future. Kind regards,

Came for a girly weekend away, we stayed in the castle lodge which is cheaper. Although the bedroom was large with two doubles it felt a bit basic in decoration and the bathroom was very small.
The spa facilities were great and never felt too busy, there was a good range of gym and activity style classes on throughout the day to enjoy between eating. I enjoyed the relaxed feel in the day, the courtyard is lovely for a coffee and to read a book between treatments or use of the spa.
There was a good selection of food at each of the meal times and the food was enjoyable. The staff were very friendly but some quite young and inexperienced, during dinner on one night the waiter couldn’t give us any information on one of the wines. We also didn’t get the wine until half way through our meal.
The location is beautiful and there are a great selection of walks or runs that can be completed from the castle.
With all that being said I would still come back as this is one of the few destinations spas in Scotland and the trip as a whole was very enjoyable.

I have visited stobo regularly for years and always have an amazing experience from the rooms, facilities, the friendly staff and the food is amazing. The menu can be a bit repetitive when staying over 2 nights but the quality of food and choice is exceptional.

Stobo are very conscious of the environment and I wonder if it might be worth considering the idea to email the bill to guests at 9am so they can check it and query any discrepancies before going to reception to pay? May save printing bills and reprinting when there are queries, so cost effective and environmentally friendly. Also saves reception staff having a queue of guests forming.

It was lovely to see spa therapists that have worked there a number of years in addition to all the new staff who are friendly, polite and helpful.

A lot of people think it’s expensive to visit stobo but the facilities, classes, food and staff make it a truly relaxing experience and overall I feel it is fairly good value for money. Stobo is my happy place and I look forward to visiting again.

Took my mum for a 3 night stay in the Lennox deluxe room within the castle. Beautiful room, facing the entrance and grounds. The room had everything and more! The beds are like sleeping on clouds!! Luxurious toiletries, tasty teas and fresh towels, condiments etc every day and with our beds made. Shower fab! Staff friendly and efficient service. Food delicious and plentiful. Spa facilities amazing. Try everything, very relaxing. Treatments incredible. We left floating on air. A truly wonderful time and precious memories made.

Things to note.... If you're having a massage, personally I wouldn't opt for the water massage as well as the serenity massage was so worth it by itself and make sure you book all your meal times. There were many trainee waiters/waitresses when we visited so please be patient if they slip up, afterall, everyone has to learn.

Only one thing we would have liked is perhaps more Xmas decorations such as lit garlands around the fireplaces just to make it a bit more festive! The tree at the main staircase however is incredible !

Whatever time of year you go, you will definitely enjoy. Well done team Stobo! We are booking for next year!

My friend and I stayed overnight to celebrate our 50th birthdays. We paid £279 each so were expecting 5 star service. Unfortunately there were a few issues which was disappointing.

Firstly I had taken a birthday cake for my friend. I asked if it could be brought out with dessert at dinner. I was told ‘we don’t do that in the dining room’. Really? There were no candles, I wasn’t going to sing happy birthday. All I wanted was for it to be put on a plate and brought out with our desserts.

Secondly when we got to our room we called down for wine glasses. There are already 2 glass tumblers in the room for the water so glasses aren’t an issue. We were told we could only get glasses if we ordered wine due to licensing laws. How do licensing laws impact the ability to get 2 wine glasses when there are already glasses in the room?

Finally on the day we were leaving we booked lunch for 1:15pm. We were hungry so turned up at 1pm. There was nobody else waiting to be seated. We were told that he hadn’t finished seating his 1pm guests so we needed to ‘go away and come back’. There was literally nobody else there and our table was free!

Our room was lovely, the facilities are good, and the food amazing.

We are regulars at Stobo but unfortunately these issues and the attitude of some of the staff will put us off returning again.

Dear Guest, I would like to take this opportunity to address the points you have raised in you recent review of Stobo Castle. To maintain a relaxing environment in the Dining Rooms, unfortunately we don't permit balloons, decorations, cakes etc. however, as an alternative, we would have been delighted to accommodate your request in the courtyard after dinner or to bring plates and cutlery to your room. Recent changes in Scottish Licencing Laws mean that the provision of ice buckets or glasses without purchases from our drinks menu now breaches their terms. This puts the castle's premises licence and personal licences in jeopardy, so unfortunately we are no longer able to provide this service. When presenting for lunch, our Dining Room Team were in the process of re-setting tables for the 1.15/1.30pm time slot and did indeed recommend you popped back in a while at which point your table would be ready. I'm so sorry if any inconvenience or disappointment was caused, that was certainly not our intention. I was thrilled to hear you otherwise enjoyed your time with us and very much hope that, with the passage of time, we will have the distinct pleasure of your company at Stobo again at some point in the future. Kind regards

I've stayed in Dreva a couple of times. Lovely room on the first floor. Quirky wallpaper. Single bed, and drawers/tv at the foot of the bed. Chair by the window but not much view (but wasn't in room to sit and look out the window) Closet with safe. Bright bathroom with shower. Quiet location as nobody really needs to be walking past your room to get to other rooms

Lunch is included but you should book it after check out so you can use the facilities before you leave. You can wear what you want to dinner (not a robe) you won’t look out of place in jeans and a T-shirt. Some people dress up, most don’t. The previous reply is is accurate, it’s very expensive and not value for money.

You can go in the hot tubs, don’t have to book however they do have a notice about staying in for only 15 mins. Also there’s a cocktail bar which overlooks the pool. Walk in the grounds but probably a bit too cold for that now. Other than that I think you will be sat in the atrium where you have to wear a mask.
