Booked one night at this hotel before a cruise and I am very happy I did! Paid approximately $150 Canadian and the room was bigger and more beautifully appointed than any hotel room I’ve ever stayed in at twice the price! Huge bathroom, thick towels, many toiletries provided, USB ports by the bed, strong wifi, fancy digital controls for lighting and air conditioning. The staff couldn’t have been more helpful and accommodating. This was my first time in Malta and we would definitely come back to explore the country and just experience this hotel again!

We spent 10 days at the St John during January. It was a great base for exploring Valletta. There are plenty of restaurants and bars with outside terraces (covered in the winter etc) and indoor seating in Merchant Street, so no need to go very far to find a choice of places to eat. The Cheeky Monkey gastro pub owned by AX Group is right outside The St John and we ate there on two occasions ( discount for hotel guests). The bar next door but one ( Capitol Bar) had a live singer on most nights until about 11 pm. It's a great bar, serving light meals and cocktails, always busy and with attentive, pro-active staff.
St John guests have breakfast at the Rosselli, a few doors away. This can be inside or outside on the terrace area of the street. Paul, the restaurant manager chatted to us each morning and looked after us very well and the breakfast was great. Fresh orange juice, whatever coffee or tea you wanted and a generous selection of fresh fruits, cheese and hams, pastries and breads. Eggs and porridge were also available, cooked to order.
Our room at the front of the property, overlooking the street, with a traditional Valletta balcony was comfortable, clean and spacious. It was a little short of storage space for us ( but would be fine for guests with less luggage and staying for a shorter time). There is plenty of space to add an extra chest of drawers without spoiling the appearance of the room.
The hotel acknowledged my birthday with a bottle of prosecco and a swan towel, petal and sweetie display, which was nice. They also arranged for us to visit one of their other hotels where we could swim and have a sauna. There is a pool on the roof terrace of the Rosselli, which we could have used but it was just too cold to consider that. The bar on the roof terrace was not open during our stay and we did not eat in the hotel's Michelin star restaurants, other than our breakfast.

We booked this boutique hotel through EasyJet, of all people, and when we arrived to check in at the sister hotel,Rossellini AX Privelege, which was three doors down, I thought we had struck gold.

The reception was very welcoming, glass of fizz whilst we filled in the paperwork and then off to our accommodation

The Rossellini is 5 star, the St John , 4 star.

Our accommodation was nothing short of superb, beautiful room with all the facilities you need and a few more beside. Such as a coffee machine, fresh water in a jug, replaced daily, plus we had an enclosed balcony over looking Merchants Street.

No noise heard, even though the Valletta festival was in full swing once you shut the balcony door, you shut out any sound.

Breakfast was taken at the Rosselli , service was excellent, continental on a three tier stand with bread, pastries, meat, cheeses and fruit plus a choice of eggs, cooked to your choice, recommend the omelette with everything in it with side of crispy bacon.

The Rosselli has a Michelin star restaurant, we dined outside and the food was excellent , try the lasagne cooked with black ink from the octopus and minced octopus , delicious.

The Hotel group also own the Cheeky Monkey bar and restaurant , ideal for pasta, burgers etc, dined there as well and it was good value for money and good quality

The roof terrace in the Rosselli was open and we spent a chilled couple of hours late Sunday afternoon , very well laid out plus there is a spa poo/ jacuzzi , not in use as it was too early in the season.

In short, I could not fault this hotel it was without doubt first class, from room,to food to service all excellent.

Would we return, a definite yes and we are looking at booking next February 2024

The whole hotel feels upmarket with great rooms. We had a very large room at the front with both an enclosed and open balcony onto the Main Street. The furnishings were of high quality, with a very large bed and bathroom.
We enjoyed the breakfast each day and did not find it busy at all.
Check in was in the swanky hotel down the road but we were made to feel very welcome here and given a complimentary glass of wine in check in.
The location was great, right in the centre of the city. As a result the room was very noisy at night, with loads of traffic and people outside all night, even with earplugs you could hear loud music. We do understand the hotel cannot do anything about this in this location.

This is a very nice hotel right in the centre of Valletta. The room was comfortable and fine for a 4 day stay. The bottled water is provided free and the toiletries supplied are impressive. It has an associated restaurant - Cheeky Monkey where breakfast is served. The breakfast is excellent with everything you could want. The reception staff at the associated Rossini hotel wer very helpful, especially when our pick-up didn't turn up to take us to the airport.

We were staying 3 days at St. Johns hotel which is located in the middle of the old ancient town of Valetta and therefore very central to the ocean and harbour. The ferries to Gozo are in a distance of 10 min.
walk.
We enjoyed mostly the very friendly and attentive staff. The breakfast was continental, very fresh and of excellent quality and quantity. Even when we wanted to eat breakfast 30 min before they actually opened they attended to us and provided coffee to go and packed everything for us we wanted.
The pool is rather small on the rooftop in another building approximately 30 m away from the hotel.
The food of the restaurant we had only once at dinner which was not 100 % our taste. But taste differs from person to person.
The rooms were spacious and equipped with fridge and coffee making facilities. Very nice and beautiful room equipment.
A point less we give because in our room 203 we could be watched while showering from the floor, the curtains were not dark enough to cover the lights outside of the floor. In addition they was not enough water power when a lot of people showered at the same time.
And sometimes the bass from the music in the restaurant was to hear up to approx. 23h.
All in all an enjoyable stay.

Great location and good room with balcony.

It is not clear that breakfast is taken down the road at their Rosselli Hotel, not an issue but would be helpful to understand the Saint John is just a number of rooms with no hotel facilities.

Breakfast was served like afternoon tea and was fresh and tasty, along side there was the offer of eggs on a daily basis but it would be helpful to know what type of eggs you can order, with any side options possible.

This is the only hotel in Malta we have stayed in where complimentary water was not provided in the room on a daily basis.

Overall a good stay but I wouldn’t choose this again as I prefer the option of onsite hotel facilities.

The hotel is central and shares facilities with The Rosselli a few doors down. The room was extremely comfortable, stylish and spacious and while we were at the front of the hotel and could hear some street noise it did not trouble us. All of the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant and we made note of Sujani’s name as being particularly helpful.
We visited Malta for a friends 60th birthday, attending some events but the rest of the time we ate at the hotel. Food ranged from a Burger Meal in the Cheeky Monkey to fine dining at Grain Street then to a Michelin Tasting Menu with matched wines at Under Grain. All were outstanding.
Breakfasts were a treat, as was the Roof Terrace. We even managed to have a dip in the pool on a hot day and sunbathe on the Roof Terrace.
A wonderful find and highly recommended for Couples.

Stayed with friends for 4 nights. Central location rooms at front might get a bit of noise but ours was quiet at the rear. Staff are fantastic. Special mention to Ma on reception who went out of her way to make our stay memorable. Breakfast was very good with great service from Paul and all his team who deserve praise. Also a special thank you to the Porter who was very welcoming.

The room was spacious, clean an well equipped. Although I we would recommend to ask for a room not facing to the front as there is a pub down there with live music on weekends (except Sunday evening;-)). As long as you're not going to sleep before 11 pm its ok but if you're tired after a long day walking Valletta and the three cities you may like to find some sleep earlier.
The staff suprised my wife a chilled bottle of sparkling wine and a nice greeting card on the occasion of her decadal birthday. That was indeed a very nice touch and was much appreciated. Thanks once again.
The continental breakfast was served daily at the near Rosselli Hotel a few meters down the Merchant Street. The staff was very polite and friendly all the time and very attentive. They always had a little smile for the guests.
The hotel is situated in an ideal location. The seafront, the Grandmaster Palace, St. Johns Cathedral and much more is all within a short walking distance. Also a lot of bars and restaurants are in short reach. We can recommend the Taproom on Old Theater Street (be sure to make a reservation!), the Alchemy Bar and for a quick burger the Cheeky Monkey right down the stairs.
We will definitely come back for another stay. Thanks!
