Detailed Reviews
The location of the hotel is excellent, within a few minutes walking distance from most of the Valetta sights and restaurants. The street was quiet; even sleeping in a 1st floor room facing the street I never had any noise that could disturb me. The room was small but not unpleasantly small, leaving place for a single traveler - two travelers with big suitcases could be problematic, however. The bathroom was small as well but had enough space for a small bathroom and the shower was excellent with enough space and quick hot water.
The staff was nice and helpful having only a couple of minor glitches handling the breakfast.
The breakfast was below my expectations for this kind of hotel, with no options of hot food.

We stayed there for three nights , Jan17th to Jan 19th at room no 15. The hotel was amazing in general , if you are looking for a small hotel. Our room was new, confortable, perfectly clean and it had everything you might need such as slippers and bathrobes, very good blowdryer, iron and ironboard, electric kettle for making tea and nespresso coffee machince with capsules of coffee available, a bottle of water offered daily plus complimentary soft drinks in the rooms refridgarator, (which we did not use). Sleep quality was perfect. We were given adaptors for the sockets when we asked for. Breakfast was also very good ! it had all necessary products in very good quality although ( as expected from a small hotel ) not a huge variety. The hotel's manager, Mark, was the hotel's asset !! with high social skills and always willing to help, he offered information on everything and made our life easier. All staff was very polite. We had an excellent experience and we would definately go back !!

I have to say, I booked this trip to Malta, Valetta at the last minute but what a find, this hotel is really so well situated for all the key sights nearly all within 10 mins or less. There’s an ATM close by.
Mark the owner as a family business, local was there in time breakfast. When checked in which was very late it was all organised and took just a moment. I had phoned ahead say I would arrive late but the desk is open 24/7. Local sighting bus tours and trips to the blue lagoon and Gozo etc can be booked outside the entrance to St Elmo Fort 5 mins walk from the hotel. The views of the harbour from it are wonderful. There’s a a really nice cafeteria next to it and it has a great track out the back with great views of the sea and very reasonably priced. I took lunch here. The fort will take you at least 2 hours.
The Barrister well named as your in the Courts, Advocate location in Valetta. The hotel is very maintained and it’s small but upmarket my room 11 as a solo traveller was comfortable spotlessly clean, a juice crisp minibar Breakfast was 730am until 10am, 11am checkout. I actually leave tomorrow but I can’t say enough about Mark and his hotel. Breakfast continental style but plenty of choice and all the staff I met where extremely friendly, professional and incredibly helpful. If need to know anything about vista just ask Mark, he had every base covered. My room was quiet and well situate a short climb up a few stairs or you can take the lift. What can I already even before I leave tomorrow, 20 out of 10 Mark, what great place you have. Thanks for a great stay. If I come back I know where I’ll be staying again !!!

Such a clean, comfortable welcoming hotel. Staff were so hospitable and friendly. Rooms are spotless, comfortable and have everything you could need to make your stay even more comfortable. Extremely well located in Central Valletta, with all of Valletta's beauties around you.
Will definately recommend to friends and family and look forward to our next visit.

Wonderful stay at the Barrister. The hotel definitely exceeded our expectations.
Our room, #14, was quite large and nicely decorated. It had a large King Bed, large walk in shower, large wardrobe for hanging clothes along with a lower drawer big enough to store the rest of the clothes we needed for our 6 nights here. The room is on a corner with 3 windows so natural light was amazing and the windows were absolutely sound proof. Small fridge stocked with no charge soft drinks as well as Nespresso machine were perfect! Easy to use light switches and abundant power sockets round out the small things that can make or break a hotel stay.
Breakfast was tasty and healthy, coffee, juices, cereals, cold cuts, hard boiled eggs, cheeses, fruits, breads, croissants, waffles, yogurt as well as an assortment of very nice jams and peanut butter. What more does one need?
Location is on a very quaint street in a typical Valletta neighbourhood. Close to the geographical centre of the city, 5 minutes walk from the main gates. Easy to find. We took the city bus from the airport and walked with our luggage to the hotel in under 7 easy minutes from the main bus station for Valletta.
The staff is another highlight, we were greeted nicely upon arrival and were treated well whenever we interacted. I would say Mark was a pleasure to meet and talk with but so was all his staff!
The only place we will stay when in this Country!
Cheers Alex and JoAnn

Hotel was extremely clean and followed all Covid measures, we felt safe. Breakfast is served in your room so as to avoid mixing with other guests. Room comes with soft drinks, coffee and snacks complimentary. Ac works very efficiently and silently.
We also mentioned the visit was for a birthday celebration and they brought complimentary prosecco!
Hot tub kept the perfect temperature throughout our visit and the view complimented the use of the hot tub very well.
Slight down is soundproofing; It’s very easy to hear conversations from the adjacent room.
Overall, highly recommended stay.

We initially booked for 2 nights and stayed for 3 nights. We stayed in 3 different rooms. All 3 were fabulous especially the in with the hot tub. It was my husbands birthday. It was our 1st visit to Malta so we wanted to wait and see if we would prefer to stay somewhere else other than Valletta, therefore we didn’t book anywhere else. The beds were all very comfortable. It’s family run and as a small boutique hotel it is superb in comparison to the other hotel we moved to in Valletta. All rooms have windows on to a small street. The hotel has double/triple glazing so you don’t hear any noise. Breakfast was continental but I believe there are plans to have a kitchen & restaurant soon. There is no bar but there are lots in the vicinity. Casa Soto nearby is a super pizzeria & Gracy’s opposite it is excellent. Emma & Mark both speak English and were able to advise us on where to visit locally and what to avoid! We loved Valletta & didn’t leave except for 2 days & nights in Rabat/Mdina at the end of our week’s holiday. If you love Valletta you’ll enjoy Mdina/Rabat too. More cultural than St Julian & Sliema which is just full of high rises & bars. We weren’t looking for that kind of holiday. Rabat has more Michelin star restaurants than any other small village I’ve ever been to. Not too expensive either by Irish standards! Definitely worth a visit.

Dear guest, Thank you for the wonderful comments. We all very much enjoyed interacting with you. It would have been ideal for you not to have to change rooms however, given the late booking and the occupancy levels, this proved inevitable. On the plus side, you git to attest our consistency! Thank you again for the good vibes and great comments hopefully we get to welcome you back! Best wishes, Mark

I think this hotel is fantastic. I spent 4 nights here between the 20th and the 24th January 2020. The whole experience from walking through the door to check in to walking out to head back to the airport was second to none.
My friend and I had an early flight to Malta so arrived at the hotel too early to check-in. As expected we were able to leave our cases at the hotel while we went to explore Valletta. The receptionist who greeted us was very friendly and gave us tips on the best places to visit, things to do and restaurants to eat at before we ventured out.
When we returned we were warmly greeted and as we checked in we were told that our rooms had been upgraded.
I stayed in room 15. It was a very comfortable room. A kettle and coffee machine were provided as well as complimentary soft drinks in the minibar and a bottle of water is left for you each day. If your electrical appliances have the European plug and you don't take a British plug adapter, the hotel will lend you these. I did not need to borrow any adaptors (being from England my plugs worked in Malta) but I've never known this service to be provided in any of the hotels I've stayed in.
Every member of staff is friendly, greet you as you come into the hotel, ask how your day has been etc and take a genuine interest in their guests. Mark takes the time to speak to his guests and it's this personal touch that sets this wonderful hotel apart from others.
The location is superb. The hotel is only a few minutes walk from the centre of the beautiful city of Valletta and all it has to offer and is only a short drive from the airport.
I don't know when I'll return to Malta but what I do know is that when I do, having spent a few brilliant days in The Barrister, I'll certainly be booking to stop here again.
Thank you to all staff at The Barrister for making my stay in your lovely hotel and city one that I'll always look back on with fond memories.

We stayed for 5 days and had one of the patio/hot tub rooms.
Good part: The room was just high enough to look over the neighboring rooftop and view the sea at sunrise. Our room was always clean, the bed was comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful. The best part was the hotel was centrally located and also away from the louder streets so it was mostly quiet at night.
Bad part: The elevator sits next to an open stairwell and every couple of minutes it seemed to arrive at a floor with a very loud "DING" as if someone rang a call bell outside the door. The hotel serves a limited breakfast, which is still enjoyable except when we wanted to go experience breakfast or brunch in town we were repeatedly given a lecture on why their service was limited. It made breakfast uncomfortable and not a relaxing way to start the day.
Overall we would consider staying there again and would have given a 5-star rating if not for the morning lecture about breakfast.

Some hotels you love for their many features or amenities and while the Barrister has fine rooms and amenities, there isn't anything necessarily unique to it that would set it apart from other boutique hotels of its kind. The rooms are tastefully decorated in modern but minimalist aesthetic, with solid amenities and the Maltese balconies make for extra charm, albeit a charm easily found in a feature that exists in buildings all over this island. The location is fantastic for exploring the town, but so is that of many an establishment. What makes this place special and what we will remember from our time is the incredibly warm welcome, help, conversation and sheer caring exuded by Emma upon our arrival and the next days, the kindness, conversation and help from her dad, Marc- their generosity and attention to the smallest request or comment, and the smiles and friendliness of every desk and staff person. Pierre so eager to offer every possible aid while learning the trade and (maybe) balancing his breakfast duties was also a blast of joy to observe. If you travel often, you will eventually see every type of hotel and amenity along the way and yes, some settings in the world will make for truly unique or unforgettable spaces- but for the bulk of hotel stays in the world, it is the little things, those small touches we miss nowadays that matter. At the Barrister, true hospitality is not a little thing, it is everything.
