A true holiday home from home, our first visit was 1990 and we have stayed there at least 20 times. Difficult to fault, very simple and quiet but not far from anywhere. Glorious views. Good pool, bar and restaurant and 15 minutes walk from bellapais with several more restaurants.

Have discovered a fantastic hidden treasure in the hills above Kyrenia. This little hotel has it all, the views are amazing, the wonderful staff will go above and beyond and the rooms are delightful. It does not pretend to be 5 star but for us it was more than perfect...heaven!
My sister and her husband were married here, a small family wedding which surpassed all our expectations. Twenty five of us travelled over from the UK and Australia and every single one of us were blown away by the place. The most amazing, lovely intimate family wedding ever!! Can not recommend it enough.

Whilst on holiday in Kyrenia we thought it would be a good idea to have a look at some of the other hotels and just give a first impressions review.
Ambelia Village is just off the main road leading up to Bellapais, in fact you turn off at the roundabout by the Army base and head up higher then do a sharp right turn up an even steeper hill into the reception car park. If your driving it will test your clutch control !.
This is a small but very well thoughout establishment. People return year after year and it is easy to see why. The villa's are built in terraces and nearly all offer fantastic views over Bellapais and the Kyrenia coastline for as far as the eye can see.
Some new villas have not long been added these are directly off the small pool and restaurant/bar area . They are larger that the older rooms and are very well fitted out, even a full size fridge.
Agnes and Caner the owners have done a great job as the improvements made here blend in so well it was hardly noticable at first. By the way we have visited here on previous holidays. We think this place is great for couples/families who are looking for a quite get away place, that grows it's own organic food . People with disabilities may find the steps and slopes quite a problem and would be wise to check with the owners before booking.Remember you are quite high up on the mountains so even in summer the nights may be a little cooler.

Postioned in the mountain side village of Bellapais above Kyrenia(Girne) the view from this hotel is stunning looking down on the whole of Kyrenia area with Bellapais Abbey in the foreground. A quiet peaceful retreat in a beautiful village. We first found Ambelia in 2011 and since have revisited many time bringing friends and family who have all loved it too. A great base to explore from or just relax and enjoy the peaceful rural setting. You can eat in or walk down to the village to sit with a coffee under The Tree of Idleness( ref, Durrells Bitter Lemons). Agnes and Iris are wonderful friendly hosts, lovely swimming pool surrounded by mountain scenery. Clean comfortable studio rooms with bathroom, aircon, fridge, kettle or larger villas available. Free wifi available in main building.

We really enjoyed our vacation in Girne at the Ambelia Village. The hotel is quite new and attractively styled, with a lovely bar surrounded by trees - the pool area has been interestingly constructed round existing olive and pine trees. We loved staying at the Ambelia, with spectacular panaromic sea views . Our room, with a side sea view, was compact but had a large patio window for the glorious morning sun. People were so nice and kind. Food is beyond good. I never expect the best of food in hotels, but this place surprised me. I would even go just to the restaurant. Everything I had was excellent. The Fish & Kalamari was superb. About the location... it is alittle away from downtown, top of the hills(10 minutes to downtown), So it is good to take a fresh air 24/7. Each location has its own charm. I would highly recommend Ambelia Village GOOD JOB, Hotel Ambelia!! May your business continue to flourish because you obviously put your clients first before anything else. May success find you !! p.s. Do not forget to have conversation with lovely hotel owner CANER while drinking your delicious brandy sour at pool bar.

Amelia village is honestly the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. It's like a secret paradise! I've completely fallen in love with it.
It is relatively small, making it a peaceful, calm and homely place to stay. It may not be the most luxurious place, but it definitely feels like home when you're there, which for me is a million times better.
The location at the top of the mountains not only meant there were stunning views from around the hotel and from the balcony in the room, but also meant it was less humid than in the town centre, which was a big plus.
The hotel rooms were really nice, clean and fresh.
The staff were extremely friendly. They knew all the guests and didn't hesitate to help us with whatever we needed. Caner is the best! I would go back just to see him again!
Without a doubt the best thing about staying at Ambelia was the amazing food. We stayed in Cyprus for 2 weeks and this was by far the best food we ate during our entire stay. Authentic Cypriot food at its best!

As you can tell, I couldn't recommend this place more! Check out my photos and see for yourself.

The house we stayed in was nice and clean. Simple at best. Kitchen wasn't very well appointed. Toaster didn't work properly, no decent sharp knives, and normally you expect a few tidbits like olive oil, clingfilm etc to have been left behind from previous guests but everything had been removed so first thing was a trip to the super market. no doubt a little sideline for staff there. We arrived as planned on schedule with no one there to meet us. Poor start. Ambelia is in a great location, overlooking the wonderful Bellapais abbey, but everything is rather faded. Air Conditioning outlets come out in them middle of terraces so they drip everywhere, sun shades don't work properly etc. And then half way through our holiday we were told we ahve to pay in sterling, and any card payments will incur a 3% charge!! Surely these are things we should have been told about before. Very disappointing, particularly as there is one bank that dispenses sterling and three trips there yielded nothing, a waste of holiday time that would easily have been sorted if the staff had thought to be more informative and then more cooperative when this all became apparent. A pity really as we would have gone back there, but am not willing to give them any more money now really.

Response from Ambelia V, Front Office Manager at Ambelia Village
Responded 21 Aug 2016
In positive response to our dear guests we wish to clarify that all comments, complaints and suggestions are welcomed at Ambelia. We see this as an opportunity to better ourselves, our excellence and customer relations. We pride ourselves with our attention to detail and guest satisfaction. We met our honourable guests with a private taxi driver of Ambelia Village at the airport. On arrival at Ambelia, our manager on duty, equipped with 3 different languages, greeted the guests and after settling in they were again approached by our assistant manager. We wish to thank our guests for pointing out the sunshades. Our staff asked on several occasions if everything was ok in the villa and nothing was reported hence we were left unaware of any malfunctioning items. Had they reported it during their stay we would have sorted it out right away. Our guests were given one of our best villas, the kitchen equipped with: cooker, microwave and grill, kettle & toaster, washing machine, tumble dryer, dishwasher. In addition there were fly screens on all windows, a television and an extra air-con unit in the sitting room. We confirmed months ago in good faith agreeing the rate without holding any deposit. Our guests were strictly recommended by another family hence we did not demand any deposit. Sadly our guests waited until the last days to settle the costs taking advantage of our staff’s good nature and flexible approach and good intention of our management. The payment methods were clarified the first week. In fairness, they were informed of more than one bank in Kyrenia and aware of charges for any withdrawals which we have no control over. We are sorry that this affected their holiday as we all tried our very best to accommodate this family’s needs with an extra baby cot and beach towels. We are sorry to hear that the payment policy of our company made our guests claim that it “faded” their nice holiday and made them unnecessarily reflect their feelings on Trip Advisor.

I have reviewed Ambelia Village some years ago. It is the best place to stay in Bellapais. If you do not need a karaoke / quiz night, all inclusive catering, drunken fellow guests etc etc of course.

Ambelia village is a window into how Cyprus was before commercialization, casino-hotels, cookie-cutter holiday villages and mass tourism.

Enjoy it while it is still there for you. It is perfect for family vacations, exploring the island on your own, walking in the mountains.

I have stayed there many times and will certainly return.

I am biased, we have visited a number of times, but I am also quite discerning and would not revisit a place which was in any way unsatisfactory.
Both Agnes and Caner are on site to ensure a good stay in this secluded hill side holiday village on the outskirts of the beautiful Bellapais. A car is essential though the village itself is just a 10 minute walk away. This place is certainly worth investigating if peace and quiet, good food, georgeous mountain walks, good beaches within a 15 muinute drive are what you need for a good and different holiday

We have stayed many times and love this picturesque hideaway in the mountains directly above the beautiful cypriot village of Bellapais with its abbey.
Lovely villas and a gorgeous pool setting, bar and restaurant, peaceful but allowing children this place has it all.
You can walk down to the village in the evenings for piano recitals and dining in the lovely traditional Cypriot restaurants. Caner and Agnes have run this place for many years and are always on hand to assist with anything.
The accommodation prices are good too!
