The location of this hotel is excellent! It is located in a small, quiet street, 50 meters from the entrance to Hallstatt.

It has its own parking space in front of the hotel, the service is very friendly and helpful, the breakfast is delicious and complete.

The rooms are comfortable and clean.

We stayed at the hotel for a weekend trip and was welcomed by helpful and friendly staff. The hotel was clean, warm and located in the centre of Hallstaat situated right by the lake. Good transport links, beautiful town and amazing views.
The hotel serves a continental breakfast which I think would benefit from a bit more service and some warm food options- perhaps cooked meats or eggs, the rooms are adequate for a short stay and comfy.

Everything was absolutely perfect! The accomodation is very clean and in a great location. Close to the shop, the bus stop and the town centre itself. The lake is a minute walk away. All the staff were nice and helpful. It is possible to buy breakfast for 12€ per person - which is buffet style and everything is fresh and absolutely delicious. Definitely recommending! :)

I initially had no plans to spend a night in Hallstatt, but our plans changed while we were in Europe. So we had to book this place since it was the only reasonably priced lodging available 2 days before arriving in Hallstatt. I read the reviews and thought it would be ok since our expectation was already so low and we just needed a place to sleep and wash up. For that purpose, yes it served the purpose. I would have given it even 4 stars. However, when we were checking out, we encountered the RUDEST staff ever. Possible the rudest hotel/motel staff I have ever encountered in my life... and I do travel pretty frequently. I approached the reception window saying "Good morning! We're checking out :)"... and what I got was "Just leave the key in the basket and go" with a very very condescending, annoyed tone. Then when I asked her about luggage storage, she started yelling. Yes, YELLING. *no exaggeration* She was yelling "In the restaurant on the side!!!". I was too shocked to even confront her about her rudeness. When I stood there in shock, she said "Are you deaf? INSIDE the restaurant!!!". I just couldn't believe what I was hearing/seeing. So I just told her "You know what? You have no right to talk to anyone like that. I'm going to store my luggage at the info center." Then she said "Ok, you pay there and it's free here *rolling eyes*". WOW. Just WOW. I couldn't believe this woman. I don't know if she's just a worker there or if she's the owner, but if you're ever reading this (woman in late 30s or early 40s), try to be at least not rude. I don't even expect nice becuase I really don't think you know how to be nice. But learn how to talk to people without getting angry for no reason. You live in a beautiful place. Just try to be at least 1/100th of how nice the scenery is in Hallstatt.
If you need cheaper last minute loding, yes, stay, but minimize contact with the reception.

We were two months away from our trip to Hallstatt and there were barely enough rooms available in the whole town. I found this to be incredible until we actually arrived at the town at which point I realised why this was the case, but I digress since this is a review about where we stayed. So the lack of options led us to pick the only remaining room at this hotel/b&b for the days we were visiting. It is about 1KM from where the ferry drops you off so if you have lots of luggage and arrive in the middle of summer, the trek to the hotel premises is not going to be fun. Nevertheless, because it is somewhat at one end of Hallstatt town meant we were slightly away from the thick of where the crowd gathers everyday. It is also conveniently located close to a supermarket and the bus stand and a short walk away from where the locals swim in the lake which became our daily hangout every evening. The double room we booked was tight for space and the toilet reeked of stale urine, which ended up permeating out to the rest of this small room. The stench persisted despite informing reception the following day and housekeeping attending to the cleaning. The bed wasnt very comfortable and bugs and mosquitoes had ready access to the room every evening. There is no air conditioning so you best hope you get a room with some breeze flowing through if you are staying here during Summer - we did not - we had the enviable view of the back yard where the hotel did its laundry which itself faced a grassy hill/cliff side.

On the day we arrived we were "greeted" (I use this word very loosely) by a young lady possible in her 20s or some such who made us feel like we were being an inconvenience / imposition (I will come to realise that this was the general attitude of many other residents we encountered during our brief stay in this town). The practical aspects of our check in were handled well enough but leaving alot of things out which required me to engage in a series of Q&As with her much to her growing annoyance; you know, the usual questions like what time is breakfast, how much is it, can I have a map of the town, what would you suggest we see, etc etc. Nothing too far fetched or fanciful but they certainly needed to be coaxed out of her. We decided to make the most of the afternoon we arrived and asked our grumpy little reception manager about the ice caves just outside of town. Following another series of Q&As we took the bus to the ice caves centre which costs 2 Euros per person each way even though the bus ride was less than 7 mins. At the ice caves tickets counter we were told we were too late for most of the tours and we supposed to bring warm clothing with us contrary to what our reception manager told us despite asking her directly if we needed to bring jackets. In short, it was a wasted trip, at least from the perspective of our time, while we sat around waiting 30 over minutes for the return bus to get to the ice caves ticket booth for our ride back into town. We would have explored something else if we were not provided with incorrect information about one of the few primary attractions this small town has to offer.

Over the 3 days we stayed at Hallstatt we came to realise that the gruff, arrogant and rude manner of the lady who attended to our reception on the first day was something we generally witnessed among the locals. We certainly fell in love with the precious and fantasy like ambience of this quaint Austrian town on the lake but for me the absence of warmth and welcome, and the presence of rudeness and arrogance among the people who live here undermined what would have been a very special trip and memory. I witnessed many examples of such rudeness several times a day directed at other visitors including myself and I wonder if the locals have become "fat" and complacent due to the vast volume of visitors and tourist revenue they generate every year. Suffice to say, I will not be staying at this hotel, if I can help it, and it will take some convincing to visit Hallstatt again given the general rude attitude of the residents of this town.

We have decided to visit Hallstatt. Unfortunately, the only available hotel was Bergfried. The only positive thing about the hotel was the friendliness of one of the hotel staff members (the young miss, apparently one of the owners), who helped us with the refund of the money for one night (because we wanted to leave earlier, because of bad weather). The hotel is located ca 100 m from the lake and "Fußgängerzone" ... Well, these are the only positive things about the hotel.
And now, the least pleasant facts: the room was large enough, albeit with a common balcony, the furniture very old, and the mattresses even older. This was not all: the breakfast (one should be extremely careful to call that "thing" a breakfast) took place in a room with medieval (looked at least so) furniture.
To conclude: no, never try it!!!

The location is near the main things to do in Hallstatt which is a very beautiful town. However the hotel was the worst I stayed at in my travel through Austria. The room was so hot. There was no fan in the room. I asked for a fan three times and was told one would be brought to my room. When I got back from dinner the reception was closed and there was no fan. The phones in the room don't work and the hotel has no wifi. I had no way to contact anyone to ask for a fan. It was an awful nights sleep. I really wanted to ask for a refund because the room was so uncomfortable. The bed was awful. It was a cheap mattress with cheap sheets. They have signs all over the hotel on all of the things you can't do. And things that you must do like leave by 10am. The receptionist is behind a closed glass that you have to tap on to get her to come to the window. I wondered why she was behind closed glass. Does she have better things to do than help guests? That was the impression I got from the hotel. The breakfast was below average. I was so frustrated when I couldn't reach anyone at night. Since I'm traveling from the US I didn't have a cell phone and they don't have wifi or any computers I couldn't call anyone. They close at 9pm. Thank goodness we arrived early in the day or we wouldn't have been able to check in. The hotel management really needs to rethink how they run this hotel so that they cater to the clients and not just have a list of all of the things that hotel guests shouldn't do. Hallstatt is a lovely town and it is hard to get a room so I guess that is what this hotel is banking on.

Stayed in their single room for 2 nights while in Hallstatt. I like the cosiness of the room and had a good view of the mountains. The hotel is clean, as well as very quiet, so you surely can get an uninterrupted sleep.
I also like the location as it is just few meters away from the "bus stop".
For the staffs, they are nice and helpful, two thumbs up for you guys!

I highly recommend this place.

Cheers,
Elaine

The two receptionists I encountered were both very impolite, they didnt even want to serve you. First one left the office at 6.20 pm leaving a note to unserved guests that the office hours is passed (which is 7pm) and the key was left in basket. Second receptionist closed the window at 9.30 am asking the guest to just leave the keys outside, when I knocked at the window saying the coffee machine was out of order she gave me this annoyed face like I had disturbed her. They checked on your ticket (which is not incl in the room price) to breakfast and have room numbers at the table, asked an american lady why she split from her family to have breakfast like they expect all the guests cheat them by getting free breakfast!
The place has good location and nice room decoration, if u forget toothbrush shower gel shampoo i am sorry they will charge you. If u want a kettle 3 euro plz. Late check out sorry, this is the earliest check out hostel i ever stayed at. Your luaggage will def be left unattended in the hotel lobby. Good luck if you only care about the price

Hi. Thank your for your question. The average temperature for June is 20+c, that is what I found on the internet. It might pay you to check nearer the time for a more accurate forecast. With regards to restaurants, I visited during the last full week of February. There are some Cafe's/Restaurants, and a couple of fast food outlets. I must stress these are not McDonalds, Burger King's of KFC's. One of the fast food places does Hot Dogs and Schnitzels. This is very near to the Ferry terminal close to the town square. Another outlet does Pizza's. This is a 5 minute walk on the way to the Gasthof Bergfried (the hotel in which I stayed). Most of the Hotels are open for Lunch and Dinner. There were a few places closed, I guess for the Winter, but in June you should have more of a choice. Hope this is helpful?

Can I travel to Salzburg from this hotel without a car
Answer from _ajnoble1964
Sutton, United Kingdom48 contributions29 helpful votes
I took the train from Salzburg Station to Attnang-Pucheim, and then a train to Hallstatt. I had a reserved seats in 2nd class for Salzburg to Attnang-Pucheim Return. About €3.00 ew. The overall train fare excluding the reservations came to €56.40? On arrival at Hallstatt, there is a ferry which takes about 7 mins. If my memory is correct the fare is €2.50 each way. Great way to visit Hallstatt.

The room is fairly small even for us Asians. I am only about 5"2" and it feels small to me. It is not the height of the ceiling but the floor space. You need to open the suitcases and then there is little left. In fact I had to tuck one suitcase under a folding table provided. We could walk around but it is limited. I have seen smaller though so if you don't mind the squeeze it is doable. Our bathroom is ok size. We did not find it a problem maybe because we didn't open our suitcases in there.
