We booked for a half day of sea kayaking and were greeted by Ryan, our instructor for the day. He took us through all the relevant safety precautions and then we set out on our way. The trip was brilliant and we even had time to learn some more technical areas as well as find out about the local nature...

This hostel is conveniently located less than a mile from the ferry terminal from Uig. It is also pretty comfy and has a nice common-room. The only problem is that it wasn't staffed at all during my two day visit. If a guy hadn't come by to do the garbage, I wouldn't have ever seen anyone that works there. This...

This is a good-quality standard hostel setup: clean beds in bunk rooms, ample space in the living room, no less than 3(!) cookers in the spaceous kitchen, a welcoming friendly warden. it was an ideal base for our group of SCUBA divers: a sheltered bay, pontoon facilities, great dive sites nearby. Just make sure the local compressor works, otherwise bring...

We didn't stay here but did a couple of hours of sea kayaking with our 11 year old son. They were really helpful and friendly (we only booked the day before and had limited time due to having to catch a ferry so they accommodated our requirements really well). This was our first time sea kayaking, and we were well...

Not sure why another reviewer is delighting in the new mattresses - they must have got lucky as the ones in our room were ancient. They weren't as uncomfortable as they looked though and the bedding was clean. The rooms are pretty cramped, especially if you don't know the other occupants and/or are uncomfortable with mixed-sex rooms. Kitchen seemed OK,...

Its been around 18 months since my last visit and boy has the placed improved. New carpets throughout, new matresses(at last) and a new kitchen as well. Of course someone has to pay for all of these changes and guess who that is. It is now £16 a night or £20 if you use their bedding. Oh and there is...

Didn't stay here but two of us did a day of guided sea kayaking. You can put in straight from the centre and spend hours exploring the lochs and islands. Our guide was a temporary seasonal member of staff who was a very friendly and an experienced kayaker but didn't really know anything about the area. However we had booked...

21 cyclists arrived very tired and very wet having left Barra at 0700 and cycled all day into a gale force NW!! Astrid had baked a cake for us and took everything in her stride and the washing machine and drying room got full use. Good basic hostel accommodation, which is all we wanted. Lovely setting with otters at the...

Didn't Stay - but made use of the Outdoor centre for various activities including Sea Kyaking around Lochmaddy, Coasteering and for a trip to St Kilda. The Sea Kyaking and Coasteering were really good fun and was suited to our level, a really enjoyable day and would recommend the sea kyaking as a great way to see more of the...
