They didn't allow for much time to explore but we were just happy to be able to see the location where some of the Sound of Music was filmed. It was such a gorgeous day and the weather was just right for walking around.

Is this villa Von trap?
The hotel is where they filmed the boating part of the film and also they filmed the " i am sixteen" song but the glass house is not moved to the park up the road. One of the rooms in the breakfast building was replicated on a bigger scale in America as part of the ball room party.

Is this villa Von trap?
No, it’s just in the movie of sound of music, not in the real life.

There are numerous trails on both Austria side and German side of the border. I would check with the hotel and as well there is an excellent tourist office near the main square in Salzburg

As I recall, it’s about a mile walk from hotel to town. There are a couple of ways to walk. One involves some hills, the other flatter but along streets. I’m a little fuzzy on the walking details. There is a bus stop right near the hotel which we used a couple of times. We also used Uber which worked very well and was economical. We absolutely loved staying at this hotel and woul highly recommend it although we were there in August so different weather than December. If you are a Sound of Music fan you will love it!
