We did not stay in the main hotel but in an apartment in a building just down the street. An immediate advantage is that you get none of the hotel or restaurant noise from this location. But it's a short walk to reception if you have questions or need something. This hotel is in a quiet residential neighborhood. You can't...

Spotlessly clean, no nonsense, farm fresh breakfast, warm and cosy, caring and kind and discrete staff. We couldn't have asked for more during our weekend trip to visit our family in Vienna. The centre is just a brief bus ride away. Great restaurants all around. Much nicer than staying in large impersonal, claustraphobic hotel chains. I can't wait to stay...

This is a bit picturesque family hotel in an authentic and quiet residential area of Vienna. We arrived a bit late in the evening, but was kindly received and told that our room was not in the main building, but it was an apartment five minutes walk further down the road. The apartment was very spacious. There were an entrance...

First a warning to 'Groupon' users - Beware that you are obliged to buy dinner and breakfast here at a rate of 30 and 10 Euros per person whether you eat it or not. Location - Waaaay out there in the sticks. A good 20-minute train ride and another 20 minutes walk from the centre of Vienna. Situated in a...

We happened on this hotel by serendipity. Unable to stay at the Hotel Cortina down the road we were able to stay the night here. What a find! Reasonable rates and we had more than a room - it was an apartment with plenty of room and a big bathroom (heated floor) bath and separate shower . Two pillows each...

Staying in Hietzing

Neighbourhood Profile
Vienna’s 13th district has always been in the shadow of Schönbrunn Palace and its gardens, but has interesting hidden gems waiting to be discovered. Allow half a day for the imposing Habsburg residence and the gardens with Gloriette belvedere. Reserve the other half to discover the secret charms of this posh residential neighbourhood. Sneak out of the gardens at Hietzinger Tor (Hietzing Gate) and head down Hietzinger Hauptstrasse for Kaiserpavillon (Emperor’s pavilion), an Art Nouveau gem right on top of U4’s metro railtracks. At local institutions Café Dommayer and restaurant Plachutta you can mingle with residents, their families and friends. Dommayer has risen to fame since waltz king Johann Strauss and his orchestra performed there regularly. If you want to go beyond private villa gazing visit Klimtvilla and Hermesvilla. Art Nouveau genius Gustav Klimt had his last studio in a now beautifully renovated villa, which is open during spring and summer. Hermesvilla at Lainzer Tiergarten animal enclosure and nature park is a must for all romantics and fans of Empress Sissi.
