A charming and quirky boutique hotel close to the train station and right by a tram stop. The owners and staff are welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. Excellent varied breakfast with many choices. Stayed for 3 nights in November. A special mention to Herr Pilner on reception for answering all our questions about how to get to certain... More

It's certainly not a posh hotel but for the price it was very good. I stayed in a room which was not renovated which was bigger than the room that my son stayed in, which had been renovated, very warm, comfortable and clean. We had the breakfast on both mornings, the buffet had a wide variety of food, everything you... More

The hotel was lovely. In a good position, only a ten minute tram ride to the centre, and the tram stop was close to the hotel. The hotel had some lovely little touches, like the walz music we could hear from outside upon our arrival, and the little strauss rubber duck in our shower. It was also as surprise to... More

I decided to visit Vienna as a last minute trip as I had free time from work . I decided to book here as it had many good reviews. I stayed in room 216 for 4 nights and I really enjoyed my stay. The staff all were warm and friendly especially the breakfast time manager who takes the time to... More

What the Dounwalzer lacks compared to your posh 4 or 5 star hotels, it certainly makes up for the care it takes with its clientele. The rooms are cosy and the wet room certainly gives you that get up and go feeling. Breakfast could not be better every sweet tooth or savoury taste is catered for. Then it's a short... More

We were in an un-renovated room (warning...only some of the rooms look like the renovated ones in the photos). The room didn't feel clean, it was dark and stale... Also we were given 2 single beds despite booking for a double bed. We booked this hotel specifically as it states it has parking available- this is NOT the case! there... More

Dear Bel199012, Thank you for your review. I am sorry to read, that apparently we could not make it clear enough, that we have rented several parking lots, garages and spaces all around the hotel, as our 1856 built Boutique hotel does not have a garage in the house itself (in the cellar, where some buildings have garages, we have... Excellent breakfast buffet. Beautiful, good size, quiet (we were garden side) rooms with clean bathroom and good shower. Easy access to the underground which gets you to Vienna’s city center and main attractions in around 20’. Very friendly and helpful staff in this clearly family run and cared-for hotel. Some rooms only have a sliding, semitransparent door between the room... More

Stayed for two nights in a twin room, the hotel itself is very nice and really looks the part, staff are very friendly too. Located right beside the tram line, which leaves you right beside the underground (about 6 stops) it's a decent location, all at a good price. Spacious room and nice bathroom too. Can't have any complaints.

Location, good, but you had to get tram or underground. Service, friendly and helpful staff. Breakfast not included and expensive. Extras is room, water biscuits etc also expensive. On main road, so window closed at night, room rather warm, and you could hear through the walls. Pleasant, quirky hotel.

Staying in Ottakring

Neighbourhood Profile
The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our family run establishment is only 5 minutes away from the Ringstrasse and lies directly on the metro line U6. The hotel is famous first of all for its excellent service and very rich hot and cold breakfast. The General Hospital and numerous private hospitals, the Viennese Brunnen and Yppen street markets, the Freud museum, Volksoper, Votivchurch, City hall or Palace Gschwandner are also in the walking distance. Because of a good location near the metro line U6 all the places of interest - from Grinzing to Schonbrunn - are easy to reach. The rooms are equipped with minibar, hair dryer, writing case, alarm clock, WiFi, sat-TV, radio, soundproof windows, phone... Classical live music on Sunday breakfast, leafy courtyard, 24 hours open bar with Viennese wines, private SPA or a Nespresso machine in your room are only few of the many extra services we offer, which explain our slogan "3 stars hotel with 4 stars service and 5 stars charm". Our hotel was built in 1901 as a wedding gift and offers for more than 111 years lived hospitality and Viennese tradition, also marked in the successful architectural symbiosis of Art Nouveau with modern elements. ... more   less
