We arrived to Vienna in a very hot day. The rooms were old and very very small. Our room was not dirty, but the window was closed and the room very very, very hot, much worse than outside (and was 36ºC outside). We asked for a new one and they showed us another one (almost the same) and a fan,...

It's a strange mix between student accommodation and super budget hotel. The rooms are very small but have a private bathroom. My room had a balcony which allowed for the doors to be opened in the evening letting in a lovely breeze, otherwise it would have been an absolute oven. The decor is very 1973 in the rooms - think...

Basic hotel in a very good location, not far from City Hall, the Ring and the MuseumsQuartier. The price of accommodation is okay (for Vienna). Room was very basic, old and quite small. Very small bathroom. Please note that this is not a typical hotel, but a student dormitory used as a hotel during the summer, so the standard is...

I and my girl friend stopped in this hotel for one night. The hotel has very good location. It is possible to reach the Ring in 5-10 minutes by a tram, then it is possible to go to the city center on foot 10-15 minutes or on public transport. From hotel it is possible to reach a stop of a...

Our expectations weren't that high given the price and the fact that the hotel is student accommodation during the school year. The room is small, but big enough for two people who only slept at the hotel. Beds were comfortable but could have done with some spare pillows. The bathroom was also on the small side. The corridors were VERY...

I was told that this hotel is student accommodation used as a hotel during the holidays, so I went with that sort of expectation. I had booked a triple and a double room, but then I emailed them to ask for two single beds in the double room (I booked through travel republic and a double was a fair bit...

I stayed in the Hotel Academia for 5 nights. I was extremely disappointed to see how small a 2 single bedroom was, as my friend and I were very cramped in the room. I walked into my room and there were insects on the wall, however the beds and bathroom seemed very clean besides this one incident. The breakfasts, I...

We ovecame our fear of the reviews and stayed for 10 nights. We payed £440 including flights from the UK for a hotel that is 4 tram stops from the centre. The room service was every 3 days, but no problem getting towels though you will need shower gel. At reception seek out Stephanie - really helpful. Breakfast is basic...

My wife and I spent a week in this hotel starting on Aug 27 2011. It is well located; close to the tram that takes you into the old town in a few minutes. It is a large hotel with many floors and has several elevators which is wonderful. The front desk persons were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Internet access...

Was in Vienna for a conference, stayed for a week. The hotel is 5-10 minutes walk from Volkstheater and Rathaus U-Bahn stations, easily found. Service was very prompt and good. Rooms were clean and basic, with a hot shower. Breakfast was perfectly adequate - cereal, bread, ham & cheese, yoghurt, spreads, hot and cold drinks, (though no real juice, which...

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighbourhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theatre, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighbourhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicentre. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighbourhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
